2652043, Most heartfelt (sincere) verses of all time?
Posted by cidolfas, Mon Jan-23-12 11:50 AM
Two that come to mind immediately are Elzhi's from "Reunion" and Eminem's second/third verse on "Difficult."

Doesn't necessarily have to be about dealing with loss, but list some other examples of verses you feel are from the heart.
2652049, Brother Ali - Faheem

Also P.O.S. has a few good ones.

Kanye's "Hey Mama", the live version especially.

Maybe Ross on "Tears of Joy"

2652152, 50 showed real vulnerability on "hate it or love it."
Posted by Joe Corn Mo, Mon Jan-23-12 02:59 PM
i'd also say eminem's "rock bottom" and "the way i am"
were coming from a real place.

also, one of those verses where ghostface was crying on a record
fits the bill.

i don't know if any of these are the greatest,
but they were the first ones to come to mind.

the perfect blend of heart-and-penis-felt lyricism. with a touch innocence.

the fact that it involves all the above makes in more "sincere" than any of his other work.
2652453, LOL.... and yea, that's all true

that's part of what i love about ghost's style tho... most of his shit sounds like he reallllly means it... even when it's kinda funny or tongue-in-cheek...

2652389, RE: Eminem on Beautiful, Rock Bottom, and If I had
Posted by Goose, Tue Jan-24-12 02:15 AM
some of eminem's stuff is moving to me, but "Beautiful" is annoyingly forced and contrived, especially the chorus.

Rock Bottom, which when i was like 12-13 was one of my favorite songs ever, i'll have to play that again, havent heard taht one in years.
2652436, Still bring Rock Bottom and If I Had out a couple of times a year...
Posted by TheAlbionist, Tue Jan-24-12 08:02 AM
Nobody does self-pity like Eminem when he's in the right (/wrong) frame of mind.

Kim is pretty fucking astounding too... nobody should come THAT real!

Kanye - Family Business made me ball when I'd just lost my Grandma... all his family dedications are pretty real though.. Hey Mama and Roses still get spins when I'm feeling misty-eyed about home.

Joe Budden - 10 Minutes and Calm Down

2652467, I heard Kim for the first time in a few years a couple weeks ago
Posted by Playa_Politician, Tue Jan-24-12 10:09 AM
That's one of the only songs i'd skip on that album, not because it's bad but damn that shit was intense.

Me and my girl were driving the other day and it came on random, i decided to keep it on, and shit... she thought i was nuts for listening to that shit. It's dope, but just too much violence for me.

See it all makes sense, doesn't it?
You and your husband have a fight
One of you tries to grab a knife
And during the struggle he accidentally gets his Adam's apple sliced
(No!)
And while this is goin' on
His son just woke up and he just walks in
She panics and he gets his throat cut
(Oh my God!)
So now they both dead and you slash your own throat
So now it's double homicide and suicide with no note
I should have known better when you started to act weird
We could've...HEY! Where you going? Get back here!
You can't run from me Kim
It's just us, nobody else!
You're only making this harder on yourself
Ha! Ha! Got'cha!
Ha! Go ahead yell!
Here I'll scream with you!
AH SOMEBODY HELP!
Don't you get it bitch, no one can hear you?
Now shut the fuck up and get what's comin to you
You were supposed to love me
{*Kim choking*}
NOW BLEED! BITCH BLEED!
BLEED! BITCH BLEED! BLEED!

smh lol

Elzhi on Slum's Keep Holding on
I know I might sound like I got a cold and I'm sneezing
But I'm grown and I'm breathin', hear the tone in my speakin'
Both of my parents gone for a reason
Daddy's wrong just for leaving mother widowed and I'm breathin'
Now spirits above the stones and the demons
She belongs in the teachin' where there's a throne in the kingdom
And deep inside my bones I'm believin'
that my poems that I'm readin' is the songs to my freedom
But life can be known as deceiving, what I'm shown isn't pleasing
Makes me wanna throw stones at a deacon in his home when he preachin'
See that's Satan makin' my heart cold as a breeze till it's frozen from freezin'
Gotta get right, I might not make it over this evening
Cause your time period is shorter than breath goin' from weazen
Heard my nigga ?Tone?, he was bleedin' through his clothes
it was leakin' from some chromes that was squeezen
Than when I'm all alone I be thinkin' I'm against All Eyez
prayin' to God to show me the evens
But I'm sick of bein' poked through the seasons
smokin dro through the drinkin' with two hoes through the weekend
About to go till I see ?

Little Brother - Speed

Binary Star - I know why the caged bird sings (1&2)

Blu - Dancing in the rain
And if you ask me stress is a bitch
My girl needs more attention
And my record label is desperate for hits
Now I'm pissed cause I'm gettin' out the zone again
Makes me start to dread when I see a microphone
It ain't supposed to be like that
I said I'll be right back
I left the office, got a phone and called my partner Jack
And I asked him, remind me why I'm rappin'?
And right before he answered I remembered my passion in the past
When I was scribblin' in my tablet to box out my mom and dads scrappin'
To help me when my grandmother passed
Plus the many times I was homeless
And the times when I was broke
And this music made a way when I was hopeless
He told me to remember the rain, it'll diminish the pain
He told me not to ask him again cause I know
