nah there's mixing issues too, listen to her vocals. Brickwalling is the fallback to the lack of a proper mix.

This sounds mixed like all of madlibs songs, and the heavy compression is done on purpose, it's supposed to be an effect. Flying Lotus does it too. It sounds terrible in cars tho.
2646917, RE: dope but..
Posted by imcvspl, Sat Jan-07-12 10:16 AM
*broken record* you can accomplish the 'effect' within a proper mix. and calling it an effect doesn't take away from the fact that it's a shitty mix. aka why it sounds like crap in ya whip.
2646766, Nice... and "Owed To Mama Rickie" is dope as well

2646778, Cool, 'bout time Madlib did an album with a female vocalist...

I was hoping it was Frenza, but Georgia's cool too.

(9th also used this sample too.)

"Coming up this year: Homeboy Sandman, Quakers, The Minimal Wave Tapes 2, The Lions, Myron & E, Jonwayne, Dave Dub and more new releases from Dam-Funk, J Rocc, Jonti, CX and plenty of other as-yet-unmentionables." sure doesn't sound like the stones throw that milked the madlib underground cash cow for 10 years...

no replacement for madlib IMO, but i'll give it a listen

it seems like madlib's last project with ST might be madgibbs, but i could be wrong... either way, no proper followup to 'madvillainy' after all of these years would be totally anticlimactic and disappointing

there was a topic where sweeney was talking to me about it and specifically about the madlib medicine show imprint being or becoming separate from ST, with the writing on the wall that madlib is leaving... it might not be true at all, but it's becoming more believable every week
2648542, Who runs the MM Show imprint?

I don't know, I don't see the benefit to him leaving other than (potentially) more money. As an outsider/fan, I have a hard time believing he'd find a home as accommodating to his artistic whims as Stones Throw is/was. And he's never struck me as being all that interested in the business side of a label if MM Show is his own thing.

In fact, I'd be wildly disappointed if he left Stones Throw, now that I think about it. :(

2648547, let me clarify
Posted by howisya, Wed Jan-11-12 04:34 PM
i meant madlib invazion. i was always under the impression it was simply a sublabel (imprint) under stones throw like mind fusion. maybe madlib invazion is branching off into its a separate venture or always was one (BSharp among others can confirm).

me neither except for self-releasing, which i guess is what the idea is.

>And he's never struck
>me as being all that interested in the business side of a

he always struck me as just a guy who makes music all day and hands it over to PB wolf to decide to put out in a few months or years or not, but maybe he realized that if he's working so hard and has a fan base that can support him, why share? maybe he doesn't feel he owes PB wolf anything more. i'm just theorizing here.
2648553, I guess as long as I still get the music it's cool
Posted by Ishwip, Wed Jan-11-12 04:44 PM
I was looking at his discography on the Stones Throw site and forgot how much he's actually released thru Madlib Invazion (recent releases, mostly). They still feel like Stones Throw releases and I believe are heavily featured on their front page when they drop so in the end it may not matter as a fan.

2649221, I wonder if she just got a bunch of Madlib beats....
Posted by 3d1gg4, Fri Jan-13-12 12:58 PM
picked what she liked and put her singing over it
Seeds sounds like it's a (not done so well) loop of what was originally a ~2mn long beat

the original/working title was "madlib 1", which was track 1 from "Unknown album (7/18/2011 6:48:" so she probably just made and sang over a bunch of madlib loops last summer
2650427, So it'll be like every other Madlib-produced album we love and adore :-)

people in here actin like they dont know what time it is
2650579, I know it's more romantic picturing him in the studio with the MC/singer
Posted by Ishwip, Wed Jan-18-12 04:12 PM
...but that's just never been his m.o. since.......ever? Maybe the Lootpack/late 90's days when he was rapping more.

I will say it would be interesting to hear how a project would sound if he was more actively involved. Would there be a positive difference (the common assumption)? None at all?

2650580, i'm aware that he simply sends artists beat tapes
Posted by howisya, Wed Jan-18-12 04:14 PM
this GAM album is basically her sampling his beats, so she's really the producer... not sure why anyone takes offense to facts
2650664, i always got the impression that's how he was with doom
Posted by jehiza, Wed Jan-18-12 09:54 PM
am i wrong in that impression?

2650455, something sounds off
Posted by 3d1gg4, Wed Jan-18-12 11:40 AM
on the seeds loop I mean
I usually prefer when Madlib mixes the albums he produces like on OJ Simpson and the medicine shows. I only hope the sequencing and the beat selection will be on point like on Stoney Jackson or the MED and Dudley Perkins albums

2675603, I bought a copy of the album yesterday

Didn't think I'd find it in stores before the end of the month.
I only played it once, so I can't express a definitive opinion yet, but it sounded kinda demo-ish. We'll see after a few more spins...
