I like MJs falsetto. It's not that wide in range as in relation to his Chest voice but it's very expressive and there's a lot of pain in it. Most people only have "don't stop til u get enough" as a frame of reference, but his falsetto is very underrated. He could do some amazing vocal runs w it.
2741789, Philip Bailey Gets My Vote

One song comes to mind "Reasons" not too many male singers could or can hit those notes like Philip could.

2741809, Curtis Mayfield.

2741812, A Tie Between Enchantment's EJ & Cameo's Wayne Cooper,,,

When I heard both gentlemen, I was deceived into thinking they were women.

Cameo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Ex-zGqYM9Ss#t=84s

I would've said Jimmy Scott is the GREATEST falsetto singer ever, except thats his natural voice.
2741829, LMAO. Might as well say Curtis Hairston as well

but then again, I don't think that's really a falsetto, both he and EJ's voice are "normal" singing that way.

Wayne on the other hand did go above his normal singing voice often.
2741848, This is like choosing between flavors of ice cream.
Posted by Buck, Wed Sep-19-12 09:52 AM
No clear winner, cause they're all good.
2741864, is El Debarge's voice considered falsetto?
Posted by Selah, Wed Sep-19-12 11:09 AM
if not Philip Bailey (esp on Reasons) and Eddie Kendricks (Get Ready and Just My Imagination) would be my top two
2741960, Nah that's just light skinned guy voice

ha
2741894, I know this is your opinion and all
Posted by Ashley Ayers, Wed Sep-19-12 12:10 PM
But putting Bilal over Prince is just some level of silly that I can't understand.

Not only is Bilal a cheap Prince knockoff, Prince's falsetto is better, more polished and goes way higher.

The only two real answers on this poll are Phillip and Prince.
2741908, they also said switch like it was a person
Posted by Selah, Wed Sep-19-12 12:41 PM
that should held quantify the opinion
2741923, Lol, that too.

2742003, What are you talking about?
Posted by rtoriq, Wed Sep-19-12 05:48 PM
Bilal being the first CHOICE on the poll?

2742015, Substitute D'Angelo for Bilal in my original reply.
Posted by Ashley Ayers, Wed Sep-19-12 06:10 PM
It still stands. You rated him number two above Prince and can't decide between Bilal and Prince for 3? Lmao.
Like I said, I know it's just your opinion, but that shit is the epitome of 'cray'.

2741896, How Could We All Forget About Sylvester?
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Wed Sep-19-12 12:15 PM
When it comes to best falsettos from a male he definitely deserves it even though many would categorize him in the female side or non-r&b but you got to give where credit is due.

If it wasn't for Sylvester it wouldn't be any great male house vocalists such as Byron Stingily, Kenny Bobien, & Roland Clark.

2741900, 1. P. Bailey; 2. Prince; 3. Eddie Kendricks

2741910, Where Is Smokey?
Posted by Dariusx, Wed Sep-19-12 12:46 PM
You just mentioned the new cats I am not feeling Benet Prince and Bilal for that Anthony Hamilton can get up there too The 70's vocal groups put that on lock even the mediocre ones

Smokey Robinson The Godfather
Williams Hart (Delfonics)
Russell Thompkins Jr (Stylistics)
Eddie Kendricks
Leroy Burgess (Black Ivory)

2741912, for me, I'm going to kick it old school

Not even. The Male Falsetto is an artform...

2742119, In fact, was wondering of the origins of the Male Falsetto
Posted by rtoriq, Thu Sep-20-12 12:19 AM
...and tried to start a convo about where it came from on my facebook last year but got little responses and none answering the question. My guess is from Africa since there is ample examples of djelis and local singers where men sing in higher octaves. But there's gotta be more to that story.

(And what happened to the baritone love?
And why no love for the Female Contralto? Like Lalah Hathaway!)
