Like I said, ICP ate well and their music was
dreadful...it was all imagery and iconography
Nobody listened to the music

OF had the imagery/iconography game on lock so hard
they could release a silent album and kids would buy
it

They Earned it

but that's what's up. they still winning. i'm not as big a fan as atruhead but i share his smugness towards all who said they would disappear just for the sake of hating lol

All I can think is they had two things some of the saltier older OKP's don't have; youth and talent.

at least it seems so. Its pretty brash and obnoxious at times, the sense of humor might get lost on some over 30+ish.

Also a lot of people don't like Tyler's production, and or fine him to be really annoying just a a person. I disagree with both though.

And their new success is much deserved because Tyler
learned their lesson: just shuttup and make beats and
let people rap to them.

The problem was all of the fuss; Tyler's obsession with
alienating his fans, who they are being compared to,
pop culture, etc...the pressure was too much and their
post Yonkers-2011 projects were all awful.

2012 approaches and things change-

Hodgy has that mixtapes (featuring all non OF-beats,
easily the best beats he's ever rapped over)

The Mixtape Volume 2 comes out, featuring some organic
OF sounding music, no responding to anyone, little bit
of whining, little fussing

The results? A solid effort (not in the 'Bastard' or
'Earl' class, but solid) that people purchase and enjoy

have my copy but still haven't given it the full ear...probably will get some burn during this road trip.

They are a young people counter culture music, and
kids are going to buy it independent of the way it
sounds at this stage

That's a given

As much as they don't like the ICP comparisons, ICP
ate REAL well off of horrible music and good imagery

Its true

I think this mixtape is the beginning of a return to
glory, though

For one:

Tyler got some sense knocked into him...stopped trying
to openly alienate everyone and made an album with simple
beats and niggas rapping and being funny over it

Most of the beats are still horrible but there are some
solid songs on there

And the return of Earl gave this album a HUGE bump too

Like I said: they needed a strong MUSICAL comeback
because all of their post Yonkers-2011 work was horrific

Goblin was dreadful...Tyler doesn't even big it up anymore
and has basically conceded that it was a fuckup....it sold
very well, though...again, because most of their fans just
like to play 'Radical' while skateboarding and hanging out
...most aren't even fans of music.

The Mellowhype songs in 2011 were dreadful

2012 approached and niggas got back on their grind

I guess Hodgy got tired of rhyming on awful beats and
put out that mixtape with some actual good producers...
..he's still the weak link on the mix tape but its still
sounds good

And this OF Mixtape 2...the energy is there...again, some
of the beats are still horrible but its a step in the right
direction

They *definitely* improved lyrically

Tyler can rap, still is way too self aware and a whiner
though

Domo has evolved into a well rounded pussy and weed rapper

Mike G has outstanding flow, still doesn't know how to finish
a verse nearly as well as he begins in (he's not a polished
rapper...needs to do like Hodgy and get on the mixtape grind.
...this is how Weezy improved between 2001 and 2004)

Hodgy is still mostly average but is improving

And Earl is a prodigy

Things look up for them

for some reason being that I am in my upper 20's I feel there music is not made for me. When someone tries to put me on OF, it is like putting me onto Beiber, Myly Cyrus, Disney "aged" music when it comes to the demographic. I am glad there is rap music for the youth but man I don't think I can get down with them unless I have my younger teen cousins wit me.
