2664927, A Quik and El Debarge album would still be interesting.
Posted by BlackandProud, Tue Feb-21-12 01:12 AM
I think it'd still be interesting to hear a Quik (production) and El Debarge (singing/song writing/lyrics) album. Quik keeps it funky but smooth when it comes to the production and the production is clean and crisp. And El's a very talented song writer and he knows how to write songs. I think it'd still be a good look to hear a Quik and El album.
2664931, nah and we are cool, however gotta disagree on this one strongly

back in 98-01 I'd say yeah, however Quik fell off IMO and El is missing that thing with writing a track these days.

and it would feel gimmicky. if i could put El Debarge with anybody now it would be Thom Bell and those full string arrangements, etc..

El Debarge sings the Spinners, delfonics and Stylistics.

I could see that too. I agree that Quik's peak and prime was last seen back in like 98' but I still think he keeps something interesting with a groove and beat. Although it's not like it was back in the 90's but it's still interesting to me. But I do see what you saying about it feeling gimmicky now.

El covering the Spinners, Delfonics, Stylistics would be a cool too.
2665053, Yea...

Of course Quik's prime was in the 90s (whose wasn't?) but Book of David still showed that he had game on the boards (one of my favorite albums of 2011) so this would still be a good project IMO. 12 years later than preferable? Sure. Doesn't mean it wouldn't knock tho.
2665082, maxx you didn't like book of david?

2665089, too bloated and too long hit and miss
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Tue Feb-21-12 01:01 PM
he had some good things and then it went on about 6-7 tracks to long imo. glad he and sugga free are cool aGAIN HOWEVER QUIK NEVER TOOK HIS MUSIC Anywhere else.

he very much wanted to be ab R&B producer however it was always mixed results imo.

2665256, Quik Is Always A Pleasant Surprise When It Comes To R&B Singers,,,
Posted by Harlepolis, Tue Feb-21-12 07:25 PM
Truth Hurts, Deborah Cox, El(am I forgetting somebody else?)...

He did some work for Mariah, but it got shelved - after the lawsuit - which I hope it will surface.

Overall, this thread makes me wish Quik did more R&B production.
2665267, That Truth Hurts joint was fire.
Posted by Brew, Tue Feb-21-12 07:52 PM
What's the story with the Mariah shit? Never heard of that...lawsuit for what?
2665270, RE: That Truth Hurts joint was fire.

They worked on a couple of songs but ended up shelved after Quik and them got slapped with a lawsuit over Truth Hurts' "Contagious".

One of the songs he did with Mimi were in the same vein as "Not Really Lookin'", according to some article I read @ the time.

Oh word. Ok. What was the lawsuit on Contagious about? Writing credits or sample clearance or something?
2665277, LOL @ "Contagious", I Meant "Addictive"
Posted by Harlepolis, Tue Feb-21-12 08:12 PM
Yeah, it was about the Bollywood score sample.

Sounds like he NEEDS a Quik/DeBarge album to happen to pay bills.
