Thomas McClary is the 2nd most important Commodore he farmed that sound out to other acts as producer (see: Michael Henderson, Klique). His solo album wasn't bad (actually it was quite good, in a George Duke-sort of way).
Losing Lionel was a crushing blow, losing Thomas put them on life support, losing Ronald (LaPread) was pulling the plug
When Clyde decided he was gonna be Miles Davis Jr. as front man and start singing over thin, so-beige-it-makes-Dancing-On-The-Ceiling-sound-like-Super-Freak pop music... that band was dead in the water. He needs some heavy music to sing over.
