2674627, Jay Z has listened to Jay Elec's album and says... Posted by fram54, Sat Mar-17-12 12:16 AM
it's his favorite album of 2012, but has no singles. Is that a surprise?

2674666, What does "no singles" mean exactly? Posted by kwez, Sat Mar-17-12 03:06 AM
|
2674678, Means it's not coming out anytime soon. Posted by King Tuck, Sat Mar-17-12 06:59 AM
And if/when it does, it'll have at least 4 songs on it that will fuck up the cohesiveness of the project and take it from a possible classic to a pretty good album. Thanks Jay!

sounds like a 'work' to me that type of artist wouldn't have anything for the radio to begin with maybe if he get erykah or somebody on the hook. its just hype to build anticipation

Good point; However, New Amerykah Pt. 1's only real single was a bonus track.
Perhaps they could conceivably keep the album's cohesiveness intact by tacking on the single(s) at the end as bonus tracks.

when the album drops they're vastly underwhelming

2674873, But you have to admit, Posted by dunk, Sun Mar-18-12 10:40 AM
there is a disparity between J. Cole and Jay Electronica. J.E. has proved time and again how superior his lyrical style/content is in comparison to most of the rappers out now (at least in my opinion and many of those on OKP). I'd say his beat selection/creation is the most eccentric and difficult aspect of his music to commercially market, and probably the reason Jay-Z says "no singles".
|
2677781, the biggest disparity is that J Cole actually works Posted by Bombastic, Sun Mar-25-12 07:02 AM

1st Single
|
2678438, don't get this. J.Cole's "singles" weren't over the top friendly Posted by rjc27, Tue Mar-27-12 12:21 PM
them shits ended up in insane heavy rotation... I understand you had Trey on the 1 but that song is not really that commercial sounding... if a lot of artists make that same song it gets no spins... Jay Elec will get spins if Jay tells the big stations to spin that shit
|
2678607, But those songs weren't that far out of J. Cole's element. Cole is closer Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Mar-27-12 06:31 PM
to a Drake than a Jay Elec...so the transition wasn't THAT tough.

good. that means there probably won't be no bullshit on there.
a *dope* single would be ok, and he probably needs one for his record sales, but i can definitely do without. fuck a single. if he's financially stable why waste time making records for ignorant mufuckas.
|
2678602, I think this got spun WAY out of proportion Posted by Danny, Tue Mar-27-12 06:23 PM
I don't think ?uesto meant Jay was lamenting that the album had no singles. I think he was just making a statement, a Captain Obvious one at that, and the media was so thirsty for Jay Elec news that they made it out to be "oh this album is never coming out, Jay said so". That whole thing was like 20 seconds worth of commentary and it spun out of control in my opinion.
"Jay Elec's album has no singles." "Water is wet." "Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is". All of these are stating the obvious. Dude's album is more than likely coming out, single or no single, so chillllllllll
