2666093, Nas, Common & Qtip form supergroup - No post?

The Standard.

2666095, I think we've all grown to be pretty skeptical of these announcements
Posted by CMcMurtry, Wed Feb-22-12 08:40 PM
A whole post about rap supergroups that never materialized could be made.

Would be cool though.

It will NEVER happen. An LP will NEVER happen. We all know this.
2666114, RE: Nas, Common & Qtip form supergroup 6 yrs ago-Fuck a post?
Posted by noit, Wed Feb-22-12 09:07 PM
...I don't even know why they bother trying to pretend that it'll happen. Tip and Com announced that group like 4-5 years back and they haven't released a single song in that time. Not a single fucking song. But hey at least something might happen now that Nas is part of the project. The albums with AZ and Preemo were both great.

*waits for (insert your favorite wu-member) to be added to the line-up in about 3-years*
2666115, Hahaha I know it.
Posted by Brew, Wed Feb-22-12 09:08 PM
And I mean, both Tip and Common have dropped ALBUMS in this time period, that they could've featured the other on...to get the hype up. Get shit jump started. But nope.

It's insane. Clearly they're not the only ones but it is annoying.

Add "Nas.Com" to the list of albums that'll never be released, too.
2666112, Only 1 of them can still rap, why should I care?

Posted by Binlahab, Tue Feb-28-12 02:50 PM

do or die
2668430, Well let's keep in mind that all three MC"s are beyond the 90's
Posted by Artful Dodger, Tue Feb-28-12 03:53 PM
if you take Nas' first two albums
and Tips three Tribe albums that he produced...
hell for my money all of Tribe's albums..

it's beyond the 90's and I think that with the new press release that just came out last week it's a good sign that this is moving. I doubt Tip would have let anything come out in a press form if it wasn't happening - at least I hope.

2668422, Until I hear actual product....meh.

Posted by Artful Dodger, Tue Feb-28-12 04:13 PM
I mean OKP's rep these days are not for music - it's for this kind of enviornment.

The scales have gone from -

90s - Yeah I love music/I love hiphop/hiphop is me - I am hiphop
to the 00's - wow I can get music for free?! I'm amped
to now - Fuck yo album. Dance bitch. Now give me that album for free. I aint paying for shit and I'm talking shit!

lol. SMH.

hahahaha... I mean... I don't think a press release should get you excited per se ya know... just take it as it comes folks.

That's all, if it happens it's a win for hiphop.

I would have preferred Nas, Tip, and Pharoh - keep it all Queens but hey I'll take it.
2668533, If they made a single I'd be the first to Wack it over it

2668819, The Psychic Friends (Common, Jeru, Black Thought, Monch)

2668822, What? Really?
Posted by Brew, Wed Feb-29-12 12:53 PM
Do you have any articles on this or anything? I never heard anything of this.
2668828, Started on the Lyricist Lounge compilation.
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Feb-29-12 01:23 PM
Final track on Disc 1 is a freestlye session on the STretch and Bobbito show with Monch, Thought, Common, and Absolute. At the end of the session, they say they're going by the name "The Incredible Force." Then there were just rumors of the Psychic Friends, with Jeru in the line-up as well.

They briefly make an appearance in the "1-9-9-9" video. At about 1:20 they show Common standing on the steps with Black Thought, Jeru, and Absolute.

Not much has been written about them and most of it was after the fact. The "Egotrip book of lists" mentioned them in "Rumored super-groups." Various other mags/websites have mentioned them also in the context of super-groups that never materialized.
2668835, Word. Thanks.
Posted by Brew, Wed Feb-29-12 01:34 PM
Funnily enough I just heard that freestyle session you speak of for the first time in like 10 years about 3 weeks ago, and was loving it...but somehow didn't hear that announcement at the end. I'll have to listen later and focus on that part. Perhaps I did hear that and just thought they were kidding, or something, since they all sounded pretty fucked up in that session.

I'll also have to check for the 1-9-9-9 cameo, I wouldn't have thought anything of that though because there were a few cameos in that video.

Thanks for the info.
2668859, yeah seriously that was by far one of my favo LL moments...

haha.. corn-eee.
2668730, didn't they announce this years ago?
Posted by FortifiedLive, Wed Feb-29-12 10:07 AM
iirc, it was just Common and Q-Tip though.
2668765, Yeah they did originally announce this like in 07 or something?
Posted by Artful Dodger, Wed Feb-29-12 11:20 AM
the thing people may want to consider is often times recording the music is the easy part - there is management, labels, contracts to consider.

I mean think about it... Tribe is still under contract with Jive to this day.

Why people are upset tho is funny as hell if not just downright childish.

Or they could just be passionate about music. *shrugs*

Either way it aint like half the people who posted are even buying music so to be pissed about not getting free music is hilarity.

2668804, Yea this is something most of us never think of...
Posted by Brew, Wed Feb-29-12 12:10 PM
>the thing people may want to consider is often times
>recording the music is the easy part - there is management,
>labels, contracts to consider.

..when we bitch about these albums coming out. I'd go as far as to say that the majority of them aren't released specifically because a contract couldn't be figured out between various labels, and that's the only reason music never surfaces.

>I mean think about it... Tribe is still under contract with
>Jive to this day.

Insane.

>Why people are upset tho is funny as hell if not just
>downright childish.

Not really.

>Or they could just be passionate about music. *shrugs*

Thereeeee ya go.

>Either way it aint like half the people who posted are even
>buying music so to be pissed about not getting free music is
>hilarity.

I don't fall into this category so I see what you're saying.
2668810, the thing is being passionate is fine if only they put their money
Posted by Artful Dodger, Wed Feb-29-12 12:28 PM
where their passion is. Otherwise...
2668860, Yes they did and it was Common & Tip.
Posted by SP1200, Wed Feb-29-12 02:43 PM
I lived in Atlanta when they announced that which would put it at '06 or '07.
2668862, I remember that - I know Tip has since signed on to two labels
Posted by Artful Dodger, Wed Feb-29-12 02:47 PM
and Com has changed labels...

that alone could be the problem.
