2670146, How many artists that you like... Posted by dalecooper, Mon Mar-05-12 02:14 PM
do you wish, in their prime, had done more work like the stuff you love the most? I don't usually regret when someone I really like does "more of the same." If he pumps out ten more albums/mixtapes that don't progress any, I'll lose interest, but since he's still a young guy in the beginning stages... I'm all about more of this particular same.
|
2670154, that's a problem with these free releases Posted by Goose, Mon Mar-05-12 02:34 PM
they come out so frequently that by the time the artist finally gets to releasing his debut lp, he's either changed his style so much that you wish he'd go back with what he originally sounded like OR his style has been done over and over taht you're sick of it.
I'm not saying KRIT needs to evolve his sound quite yet, in fact Im glad he hasnt switched his style up cuz i love his sound so much, but I think LFTUG might need to have something different.
But for now this is amazing. KRIT is the most exciting artist I've seen since probably Kanye.
|
2670177, none Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Mar-05-12 03:20 PM
i don't expect my favorite artists to make the same thing over and over again. that shit bores me.
there was growth from Krit Wuz Here to R4Eva. this here is nothing new. if he intended it like that, then fine. but im entitled to my disappointment.

2670159, Dude doesn't even keep the CD versions in stock Posted by dalecooper, Mon Mar-05-12 02:42 PM
so I don't feel too bad. I've actually been looking to buy the autographed CDs of all three mixtapes as a show of support, but as of right now only the new one is listed, and then only as a bundle with a t-shirt that I don't want; and for months before now, you could only buy one or the other of the first two, as they were never stocked at the same time.

2670164, Digging it after my first listen, but like R4E Posted by Oak27, Mon Mar-05-12 02:56 PM
I think this record will benefit GREATLY from the changing of the seasons. As soon as the temperature rises and the windows on the car don't exist on those drives to and from work, this album will reach it's full potential.

|
2670319, agree, although i put section.80 ahead personally Posted by Oak27, Mon Mar-05-12 09:42 PM
but with this as a sequel, yup, no problem. if it aint broke, dont fix it. its a free mixtape not even his official album. wait for that if you wanna be picky about similarities with his existing catalog.

2670322, I hate these kinds of opinions Posted by Nodima, Mon Mar-05-12 09:48 PM
UGK, OutKast, Ball & MJG have been consistently some of my most favorite artists since I came across all of them around 2001 (and since that was 7th grade, I think that's a fair timeframe)
And even having spent more than a decade with them I STILL think KRIT's records are not only in their ballparks but in most cases legitimately better than all but OutKast's first trio of albums. To my ears KRIT is a beast at everything he does and his lyrics are more open/relatable (for me) than any of those other groups.
But even outside of KRIT, I just understand why it's a bad thing for an artist to put their own spin on classic sounds if they can do it. If I heard a guy come out that made an album as solid and addictive as The Blueprint, Extinction Agenda or Chronic right today you're goddamn right I'd burn the hell out of him and consider it just as good as those classics. I wouldn't hold it against that person at all for feeling familiar; to me, there's a reason there haven't been many albums as dope as Super Tight or ATLiens since they were released. So all praise due to a man like KRIT who can create that special sort of feeling with new music.

I was around. I'm 34. I lived in Tennessee my whole life until last year. I listened to to 8Ball & MJG, UGK, Outkast etc. when they made their initial impact before 1995.
I'm also KRIT's friend and DJ.
It was KRIT's ability to manifest the same type of feeling I got from listening to that early Southern rap without it sounding like a cheap imitation that I sought him out to work with him when he was an 18 year old kid.
I've sat in on conversations with KRIT and the artists most people are critical of him "biting" or emulating where said artists are giving KRIT glowing commendation for doing what he is doing and making his own sound based on the influence their work had on him.
That's why I always get kick out of the opinion shared by those that say "if you listened to UGK, 8Ball & MJG, 3-6 Mafia etc you'd understand why I don't rock with KRIT like that".
Especially when all of the Southern rap royalty and I do mean all of them have put their arm around him and embraced him. Or, they've reached out wanting to work. I've seen them all say job well done to his face.

next this guy's going to tell us OJ da Juiceman is nicer than Freddie Gibbs or something

but somehow Big KRIT sucks for filling that void.
and I've been a defender of OJ for three years now but you're going to call Freddie overposturing in comparison to OJ da Juiceman writer of Bricks OZ Dueces and I Be Trappin?

this album sounds the most "rushed" and its still contender for album of the year.. this nigga is in a zone right now.
he is def 3 for 3. I can't wait what he holding for the album.

2670453, spun it last night...this ish is FIRENESS. krizzle classic. Posted by k0la, Tue Mar-06-12 11:05 AM
"wuz here" and "r4e" were definitely two of my favorite free albums to ever drop, and k.r.i.t went in on pretty much all the mixtapes/freestyles released before those two...but THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE!?!?! right now, to me anyway, krit is, to quote meth', "...the sharpest muhfucka with the beats, with the rhymes..."
i'm not from the south or anything, but there's a certain pride when krit can not only channel legends like pimp c and 8ball/mjg, but has enough style to make that space age music his own. especially because in the northeast where i grew up, when i was a 90's baby, that southern music wasn't getting THAT much burn. i mean, there were kids like me and my people who'd jam anything as long as it sounded cool, but then you know, just like there still are, there's the dudes that can't rock with anything that's not a dusty jazz sample over crisp drums. now i love that as much as the next fan, but there's more to this music and its legacy. and i think that's why k.r.i.t is such an important artist...he tells his story, relates it to our respective stories, and weaves it all into this hip-hop. so now that krit is able to bring that real southern sound, contemporized and updated, to the whole world...that's fucking dope to me.
"4eva and a day" man...this is some great goddamn music. dope album, well-mixed and arranged...k.r.i.t outshined himself, i'd say.
|
2670519, ........... Posted by d-bwoyFLOW, Tue Mar-06-12 01:58 PM

