2670821, rene and angela Posted by El_essence, Wed Mar-07-12 12:54 PM
So I don't know if this is the right place for this. But I've been on this R and A kick for the past month. I need to find a high quality version of their albums. I don't think they made CD versions of the first couple of albums. But if they did, and one of y'all got em, I need that. Please!

2670839, I don't think any of their earliest material has seen reissue. Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Mar-07-12 01:26 PM

only A STREET CAR NAMED DESIRE has been properly issued on CD; there have been HQ bootlegs of the others IIRC.
A -real- reissue of RISE (the '83 album) from the masters is coming soon.
I hope that soon we'll get their debut and WALL TO WALL afterward.
As a duo they never dropped a weak album IMO.
Between two collections Capitol issued, a number of the material on those earlier 2 albums (particularly WALL TO WALL and RISE) was released in HQ, give or take a track.

2670843, Wall To Wall (to me) is their best album Posted by briwil25, Wed Mar-07-12 01:32 PM
I Love You More Imaginary Playmates
And if you don't think Come My Way isn't a precursor to the sound that R. Kelly made famous from 12 Play to the s/t album, then I dunno what to tell you. His whole style came from that song in particular.
|
2670850, Yeah, that one had the best songs on it.... Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Mar-07-12 01:40 PM

and you're damn right about this. I didn't think about that until you said it. It was like proto-Kells.

2671083, R.Kelly>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.Rene and Angela Posted by mistermaxxx08, Wed Mar-07-12 09:27 PM
don't get it twisted they ain't never made no album touching no 12 play.
FYI that sound that Rene and angela had was a direct lift from the Isley Brothers. think to the synth and guitar in the pocket groove of "Groove with you"
when I hear some turkey on here lying on kellz then the alarm is sound.
"at your best you are love" that synth coda is where Kellz got alot of his inspiration.
R.Kelly is da Kang of R&B Rene and Angela are a "Family Matters" broke version of Ashford and Simpson.

2670919, Not To Mention Their Production of Other Artists Is Ridiculous,,,, Posted by Harlepolis, Wed Mar-07-12 03:53 PM
Rufus & Chaka Khan's "Camouflage".
Janet Jackson's debut.
The group Plush, which Siedah Garrett was part from.
And then the couple of tracks they produced early in their career for Lenny Williams' "Spark of Love", "Let Your Love Run Free" from Lamont Dozier's "Bittersweet" album, and the infamous original version of "Learned To Respect The Power of Love" by Alton McClain & Destiny.
I'm a HUGE fan of Madame Winbush, she took everything she learned when she was in Wonderlove and put it in her music, esp the unmistakable moog bass playing.
They had that LA boogie sound that I loved. Whenever I listen to their debut, I wonder what "Off The Wall" would've sounded like had Angela sang that album.

listening, you know which songs Angela was responsible for. I was about to spin this off into one of an Angela Winbush production appreciation post... LOL
