Kanye West Signs Q-Tip to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam

Def Jam has announced the signing of Q-Tip to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam records. In a press release sent out this morning, Def Jam CEO Barry Weiss announced the new partnership and plans for the veteran MC's fourth solo album The Last Zulu to be released in early 2013

“I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” said Q-Tip. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I'm excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”

“I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again,” said Mr. Weiss, who helmed the artist’s releases on Jive Records in the 1990s as a member of A Tribe Called Quest. “He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists. His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz. We welcome Q-Tip to the G.O.O.D. Music / Island Def Jam family.”

Mos Def is with GOOD music as well right?

If Mos shows up for more than a verse or hook on the G.O.O.D. LP I will be SHOCKED...I expect it to be the Pusha/Sean/Cy Hi show.

I thought the same thing. I remember when The Love Movement was dropping Q-Tip was all "FUCK JIVE!" Being that Barry was the CEO I would think there would be some issues there. Eh.

....im glad for Tip, but damn ...recording under ATCQ would make for a lot more "buzz"

do the roots really produce for outside artists like that? the only shit i can think of is the stuff on Com's One Day It'll All Make Sense.

It's called Open. It was later renamed Live at the Rennaissance before being shelved. It's a great album. A couple of songs (3-4 I think) were used on The Rennaissance, but had been changed a lot. You can find it everwhere. I even got a pretty nice vinyl bootleg of it.

Has done a few songs here and there but I guess been mostly creating new music or acting (I think he's on Dexter)

to start launching everyone. i mean they gotta build up a stable, especially now that everyone from the early days is gone except Legend

I know the Tribe era is gone so I am not expecting anything to resemble it, but I do know he has a good ear. Put that together with other producers Kanye can get, it seems like a winning team.

Shout out to Tip, but I don't get why he's being signed.. lets be honest, he's a has been who is way passed his prime..

The Renaissance was a great album.

It's been a lot of artists that have signed with Kanye's label and just sat on there and then leave or still hasn't done anything but since Q-Tip is already well known maybe just maybe he will get something new released within the next 12 months.
