Instead of having multiple posts about upcoming releases for this year, lets be organized like before and post everything in here. Post your favorite songs, albums, videos, or arguments about the genre. Make sure its only about 2012. Thanks beat heads!

I guess ill be the first and start off the year with Demdike Stare's Elemental. Havent heard it but its a 4 vinyl, 2 cd release on Modern Love. Going by last years triple goodness of Triptych, this should be just as mesmerizing and hypnotic!

yep in heavy rotation since it dropped, synth/pad heavy mood music...some straight up bangers thrown in there for good measure too.

i'll let you know this week or next, but it's outtakes from vibert's '90s output, which was really good. i have the U.S. 2-disc set of the album and EPs. these outtakes are supposed to be more of the same quality.

i can't help but hope that veteran artists releasing albums of vault material becomes a trend
2661646, doesn't "mind bending" sound like an el-p dnb track?

Thanks for alerting me to this and nice to see dnb getting some recognition here. I am a huge fan of Plug. In my opinion, Drum & Bass for Papa and Black Secret Technology were both miles ahead of Goldie's Timeless, despite not getting the same recognition. Look forward to hearing this new release!

My electronic albums of 2012 would be:

SPY - What the Future Holds (bringing him to my city in January!)
Four Tet - Pink
High Contrast - Agony & Ecstasy (i liked it more than most people do)
Atlantic Connection - Love Architect (a bit of a disappointment, but still some nice tracks within)
Command Strange - every single release has been solid from this kid

It really is a good album. My only gripe is that on cd you have 4 tracks so its hard sometimes to find or fast forward/rewind to your favorite part. That aside, another win for AE.
2658676, i kinda like that
Posted by howisya, Mon Feb-06-12 04:02 PM
i think the original release was meant to be listened to as a whole or at least a vinyl side and not in a bunch of little segments... some of these aren't really refined ideas, at least in the sense their music came to be known by, so it's like a beat tape (lesson ears perk up). at least there are 4 tracks, the last 2 representing batches of the previously unreleased material. it's not like the standard issue of 'lovesexy' where the entire album is one track, which, again, i appreciate and understand on some level, because it flows well and has almost a megamix feel like with 'lego feet,' but there are times i just want to hear "anna stesia" or some other song.

This is where I'm at right now. Like I said in that other long-running beat-tape thread, I've always been into this type of sound but right now I'd have to say it's reached comical levels lol. It HAS to sound grimey and battered as all hell or it's just not making my rotation at this time, I'm sorry.

My heavy rotation is basically Knxwledge, Ohbliv, gordymichael, and Kaytradamus, plus the ol' standby Madlib and Dibiase coming thru with the slightly cleaner but still off-kilter beat-gen sound.

And I know this is an instrumental/beat thread, but even the albums I'm listening to with rapping still fit this aesthetic lol:

Uncut Raw "First Toke"
City Slick "Antique Black" and "The Money and His Fool"
(all three produced almost entirely by Fluent)

I still have his cd in the car so it's in the larger rotation. The guys I mentioned all had stuff come out late 2011 or 2012, though, so they're getting heavier play at the moment.

2658687, ssaliva - RZA
Posted by stylez dainty, Mon Feb-06-12 04:17 PM
Pretty bold move for a producer to name his album of beats after RZA. Even weirder, you wouldn't think RZA-inspired if you heard it without that context. But in a way RZA is a godfather of the scene, in that he kind of pioneered the moody lo-fi feel to hip hop production.

I like the album. Good for fans of Matthewdavid and the rest of the Leaving crew.

regardless the album sucks ass. ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! And I say that objectively, as someone who listens to the typ of stuff he's trying to do. What he actually did though.... ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I was done at the first track honestly.

RZA should sue for defamation of character.

And I wouldn't have even thought of Ho Trix (actually love Replica but wanted to type that) in this lane because I think of it primarily as beats.