2670590, listened to it twice on the train to work, blew me away Posted by ChampAreno, Tue Mar-06-12 06:15 PM
We're really blessed having young artists like him, Kendrick, Q and J Cole putting out consistently dope and cohesive products. I love the amount of music that's out, Ross with his mixtapes and all the songs rappers are releasing online but if these guys (Krit and Kendrick especially) continue this type of output for a couple more years, hip hop wins big

2670701, There are more "interesting" artists currently.. Posted by mrshow, Wed Mar-07-12 03:23 AM
but very few are making music as consistently good as KRIT. Dude just has a great ear for samples and knows hooks. He's also able to connect with a listener emotionally which is a pretty rare skill. I hope he is able to switch it up a little on the actual album but, in the meanwhile, Im enjoying the shit out of this.

2670713, this is nighttime summer/spring driving music Posted by Amritsar, Wed Mar-07-12 06:51 AM
I played it on the drive home, with the sun going down and the weather warming up ... it was beautiful
Boobie Miles is my early fav.

2670729, Making that VA to AZ drive in a few days. This is perfect timing Posted by Ishwip, Wed Mar-07-12 09:01 AM
Almost feels illogical that this is free. __ I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!
Flip it enough? Flip these. Flip off. Go flip some f*cking burgers.(c)Kno

2670738, This album is marvelous. Posted by 201cue, Wed Mar-07-12 09:30 AM
It really feels like a sequel to R4. I dont like it when he really hams it up on tracks like "Country Rap Tunes". I like it when he keeps his flow fluid and sophisticated, to match the amazing, amazing bed of music he puts down.
I'd love to see dude produce for someone, anyone. KRIT is a straight auteur. Not only is he a great beatmaker, but he knows how to executive produce an album, write compelling hooks, the whole works. Dude is beyond talented.

2670766, Still like KWH the best, but maybe that's cause it was my introduction Posted by cidolfas, Wed Mar-07-12 11:31 AM
to dude.
But right now:
Krit Wuz Here > 4eva N a Day > Return of 4eva

2671051, Chill Posted by beatnik, Wed Mar-07-12 07:59 PM
this some "damn the club was weak tonight so lemme save it on this drive home and a stop at waffle house" music
Sounds like he's slowing down compared to R4 but it's just the vibe of this tape to me, chill, maybe i'll end up cruising this weekend and test my theory

side-note: "the alarm" is a great way to bring the piece full circle.

2671198, Phonte should track dude down... Posted by Stadiq, Thu Mar-08-12 10:41 AM
Next Phonte album should be 14 tracks of raps....9 by KRIT, 4 by KNO, 1 by Krhysis....
KRIT is crazy talented, especially on the boards.
His flow/delivery doesn't always do it for me...but dude is dope.
KWH is still overall his best album
ROF has his best songs/highs (Vent, etc)
This may be his most consistent though. . .
|
2671337, a Krit/Phonte collabo would be dope Posted by Amritsar, Thu Mar-08-12 03:58 PM
if this were the mid-00 point in Phonte's career, they would have hooked up after Krit Wuz Here

2671437, Still need to digest this more, but... Posted by ChiefRocka, Thu Mar-08-12 10:41 PM
I am gonna rank this 3rd behind KWH/R4 for now
It's still a dope project and has some definite great tracks, I just think some of the hooks on this album aren't nearly as crisp/infectious as the ones he laced us with on the past 2 projects.
He could have struck a better balance between bangers/laid back songs as well. Not enough bangers.
Highights for me so far are:
4evaNaDay theme Me & My Old School Red Eye Down & Out Temptation Handwriting
Boobie Miles' beat is dope (love the horn) but the verses and chorus sounds like a retread of Krit Wuz Here material, which would be fine but I don't think its executed well.
Also couldn't get into Country Rap Tunes because of the chorus (like dude said above, he kind of hamms it up)
The production on almost every song is still incredible. It's the hooks and some of the verses that feel a little off from his previous standard to me. But my expectations were insanely high for this project so I realize thats part of it.
Regardless on if this grows on me or not, it's still a quality project and I'm going to continue repping KRIT's music and anticipating every project he puts out. This dude is putting out projects for free that are better than 99% of albums coming out in today's market.

2671589, So I rode to it. Posted by SP1200, Fri Mar-09-12 01:26 PM
And it grew on me much hearing it from front to back in proper speakers. I like it a lot actually. Still not as much as Return of 4eva, but not too far off. Just wish it had a lil more bite, but it is a great release. Old School joint is still my favorite, I liked that song right away.

2671925, This whole project is some real spill shit Posted by Alphabet, Sat Mar-10-12 09:38 PM
When I first checked it out I was listening for all the technical shit, how was KRIT rhyming skill, how was the composition of the beats..ect
But then I took a Friday Night ride out to this joint..and actually listened to the concepts and what he was saying?..
Man..KRIT is touching on alot of real nigga life topics on this. This is the best 'grown but still young man' hip-hop album in a looong time. Front to back. Alot shit about reflecting on rights and wrongs, relationships, ambitions and shit, KRIT nailed it...
It is a little more..I don't know..'darker' or 'slower' than his previous work.
But the best way I can put this is, this album feels like sitting out on the porch, a drink with your best homie, just talking about life.
Thats what 4EvaNADay feels like.
