2641651, Filling in the blanks on Rap songs with censored lyrics
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Dec-20-11 07:25 PM
So this isn't about the typical "I don't give a ______" "You can suck my ______" we hear...but there are a lot of Rap songs out there where words were censored for all types of reasons...politics and whatever else.

Here's a few that I can think of that we figured out right away...
"And ________ was stealin and robbin em" - Nas

"Alicia ______ dyke bitches" - The Game

"Even off a gallon of Cisco, I could never go Disco...man I ain't from _______!" - DJ Quik

What are some blanks in Rap that you can think of that you immediately knew what the word(s) were...and what are some that you never figured out?
2641666, something is blanked out on the unedited Marshal Mather's LP...
Posted by Joe Corn Mo, Tue Dec-20-11 07:52 PM
can't think of what the song was
off top.

but i whenever it comes up,
i always think to look it up, but then i forget to...

and when it comes on again,
i realized that i forgot to look it up...

and i never end up looking it up.

just about the most disturbing song I've ever heard.

I do laugh, though, at the part where he's like:

"Bullshit you bitch, don't fuckin lie to me
what the fuck's this guy's problem on the side of me?
fuck you asshole, yeah... bite me
Kim, KIMMMM!!!!!!!!....

Why don't you like me?"

I laugh at that part. Otherwise I'm cringing. Haha

that's why I thought it was wack. if you're gonna censor, censor it ALL.

they played "faggot" and things like that backwards all over that album. which I'd be cool with if they were consistent with all the cussin.

2642216, "gay"

dude was on fire

I always imagined it was De La who wanted that out, not necessarily the label
2690243, Yea probly...
Posted by Brew, Tue Apr-24-12 06:22 PM
I mean, "gay" was said in several songs before and several after that. So I'd definitely think it was De La.

But yea...Comm's verse on that track was dope as fuuuuuck.

"in fact I get more hoes than Tessa
peep game like a refe-ree

He was the best in the game in this time period IMO.

Posted by johnbook, Wed Apr-25-12 08:54 PM
You could allude to, but not be direct. That's different from what happened later in the decade, but "prophylactics" was, back then, like saying the words "penis" and "vagina". A few years before that, saying condom was still considered "dirty". Let's not forget that George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" was turned into "I Want Your OW!" for a number of markets.

Forget the fact that slang use was able to pass, but if you said something straight forward, it would be censored. It wouldn't be until a few years later, as "safe sex" became something that was talked about more openly, did references like that ease up.

and you know I had the same exact idea... I disliked when rap albums were selectively censored. controversy sells, so I don't see the point.

one of the biggest ones that come to mind (if it hasn't been mentioned yet) was Mars Co Op on "Clones". I have an idea of what was censored.

Generally, it seems you can't say shit about gays or Jewish people, but you can let all the "niggas" and "bitches" (and sometimes "Black bitches") go without a hitch

2690274, every time they do this... it's 'CISM, IMO
Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Apr-24-12 06:57 PM
even when it's done to white rappers like Eminem. "Rap" is still seen as a "Black" music and after the Body Count shit (that wasn't rap, but was promoted/led by a rapper)... that was the end of it. Some might even say it was Public Enemy, who didn't actually have anti-Semitic lyrics but was accused of such because of Professor Griff going off at some random event. Public Enemy only went so far as to saying "told the rab(bi) get off the rag", which was rather tame IMO.

I even heard that Ice Cube's Death Certificate album, full of all kinds of crazy 'CISM and off-color venting was censored on reissue. The original 1991 version keeps all the shit intact (think squeeg confirmed it, I never copped the reissue).

Tribe albums always had weird censoring. They'd censor out curse words like "ass" sometimes, but leave in "fuck" a few times.

Like on Low End Theory...."take your roly poly fat promoter____to chemical bank and get my cash"

But then they leave in something like "going out like suckas....mothafuckas"

"Ain't That A Bitch" from Dirty Money. Always wondered if that was a concept that just went over my head (maybe censor to the beat). And if so, what's the key to the puzzle? Because the censoring is all over the place but the hook is untouched.

On another note, glad this topic is still active. Saw it earlier this year and meant to post. I have tons of -weird spot or don't know that word- censored songs that weren't mentioned.

But glad you found it. Thanks.

The first one to get killed/Light skinned nigga with his brains pouring out/At the same burger stand where (censored) hang out/Now this is not a tape recorder saying that he did it/But ever since that day, I was looking at him different."

2752955, I figure that's an actual person's name.
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Oct-31-12 10:21 AM
"This is not a tape recorder sayin that he did it" probably indicates he didn't wanna fully snitch on a person for murdering someone.
2753003, Thats what i figured

and that kendrick censored it himself (same was Em censored Suge tho for dif reasons) but i wonder if the name was ever recorded tho in the first place
2753311, If I did it...(c) OJ

I would've recorded the full name, had the engineer chop the audio, and still put the bleep over it. That way, the flow isn't ruined by trying to manually do some crazy start-stop shit, and it leaves people like us on a message board wondering who he's talking about.
2753035, I thought it was GAME from the rhyme scheme...

sounds like it could be "a black" which would possibly be a shot a Em, or somebody definitely from the D as it sounds like he is speaking to someone specifically.

"And yo, for real that nigga K-____ can suck my dick!"
(FYI, that line pre-dated the "no-homo" trend)

This was DMX's first shot back on wax regarding his beef with
K-Solo's "Spellbound" and "Letterman" songs. Not 100% certain
what the purpose of the "K-Solo" edit was, but I do recall that
"Hip-Hop beef" was at an all time low after the Pac/Biggie
murders. Def Jam probably muted Solo's name out...

Not really a question of what are they saying, but why was it pre-censored? Did this get radio/video play? I only remember Therapy, Leflaur Laflah Eshkoshka, and Operation Lock Down (and all those were censored/edited different from the original for public play). This would have made pre-censoring for the retail version unnecessary.

During the 2nd verse he says "I'm a Uptown Stunna, what the hell you think?/Ready for war but I ain't no (lyrics reversed). Sounds like he said "I ain't no soldier of no gotdamn tank" being that's when Cashmoney & No Limit were beefing heavy of Master P stealing "Hot Boys" from them, which from a Mannie Fresh interview, stemmed from Master P stealing "I'm Bout It" from an early Cash Money song & ran w/it when he came back from Richmond,CA.

"You couldn't fuck around the Ra with an army"

It was heard on the 12" remix, but not on the album version. I can understand the single/video mixes, but the album? It was also censored on the acapella mix, so one wasn't able to drop the "fuck" inside of the mix and make a custom edit.