But as a general rule I like pretty much everyone in the Leaving camp, if you consider them similar to Hype. But I made a mix of some beat stuff with lots of Leaving stuff and I had Hype Williams on it but took it off because it didn't fit, so I guess even I don't think it's the same thing. And i think Ssaliva is much better than Hype Williams, for the record.

possibly the best thing i've heard all year. i think i 'get' actress now. maybe because this album seems more cohesive than splazsh or hazyville. the compositions seem less mashed together, like the individual layers are more identifiable and the sequencing is more ...linear? not sure if that is the word i'm looking for. maybe harrier attk and rainy dub (and the previous 2 albums) loosened me up for this album. i don't know. alls i know is this album is kind of amazing

it seems like disc 2 is much better than disc 1. this is possibly due to more double helix tracks

i think pl's words in mumu (at least i think it was pl) and a phrase from the boomkat write-up ("a beautifully crafted collage wrought from the signals of London pirate frequencies that don't exist, but ought to.") kind of broke (in a good way) my thinking about the way the songs are constructed. i find myself appreciating the album as a collection of references to older, pre-dubstep uk electronic music (that sounds reductive/derisive but it's not meant to be)

and the new Diplo EP dropping. Yeah it's lots of bass slash dubsteppy stuff.

But Ufabulum is pretty fucking awesome. My favorite Squarepusher album in years. It's incredibly strong.

I recently discovered Rustie's Glass Swords LP from last year via his April Essential Mix. Which led me to Baauer's Harlem Shake. Which ruined a good week of my life during which I played it upwards of a 100 times.

Baauer being signed to Diplo/Mad Decent's Jeffries off-shoot reminded me that Major Lazer is dropping an LP later this year. That Diplo is producing big tracks for everyone these days. And that he's got a new EP with Express Yourself (the inevitable culmination of New Orleans bounce) as the first single.

Today I came across TNGHT, the new collaboration between HudMo and Luncie. You could say I'm more than a bit biased to the Glaswegian scene.

All in all it's been a good two or three weeks for me electronic music wise.

Posted by howisya, Tue Aug-07-12 04:22 PM
i think i wasn't really in the mood for this album this year so far and i've forced myself to listen because it's squarepusher, but i recognize that even with the handicap of no live bass, it's a good album. i'm also listening to his previous albums and EPs having put them off due to mixed and negative reactions from press and fans, and these are mostly good. i'm trying to learn my lesson of not letting other people get in my head and put me off of listening to my favorite artists, but it's tough.

a bit redundant but cool enough with some nice effects processing on the familiar album tracks throughout, maybe better than 'alive in japan' but not as good as some bootlegs out there from throughout his career, maybe partly because the material is already fresh in mind rather than old favorites or unreleased. that said, the album has fallen out of rotation for a good while, pending a last listen or so before i put it on the shelf.

basically...i wanted hectic zeniths to be more fully realized compositions/songs trying to push my limits as far as possible and incorporating live instrumentation and field recordings...hopefully eventually work with singers as well..and probably anything i release as HZ i'll have someone else help mix/master.

also, i saw a couple people labeling tupperware beats as hectic zeniths tracks which I didn't want, and don't want the hectic zeniths stuff being grouped with something that has giant sampled loops and just feels more formulaic and not of the same quality to me.

homeboy sandman said something in an interview to the effect of 'find something that only you do/only you can do'..there's so many producers out there who can do stuff like tupperware beats i think.

in short,
amplifya = beats, recognizable samples
hectic zeniths = giving everything i got, throwing in everything-but-the-kitchen-sink, more composition, trying not to building around pre-existing loops or long/recognizable samples.

maybe i'll re-up the amplifya stuff to a different bandcamp/soundcloud page for the hell of it. thanks for caring :)

EDIT: I don't mean to downplay disco screw/tupperware beats though..i did spend a good bit of time on those and like them for what they are

i'm listening to the self-titled 2009 album for the first time since back then, and i didn't remember it sounding so portishead-y both in production sound and guitar tone. pretty cool. looking for a link for those who haven't heard it, i found this posting on monome.org:

"monome - ALBUM - spinach prince *live hiphop monome stuff*"
new record from my group in chicago... free download in mp3 or wav.

the whole idea of this one is a madlib/dilla-inspired live group, everything is played live and then torn apart. Treating live instruments like samples.

hope someone here enjoys this!

http://www.spinachprince.com/

now the bad news is they took the album off of their site.* the good news is there was a 2nd EP last year.

