2683294, I don't get it. What was OutKast's "Rosa Parks" song about?
Posted by BlackNAlwaysProud, Sun Apr-08-12 02:32 AM
From what I recall, the only time they address Rosa Parks is in the chorus but in the song itself, I don't remember them talking about Rosa Parks at all.

So what was the point of the song? Honestly, I don't get it.
2683306, putting everyone on notice that the south was no longer 'back of the bus'
Posted by Nodima, Sun Apr-08-12 02:56 AM
and that OutKast were leading the charge out of the back into the driver's seat, pushing everyone else into the back of the bus as a result.

the song probably has the title it does because Andre is crazy and Antwan has a good sense of humor.

granted, the verses are pretty much blabbering nonsense but great blabbering nonsense.

2683336, I think Big Boi's was a little more nonsensical
Posted by beatnik, Sun Apr-08-12 10:19 AM
he was bragging, but even though thats one verse I know by heart going through it in my head i'm wondering what the hell he's talking about lol

Dre at least told a little story with a point to it.

I mean on the idea of the South coming to the forefront, big boi's verse makes perfect sense.
2683464, How was Dre nonsensical?
Posted by lc ceo, Sun Apr-08-12 10:15 PM
That shit was full of perspective.
2683497, one of his most recgonized verses at that

2683501, in relation to the point of the chorus/song
Posted by Nodima, Mon Apr-09-12 12:49 AM
the verse itself is definitely coherent.

most of my late night posts are post-drinking, I'm not trying to be very smart.

2683513, I think in the context that's been explained already

About the south moving to the forefront, it makes perfect sense.

Oh ok, thanks!
2683340, I get it now, you're a troll

i'm leaning toward AP.
2683491, Dre wasn't feelin Beats Rhymes & Life so he wrote a verse about it.
Posted by bski, Sun Apr-08-12 11:45 PM
Chorus is just some braggadocio.

2683511, I still need to see the quote where he says, specifically,
Posted by ZooTown74, Mon Apr-09-12 01:38 AM
that that verse was inspired by BRL

Not "alluded to"

Not "he basically said that"

Not "Quest asked him at a party and he told him"

But an exact quote

2683525, Yea - elaborate on this?
Posted by Brew, Mon Apr-09-12 07:45 AM
I never heard this story? I mean I assume it's the "my favorite group ain't comin wit it..." line but I never heard Dre explain it.
2683554, he has been quoted saying qtip is his fav mc
Posted by AlBundy, Mon Apr-09-12 09:44 AM
further than that is speculation.. which i personally tend to believe
2683734, Oh. Yean, I don't have one.
Posted by bski, Mon Apr-09-12 03:55 PM
But when I first heard that verse, BR&L was the first thing that came to mind.

I heard the speculation after and it just made sense to me. I tend to believe it.

It's just that it was mentioned previously that there's some kind of magazine interview where he said it and I wondered if anyone had access to it

For real? I never heard of that. Can't imagine Dre would shit on Tip in print though.

2683527, It was about nodding your head and rapping along with 2 dope verses
Posted by kevb, Mon Apr-09-12 08:15 AM
And smiling while your daughter recites the chorus. Then, it comes full circle when your 4 year old asks, "daddy, who is Rosa Parks?". Ah, them boys did say that this was going to happen. But yeah, most of their songs didn't have any real true meaning. It was mainly two extremely dope verses and some catchy ass hooks. Dre's were always more thoughtful and Big was just sharpening his vocal swords.

damn near every verse from Big Boi had him cooler than a polar bears toe nails and getting dome from a female.

2683846, Honestly....

I always thought they were on their Wu shit
just naming tracks the first thing that comes to their minds then spittin' verse to see what sticks

LOL @ people that try to find some deep hidden meaning into it

"thought" being the key word in that statement.

What's so funny about it?

Niggas just weeded out spittin' ill 16s

Dre may have just been reading an old Jet magazine with a article on Rosa Parks
2683979, Right. I agree, but...
Posted by Brew, Tue Apr-10-12 08:20 AM
I don't see why it's so weird for someone to think that maybe, just maybe, there is a deeper meaning behind a song title or verse...cause a lot of times, that IS the case.
