2678249, so Madonna is dissing her ex on the new album why is that accepted?
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Mon Mar-26-12 09:21 PM
you know yeah Marvin gaye did it, R.Kelly did it and so on, however why is that a marketing tool or used as a ploy again?

i mean especially if you have moved on and are in a next phase of said career?

Madonna comes off bitter and angry on some songs on her new album.

do you respect that from her or any other artist who airs there ex so loudly and use it as a marketing tool?

do you think the Ex outta get a royality check for being the main focus and subject?

Adele's ex thinks so. I Bet Janet Jackson's ex think so as well and so on.

whats your take and thoughts on it? airing out dirty laundry
2678256, I love Madonna.....

but seriously...the drug thing on her new record is a little disturbing.

The album title is a reference to Ecstacy.....at a recent performance she asked the audience 'Has anyone here seen Molly?' (slang for 'is anyone here on ecstacy?') to the cheers of a bunch of adolescents.

How cool is it for a 50 something year old lady to be encouraging/co-signing drug use with a bunch of teenagers?

Here's the link:

Strange...she's always skirted the drug issue pretty cleverly imo.
2678261, Have you been to a Flaming Lips show?

2678262, No.....

but a couple things.....there's probably not too many 14 year olds at a Flaming Lips show.

And do they ever specifically advocate drug use? I honestly don't know....but I'd guess that they probably reference/allude to drug use without saying something explicit like 'How many people are on LSD out there?"
2678787, My memory is fuzzy so I can't say what they said specifically

But the show was full of intentional triggers.
Patchouli blown through large fans;
lots of bright, flashing lights;
people pulled backstage only to reappear with inflated penguins;
glitter shot in clouds;
puppetry;
etc.

I left feeling manipulated, it was a scene man.
2679033, I saw them years back, lots of bells and whistles to substitute for good music

2679047, all true, but I don't think they've done drugs in a while

they're certainly a lot more clearheaded than in their 80s fuzz rock phase

2678802, No offense but do you really think Madonna's target is teenagers?
Posted by zuma1986, Wed Mar-28-12 12:40 AM
There maybe some and she may definitely hope to get lots with this album but let be real it's mostly 25-40 chicks and gay dudes.

Also it's more sad than disturbing that she thinks by jumping on a trendy drug bandwagon she'll be seen as more current.

Doesn't last as long and not as trippy. But yeah I'd say it's at coke levels of the 80's, since it's beyond a club drug. Hip hop, rock and R&B ppl are onto it as well.
2679038, only in the sense that it's usually E in its purer form & not in a pill
Posted by Bombastic, Wed Mar-28-12 03:48 PM
that shit has been around the same amount of time & no way is it even remotely approaching coke-in-the-80s levels of usage.

In fact it's still used less than coke right now.

Madonna's about ten years late with this shit like she was getting the Neptunes & Timbaland to produce her last record.

The most pervasive, widespread drug usage right now is unfortunately prescription pharmaceuticals.
2678263, Bashing your ex is a tradition that usually results in great songs

Can't speak for Madonna's new shit cuz, well, no way I am listening to that shit, but we all know some of the best art, music included, comes from a broken heart.

smh.

really?

what the fuck is wrong with you?
2678895, I don't have any strong feelings about it

Artists should write songs and albums about the things they know and that inspire them to create. If an artist is going through a bad breakup, it's natural that it would bleed over into their music. There's also the sense a lot of times that it's exploiting a public event to sell units (like everybody knew about Britney and Timberlake, and both of them took shots in a not-so-veiled way), but whatever.

Legally, I don't see any issue with it either unless it tilts over into slander. There are laws covering that.
2678945, did r kelly ever diss that 13 year old he molested and pissed on?

2678963, Don't care...
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Mar-28-12 01:27 PM
but I wish Tayor Swift would stop writing those damn cheesy songs about her fake ex's. Come to think of it.... Damn near every Taylor Swift song I've heard when she sings at award shows is talking shit about critics, boyfriends or Kanye.

She is a bully.
2679029, so we want honesty from our artists

except for when we get it?