If you're into this shit so many players lend GLK a hand on this and it works into an excellent package. Not trying to take anything from GLK. I've always regarded him as dope shit, but his 'production chops' were always somewhat secondary. Now though I'd say he's perhaps on that traditional production level able to get other musicians to help him realize his vision. It's good stuff.

getting caught up on various things I have but haven't listened to...

bvdub - Tribes at the Temple of Silence

The first of his I've checked since The Art of Dying Alone - sometimes with ambient-ish recordings I'm not inclined to check out multiple albums by the same artist if I'm not convinced the artist can change it up that much, and I liked The Art of Dying Alone but I wasn't sure I heard something justifying the level of praise that had been ascribed the artist. Hard to avoid noticing the many subsequent bvdub releases (within a couple years' time) so gave it another shot - this seems to have more rapid development and more variety, the presence of overt rhythms helps - though they don't seem a crutch or to undermine the ambient leanings. I like this way better. Anyone heard any of the more recently celebrated stuff (e.g. Serenity)?

Moritz Von Oswald Trio - Fetch

I feel like this is the most accessible of the studio recordings. More dynamic inside the individual tracks, clearer differences in style from track to track. The addition of some traditional instrumentation makes a difference, bigger variety in texture/timbre but they don't take over. Genuinely surprised at some reviews I've read with impressions to the contrary!

Deepchord - Sommer

I have a love/hate w/ artists in the Basic Channel vein, I love the sound and keep checking for that stuff even as I feel like it's overly derivative - I like dark, I like dubby, but those qualities are easily reduced to formula. I think the Modell/Hitchell stuff starts to go in more interesting directions when they get into this 'summer' vibe a la Liumin; there's something in techno that is inward-looking by nature and this seems particularly pronounced in the 'dub-techno' areas, so overt warmth or brightness in concept is a good way to break the isolated/autistic tendencies. The layers of hiss and field sounds lend well to summer, better than to 'cold' - I live in a place that gets very humid in the summer and this is the best aural representation of 'humidity' that I can think of.

Shackleton - Quiet Hour

I have the release that also includes the drawbar organ stuff, but haven't gotten to that disc - enjoy the Quiet Hour for being a good illustration of a long-form recording. I feel like I hear a lot of work in something like this, it escapes me being able to give something space to be re-worked over lengthier stretches, riding a select set of sounds - increasingly genre-less.

The Best of Bloodfire

Daz-I-Kue remixing various classics ("The Bottle," "Love to the World") and some others ("Lighters Up" L'il Kim), more house-y than say, broken beat, but a nice remix collection - knowing the intersection, you get the picture, not much to say!

I have other stuff to listen to but time is limited....

Kay Suzuki - Consciousness

A couple years old but mostly overlooked, I think - in the area of soulful house/"nujazz"/broken beat, synth-y english-style dance/soul. A nice listen if you like this kind of thing, colonel red on some, which gives a frame of reference in terms of the early 2000s BITA-and-related influences. Sort of in the shadow of those, but doesn't bother me as I like that kind of thing.

Si Tew - When the Clouds Ran Away

Came out last year on an Atjazz imprint, another UK guy who seemingly came up under the influence of the early 2000s london stuff, e.g. Pete Simpson appears on a track - and similarly I haven't heard much about it, just kind of found these looking through discogs/juno. A little more 'electronic' textured than the Kay Suzuki, ---presuming here that Kay Suzuki is a little 'warmer' a la house music's leanings.

Part-Time Heroes - Lightfalls

More of the downtempo/'nujazz' type stuff, but utilizing more traditional instrumentation a la some aspects of 4Hero - strings, live drum sounds, etc. - but not more Stepney-mimicry. Electronics is in the production style, keys. A cohesive 'album' - mix of melancholic vocal tracks and interesting/appealing instrumentals, some of those in the kind of transmuted jungle that fits so well in this context. Probably the closest thing to a great album I've heard lately, very strong at the least. Color scheme of the cover art is faded browns/oranges, non-distinct landscapes - autumnal in mood, which suits the tone of the music -- very good for our current season.

This kat is from Japan, his sound is a mixture of hip-hop & jazz with plenty of choppin' going on, this album "Southern Paradise Time" has a lot of slow cuts on it but it has a laid back boom-bap thru out.

campband lank: http://OliveOil.bandcamp.com/album/Southern-Paradise-Time

My favorite beats on it are "Storrie" & "Icontinue Mazfaker", I posted about about this a few months ago & similar joints like these in my tumblr blog all the time so check that out when you get a chance as well.

