2619656, Rap Acts who's best album is a tiebreaker....let's see what y'all pick
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Tue Oct-25-11 04:31 PM
There are a lot of artists out there who seem to have a tiebreaker, sometimes even in three ways, for what their best album is...so I wanted to see what y'all would pick for some of them. I'll list a few, but I'm sure it's a lot more than y'all can mention.

Just post the artist and albums as the 1st reply, and the votes will follow from there.

i think RD is showing off skill and def. combines that w/ some of my favorite Jay-Z songs.. but Blueprint is more complete, flows better and an overall better "experience".. even the bonus tracks feel like they're a part of the album.. like an encore..

While the Minstrel Show was good I get a feeling of the expectations of being on a major weighing on that album...

I lean more towards The Listening because it sounded more off the cuff, less structured, whatever we felt like doing, carefree..

I think 2001 had slightly better singles (save G Thang) but The Chronic was the better overall album by a looooooooong shot IMO. 2001 fell off TOO hard in the second half. The Chronic's first half was also stronger than it's second half, but I'll still take Lyrical Gangbang, Stranded on Death Row and Bitches Ain't Shit over Bitch N*ggas, Murder Ink and Ackrite by far.

since it seems like a lot of people love MBDPF, which I don't really care for.

My list is like:

Graduation
Late Registration
College Dropout
My Beautiful Dark Pretentious Fantasy

kanye is definitely one of those artists that it seems no one can agree which of his albums is his best. up until a year ago College Dropout was my favorite, then LR and MBDTF leapfrogged it.
2620294, Yep. Speaks volumes about him as an artist.
Posted by Brew, Wed Oct-26-11 02:43 PM
He's made music for literally everybody while never really alienating his initial fan base. It's kind of unreal.

!!!
2619990, 36 Chambers, just because it's not a double album..BUT
Posted by Brew, Wed Oct-26-11 08:11 AM
That said, I think Forever is the strongest hiphop double album there is, and I think the reason is because there's 9 MCs so they don't even really have ROOM for filler on a double album, whereas a solo MC has trouble filling in two CDs.

But 36 Chambers takes it just becaue double albums are tedious regardless of how many MCs or how much filler is on them.

My ratings of these three are:

1. Train of Thought

2. BlackStar
3. Black on Both Sides

Love all three, but TOT is one of my favorite albums ever so it's got a space between it and the others.
2619996, Tough, but I think BOBS edges out TOT
