2678512, The Scottie Pippens of Hip Hop: You can still WIN.
Posted by Thanes1975, Tue Mar-27-12 02:54 PM
I know everybody want to be Jordan (Jay-Z, Biggie Rakim etc..) but the Scottie Pippens of rap have stayed on their lane, kept their mouth shut, and ate well over the years. Who are the SP of Hip Hop? Who are the ones you like and respect?

Here are a few that come to mind:

1. Memphis Bleek: rode Jigga to championships, got 2 Gold records, ate well off tours, killed intro to Vol.2...living a good life
2. LLoyd Banks: Didnt fall victim like Young Buck and Game (Game eats..I know)..Plat LP and eat well on tour and during G-Unit
3.Meek Millz: riding with Ross...eating good...not trying to be Jordan
5. Spliff Starr rode Busta 4 ever & ate on tour

...those are just some that come to mind

Go...

Well, hard work and taking advantage of opportunities can do that for a person....good for him...
2678535, dude was never Pippen... Jaz-O was just a high school coach

2678582, Revisionism
Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Mar-27-12 04:45 PM
Jay wasn't even close to being to the main feature of Jaz's records, as as the most he had to say was on "The Originators". He didn't even steal the show on "The Originators", or even tracks like "Can I Get Open" or "Show and Prove". It wasn't until he crashed and burned on the solo tip, dipped, regrouped, and then tried again with his mentor's assistance that he got over the hump.

Maybe "Pippen" wasn't the word, he was borderline BJ Armstrong before "In My Lifetime" (the song) and RD caught fire.

but lets be real, Jaz was a low class b grade artist at best...dude was never close to being a big time player
2678523, Do Redman and Busta Rhymes count as Pippens?

just thinking
2678526, RE: Do Redman and Busta Rhymes count as Pippens?
Posted by Thanes1975, Tue Mar-27-12 03:08 PM
Busta is not a Pippen. He was the leader of the Flip Mode

Redman.....not sure what he is. He was a Pippen during the height of EPMD though....
2678534, lol
Posted by Selah, Tue Mar-27-12 03:13 PM
>Busta is not a Pippen. He was the leader of the Flip Mode

re-read what you typed

"Leader of the Flip Mode" is NOT a resume builder mayne (that's like being lead triangle for the monkees or something)

>Redman.....not sure what he is. He was a Pippen during the
>height of EPMD though....

my point with both of them is they shine their best when they are working with others, and when they are solo it's not as great as their best pair-ups

think about it....
2678579, redman's best records are HIS SOLO's

2678531, Bleek ain't Pippen fam. He's Horace Grant at best.
Posted by CMcMurtry, Tue Mar-27-12 03:09 PM
Pippen was Sigel. And we saw how that ended.
2678533, RE: Bleek ain't Pippen fam. He's Horace Grant at best.

so much ability....just got some bad breaks <----intended pun
2686299, He did ONE song with Nas, he was never actually a 2nd fiddle.

2678644, those cats you named are Steve Kerr's at BEST, lol.
Posted by disco dj, Tue Mar-27-12 07:44 PM
Scottie was one of the NBA's top 50 of all time. Meaning, without Jordan he still has ( had) a pretty damned good career.

So we gotta find an MC who might be good enough to do his own thang without his mentor. How's about somebody like Ice Cube ( who left NWA)?

2678711, RE: those cats you named are Steve Kerr's at BEST, lol.
Posted by Thanes1975, Tue Mar-27-12 09:42 PM
its more like a figure of speech............."Side man who ate well b/c he played his part"
2678712, Pippen was great, but he didn't have no titles without MJ
Posted by CMcMurtry, Tue Mar-27-12 09:44 PM
Cube didn't just survive without N.W.A., he got bigger.

I think Sigel to Jay-Z is the best one that I can think of.
2679116, Jordan was great, but he didn't have no titles without Pippen.

2678733, Big Boi gotta be in this discussion
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Tue Mar-27-12 10:09 PM
he pretty much keeps the Outkast name and brand alive, we all know he ain't never gonna tower of 3 stacks, however tell me another cat who has stayed loyal and didn't pull a Kobe and throw his boy way under the bus?

being a scottie is a compliment when you understand all the big and little things he did and kept his cool and collected jewlery and almost went all the way his ownself.

2678743, Yup that may be the correct answer
Posted by CMcMurtry, Tue Mar-27-12 10:20 PM
2678795, a rare moment of clarity^
Posted by DolphinTeef, Wed Mar-28-12 12:20 AM
2678800, yeah, and his solo album reminds me of Blazers Pippen
Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Mar-28-12 12:33 AM
nicest Outkast-related anything in a LONG time. I liked it better than Idlewild and about 65% of a certain double album
2678805, But there's inevitably that last season with the Bulls
Posted by CMcMurtry, Wed Mar-28-12 12:49 AM
Let's hope Big Boi is a few albums away from that fall from grace.
2678850, RE: Big Boi gotta be in this discussion

I agree.
2678858, damn your right
Posted by Delajoo, Wed Mar-28-12 09:25 AM
thought about him for a moment but I guess I see him and andre as a LOT closer than most might (even though andre is regarded highly by me, i just think the two are relatively that much better than so many others)
2679164, Yeah Big Boi definitely is Scottie Pippen
Posted by Alphabet, Wed Mar-28-12 09:03 PM
All Star level player on his own, but it just so happen that he was on the same squad with a once in a generation great..
2686383, RE: Big Boi gotta be in this discussion

We have a winner. This on a large scale and Sadat on a small scale.
2678781, PRINCE PO

Posted by CMcMurtry, Tue Mar-27-12 11:33 PM
And Pharoahe Monch, God bless him, ain't MJ.
2678864, yup.. this might be the best one

2678894, you know,
Posted by mathmagic, Wed Mar-28-12 11:06 AM
I absolutely reject the notion that Prodigy is so much better than Havoc. He's not, and I've never heard evidence of the contrary. I would say they are equally as good.
2678902, on albums 2-4, i think Prodigy was better...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Wed Mar-28-12 11:26 AM
....they were even on Juvenile Hell ...Prodigy was better on Infamous, Hell on Earth & Murda Muzik ...everything after that I feel Havoc has been better ...but on their 3 best albums? Prodigy was better
2679161, RE: on albums 2-4, i think Prodigy was better...
Posted by Thanes1975, Wed Mar-28-12 08:55 PM
Prodigy was better when they were at the apex of their careers
2679549, IMO Lauyren Hill was Michael Jordan and Wyclef was Scottie Pippen
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Thu Mar-29-12 08:41 PM
and for a while they were winning and then Wyclef went like Scottie to Houston and fell off and briefly recovered in Portland and then fell off again.

Lauyren like Jordan came back when he went to the Wizards and it just wasn't the same.

but L Boggie ran that ship and they were winning, but He was never on her level, however he was the best sidekick and what theater came from it?
2679579, Spliff Star might be more like Cliff Levingston.

I actually think Big Boi is the best answer in this post, but I figured I'd toss out another one

Dave is nice enough to be an all-star, lock up 50 wins and the 2nd round of the playoffs, but with Pos they're winnin multiple titles.