2750620, Snubluck "Remix Tape Vol.4"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Mon Oct-22-12 10:16 PM
Snubluck is a beatmaker from Denver, and is kind nice, he has quite a few releases on campband and soundcloud to listen to.

Anyway, this album isn't so much instrumental than remixes taken to that next level of beat-gen madness, "Remix Tape Vol.4" is kind of an acquired taste than some regular hip-hop or downtempo shit; you have to check it out for yourself, I like almost half of the tunes but the entire album is free to download so it's not like you have to pay for it, what you don't like you can delete.

definitely make up your own mind on it. i will say that this video from his next/current release sounds a little less like burial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8yXnU1zmS0&feature=youtu.be
to me, it sounds like burial + the joker theme from the dark knight (side note: the hans zimmer featurette on the blu-ray made me appreciate this even more) + mj cole or someone a bit more uptempo and traditional garage than soundboy burial.
2750725, Orbital - Wonky
Posted by howisya, Tue Oct-23-12 11:03 AM
this is my favorite electronic music album of the year that i've heard so far. it's better than i expected given the disappointing last couple albums, and i consider it their best album since 'in sides' (one of my all-time favorite albums). it reminds me a lot of plaid's 'scintilli' album from last year because it shows a veteran duo giving the listener what they always loved about their music but updating it and experimenting as well, to great results. i am very satisfied with 'wonky,' title aside, and hope they continue recording and touring together. new listeners aren't going to get the rawness or uber-trendiness they can get with newer/younger artists, but fans should be pleased.

2751691, lukid, two fingers, pangaea
Posted by bearfield, Fri Oct-26-12 12:33 AM
lukid - lonely at the top

this record sounds like he's been hanging out with actress. it's a natural progression from the 'boxing club' and 'spitting bile' eps which were approaching a dirtier sound than his previous albums. everything is just grimy on this. nice textures. the tracks don't really build to much; they are more like sketches than the full paintings of 'onandon' and 'foma'. i think i like this but i need another listen to discern some of the details i'm sure i missed on the first listen

two fingers - stunt rhythms

*sigh*

i don't think i like this. i don't like where amon tobin has been taking his sound since 'foley room'. this seems like amon taking the sounds from 'isam' and putting his attempt at modern beats under them. there are some unpleasant dubstep-ish sounds on this record. just... bleh. the peedi crack features are a letdown. the whole thing is just kind of boring. '101 south' is a banger though. 'magoo' (which i believe is a reference to the fact that the first two fingers album was heavily referencing timbaland) is good too, as it sounds like like something that could have appeared on 'out from out where'

pangaea - release

talk about going against type. pangaea is clearly trying to distance himself from his (brilliant) previous work. it bears some resemblance, but it really is trying to be more varied than the pangaea ep or his singles. nothing terribly groundbreaking or moving here. 'middleman' is ok. it sounds the most 'pangaea-ish' to me. 'aware' has a nice semi-metalheadz-photek-source-direct feel to it. semi-related: i really wish i could find 'you + i' on vinyl. that song still gives me goosebumps
2753550, two fingers - stunt rhythms [2]
Posted by howisya, Fri Nov-02-12 11:15 AM
i like it ok but nowhere near as much as the first album (one of my top 5 albums of that year w/ APC, major lazer, mos def, and dj quik & kurupt). i don't understand how or why he released a two fingers album without doubleclick, the other finger if you will. (what's next, an eskamon album without eskmo?) this could have been another amon tobin album easily, dumbstep and all. it's interesting you consider the first two fingers album as heavily referencing timbaland because i don't think that ever occurred to me, but i do hear it on "magoo" on this album. i look at 'stunt rhythms' as an outgrowth of tobin's fascination with mid-'00s g-unit more than anything else. 50 would've sounded good on some of these. that said, sway's presence is sorely missed on this album as well. i never really paid attention to him before 'two fingers,' but he killed that album. even ms. jade shined. none of the guests came off on 'stunt rhythms,' which is probably why they were relegated to a bonus disc when the whole album could have fit on one disc.
2766809, This would be near the top of my biggest let downs list n/m

HONEYCOMB HIDEOUT:

BOLLYWOOD SQUARES (w/ D-Prince):

Solely using samples from Bollywood soundtracks from the 60's & 70's, D-Prince (The League) & Lyle Horowitz (5846/Maison) teamed up to bring you Bollywood Squares, a six-song instrumental EP that explores different sonic landscapes while maintaining a consistent vibe.

