2680335, Donald Fagen - Nightfly appreciation post

I've been obsessing over this album lately off the strength of that Gaucho post a few weeks ago. This album sounds like it was toiled over for years before it was released. It literally sounds "perfect". Even more so than Aja, if that's even possible.

The title track is just so in the pocket. I love this jawn..
2680336, one of my favorites

I remember I used to rock this record damn near religiously in the late '90s...

Nightfly is still Fagen's best release and pointed out it is the proper follow up to Aja. Gaucho is not my favorite.

I love the chord progression on New Frontier. Here is the video. It is on my all time favorite videos. I love when they showed Brubeck Time Out cover

I liked the second half of his next release Kamakiriad

On The Dunes has the epic Aja feel to it and has a nice long coda

Tomorrows Girls is a nice video and song

I couldn't find Teahouse On The Tracks which is also great

His next cd Morph The Cat is not too good. He seems stuck in a rut, stuck in a rut stuck in a rut (excuse the Monty Python sketch LOL) Only song that is good is the title song and it makes up for the rest of the cd being so so

on New Frontier is one of the things that made me want to learn how to play music.

I just remember hearing that as a kid and thinking that there was just SOMEthing to that song (and the album) that was just "right".
2681480, every year Doc and I talk about this album on here

love this album and the energy on it.

it was a carry over and yet it felt so fresh.

Greg Philiganis is on this record as is valerie Simpson and you feel the harmony and grooves.

this is my favorite solo album by Fagen easily.

the other two are hit and miss, but this one was fresh.

came out 30 years back and it still hits the spot.

love the concept, tone and feel. great thread
2681486, my shit..btw there'll be spandex jackets, one for everyone
