Probably going to deserve a late pass here. Is this a shot at Jay?
Stakes is high came out around the same time as Readinable Doubt I believe so it would have been early into Jays career so I don't know. Did Jay bite Pos or am I reaching here?

Here is the whole line:

Plug Wonder why back in the day who soaked his words in jigga
So when I ran a phrase in June you didn't catch it til December

Hot line but I never knew he sad Jigga... I could never understand what that word was...

I don't think Jay went by Jigga when this dropped. I think he is talking about Jigga Juice... liq's with cocaine.

I was born in the Boogie Down catscan
where my building fell down on the rats and
people sorta super wanna trip to the penile (penile)
While I settle off the shores of the Long Isle
My father's clean not mean my mind is clear when I transmit
I am the man ner of the family cuz the pants fit
I want to let forensics prove, that I can mends
Groove wit the thread from needle outta hay, wanna say

I can understand only about one complete line from the above.

2678978, let me take a stab at it.....

>I was born in the Boogie Down catscan

I think he is referring to the tight space generally thought of when you think of Bronx housing in the 60's and 70's. The catscan referencing over-crowding, tight living qtrs, etc.

>where my building fell down on the rats and

I am assuming his childhood building may have been condemned/demolished? Just a guess here.....

>people sorta super wanna trip to the penile (penile)
>While I settle off the shores of the Long Isle

I think this is a reference to escaping the harsh life of the Bronx, and to a more suburban Long Island...sort of a "they got caught up and I made it out" kind of statement.

>My father's clean not mean my mind is clear when I transmit
>I am the man ner of the family cuz the pants fit

I think this is another direct reference to his often declared non-use of weed and other substances. Not sure if your quote is exactly verbatim, but even still, i think its a loose way of saying "I don't smoke cuz I am responsibly heading a family."

>I want to let forensics prove, that I can mends
>Groove wit the thread from needle outta hay, wanna say

Hahaha...this line is so dope. Just a clever battle line saying "let it be known i can flow in a variety of situations and pull a style out my ass that still crushes...." lol...i love this line

of course, i am probably half wrong....but seeing it written out, thats what I can gather....
2679011, yeah, With De La I always get the gist but never the exact meaning

yeah is cryptic but I think this:

>I was born in the Boogie Down catscan
>where my building fell down on the rats and
>people sorta super wanna trip to the PENAL

cats live like they want to go to jail or that life is inevitable

>While I settle off the shores of the Long Isle
>My father's clean not mean my mind is clear when I transmit
>I am the man ner of the family cuz the pants fit

I moved my family out to LI where I'm the man of the house / wear the pants

>I want to let forensics prove, that I can mends
>Groove wit the thread from needle outta hay, wanna say
>

let forensics (ie the evidence) show that I can use make these grooves tight with obscure/challenging (needle in a haystack) rhymes, referencing his unique style, ala this verse.

Damn, I even googled this line before Posting to be sure and every website said Jigga. I listened back and it def. sounds like ginger.

If it did say Jigga and the line was released like 6 years later that shit would be dope though.

Dope line regardless.

We need a new De La album ASAP.