WHO ARE WE? (PART IV: SYNDICATION):

A GOOD CLEAN FIGHT:
http://lylehorowitz.bandcamp.com/album/a-good-clean-fight

Stories about the fight to stay in a relationship, stay sober and stay focused are weaved in with songs that take the more literal implication of the album title to create a body of work that's as personal as it is conceptual.

BEST BUY SESSIONS - VOL. 1:
http://www.mediafire.com/?psk821dfyd722x9

EP made at Best Buy while I was without power during Hurricane Sandy. Produced entirely in Garage Band. Results may vary.

THE HAUNTED TOUR:
http://lylehorowitz.bandcamp.com/album/the-haunted-tour

The Haunted Tour is inspired by an annual event of the same name where I try to visit as many haunted attractions as I can, wherever I am, leading up to Halloween. This year, the tour has been gaining prominence, including a mention in USA Today's Pop Candy column: www.usatoday.com/story/popcandy/2012/10/25/what-scares-you/1657799/

Presented by RockTheDub.com, The Haunted Tour features samples from horror films, old-time radio, haunted attractions & EVP recordings and was produced and arranged entirely during the month of October 2012.

DISCLAIMER: EVP Recordings can be considered "doorways" from our world to another. These doorways are thought to provide access for entities to enter our world. They may be the spirits of people who have lived before, or they could be something else altogether. Some researchers even believe that they could be otherworldly beings from another dimension.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS ALBUM OR LISTEN TO TRACK #10 ("The Spirit World") IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT OPENING UP ANY SO-CALLED "DOORWAYS" FOR SPIRITS TO ENTER. ADDITIONALLY, IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR HAVE ANY HEART CONDITIONS, IT IS ADVISED YOU DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS ALBUM.

ONE NIGHT ONLY:
http://www.mediafire.com/?bnktl0du89n3b1b

One Night Only is a collection of instrumentals that I recorded live by chopping samples in Virtual DJ and triggering them via AKAI MPK. Although the majority of my beats were produced in Logic, FL Studio & Pro Tools, I've developed a new-found appreciation for hardware and the human element of creating music.

WHO THE FUCK IS LYLE HOROWITZ? (LIVE AT MATCHLESS):
http://www41.zippyshare.com/v/14854835/file.html

This instrumental album was recorded live at Matchless in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on November 28th, 2012.

...my final project of the year is a joint EP with producer Storm Watkins and it will be released this coming week.

last year some lithuanians crafted an excellent marriage of jazz, pop, folk, and intelligent minimal electronics with bjork/mum/"indie"-ish vocals on their release 'expeditors' (see http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=2499867&mesg_id=2499867&listing_type=search#2764974), and this year they eschewed the jazzy elements in the instrumentation (but pay attention to the vocals) and took their music into even more immense, beautiful, and strange territory. "The winds" nearly moves me to tears every time. one of my favorite albums of 2012. still sung in english.

Nice EP. The other one from this year "Medium" is more the continuation of their explorative nature but this one holds it down.

2766837, Nine Inch Nails - Uncoiled
Posted by howisya, Thu Jan-03-13 12:45 PM
this is actually an archival release of unused and even unfinished coil remixes of NIN from the early to mid 1990s circa the 'fixed' and 'further down the spiral' remix albums and the film young americans, which featured an unreleased remix of "gave up" similar to the sketches featured on this set. this was compiled from DATs by former coil member danny hyde for the NIN fan forum echoing the sound who ponied up hundreds of dollars just to liberate these remixes, many of which trent reznor himself reportedly never received. for fans of vintage coil or NIN, this is a must have. available as a free download in mp3 and flac with hyde's recording session notes and ETS's unofficial artwork.

yes, i like it, too, but i would like it more if it were in a format i could put into rotation, so it will probably be a while before i listen enough times to appreciate it fully

2780788, RE: Nine Inch Nails - Uncoiled
Posted by howisya, Fri Feb-22-13 12:52 PM
"The extended edition contains tracks that were not included on the original Uncoiled release. Those tracks are as follows:

01 - This is the opening commentary from Danny Hyde.
02 - This is the original version of Gave Up (open my eyes) as Danny intended it to sound. On the initial release of Uncoiled, we incorrectly adjusted the sample rate. This caused the song to play faster than Danny intended.
06 - Closer (demo) with commentary
07 - Additional commentary from Danny Hyde on the following Gave Up remixes"

2767753, Ross Baker - Revolution
Posted by howisya, Sun Jan-06-13 11:23 PM
i first knew of ross over a decade ago as the guy who ran the future sound of london fan site. i remember he was quite tickled when i sent in news that common was considering naming his next album 'the isness,' just like FSOL's long in the works album (the album ended up 'electric circus'). i guess he went from indignity over a rapper stealing the name to registering here (http://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=user_profiles&u_id=129747). anyhoo, he went on to release music on FSOL's digital label, although mostly he self-releases. 2012 was apparently a very prolific year for him. the album i've heard was brought to my attention by the real bookman (http://www.thisisbooksmusic.com/2012/01/01/bandcamp-suggestions-ross-baker-revolution/), although you're on your own finding the album now. the effort is worth it if you like musique concrete, field recordings, and noise.
2768297, his two main releases from last year are totally sweet
Posted by howisya, Tue Jan-08-13 08:50 PM
the 'revolution' releases are compiled from '90s experiments, but the album The Blackbirds' Revenge and its followup Photographic Reflection are almost all new recordings. these are much more melodic and even more organic/acoustic in comparison. his form of ambient has a lot more twists and turns than some people's. more than that, there are several true songs of the classic lo-fi indie and folk variety with singing and lyrics. these releases make for great listens with the common threads of field recordings, acoustic guitar, and piano woven through the various turns in musical style, and it's consistently chill, suitable for early mornings and late nights.

2768101, Leila - U&I
Posted by howisya, Tue Jan-08-13 12:41 PM
maybe her most disappointing or least satisfying album but not without some cool ideas. mt. sims is the voice of this album. if nothing else, i applaud her always brave and experimental outlook and how levity and darkness inhabit the same space. to be revisited.
2768222, Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury - Drokk: Music Inspired By Mega-City One
Posted by howisya, Tue Jan-08-13 04:43 PM
this grew on me pretty fast. i would've loved to have heard this watching dredd. this is a nice review, http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2012/05/drokk-a-soundtrack-to-a-film-that-doesnt-exist-but-actually-it-does/ , but make sure you click over to the cited interview with geoff, http://www.theskinny.co.uk/music/features/301804-geoff_barrow_talks_drokk_2000ad_as_important_me_public_enemy , as it's really insightful on a number of things.
2768253, Ulrich Schnauss & Mark Peters - Underrated Silence
Posted by howisya, Tue Jan-08-13 05:53 PM
a melange of shoegaze and ambient crossing the proverbial red line into new age. not that ulrich was ever a really edgy guy, but this is extremely safe and inoffensive stuff. i used to be a much bigger fan of his, but i guess he peaked early and is just going to coast for a while.
2769013, SoiSong - S012PLIT (split double EP)
Posted by howisya, Fri Jan-11-13 12:59 PM
CoH's side is really beautiful, and peter christopherson's side of outtakes found in his files and assembled as a digital bonus is about as odd and interesting as one would expect.

true fanservice, it shows jack can revisit his old styles and do them just as well now if he chooses. i'm always intrigued by fans of any music who just want their favorites to make more music exactly like their favorite release. this should satisfy those who have been confused or put off by the various directions jack dangers has been going for the last decade or so.

http://inversephase.bandcamp.com/album/pretty-eight-machine (stream/purchase)

this 8-bit instrumental but otherwise faithful recreation of the entire album really shows how strong those melodies already were from the beginning and generally how great that album is. i found myself signing along from memory years after the last time i listened to the original. really catchy and a great demonstration of how fun 8-bit and chiptune style music can be.

included here not because they are an instrumental band but because this is a fine set of dance, IDM, ambient, noise rock, and even acoustic remixes of their last album from the likes of tim hecker and justin broadrick
