2596018, Most evenly balanced duo in Hip Hop?
Posted by k_orr, Fri Sep-02-11 11:42 AM
Most people agree that Tip outshines Phife.
Nearly evern knows that Buckshot eclipsed 5 foot.

Although a bunch of you contrarian ass negroes will Big Boi over Dre, it's a pretty established fact that 3 stacks is the main draw.

Any duo/group out there (past or present, one off or continuous) that is pretty even?

8 ball and MJG?
Bun and Pimp?
Sadat and Lord Jamar?

Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Fri Sep-02-11 11:59 AM
at least when they put the album out
now I think Mos is ahead of him for the most
I started to post EPMD but I think P has widened the gap between them over the years
2596983, I like this answer.
Posted by PCProductions, Sun Sep-04-11 10:24 PM
It's a particularly good example because of how great they both are. One could easily cite terrible rap groups as they may be evenly as bad as each other (ICP, etc). But these guys were both of the same level in '98. I also agree that Mos is ahead of Kweli, at least on the level of being much more interesting a rapper, as well as progressive.

Only other good example that comes to mind would be Nas + AZ, but that doesn't feel like a true duo in the sense of what we're looking for here.
2596033, I found Skyzoo & Torae equally gifted, altho I guess they werent officially a duo!
Posted by _Torchbaras, Fri Sep-02-11 12:01 PM

I think Big Boi is just criminally underrated, but I think he's very close to Andre in terms of skill. One wouldn't have had that level of success without the other.

they may have different approaches, but skill-wise, dre and big boi are even. i know everybody loves 3stacks to death, and i'm not out of that circle, but outkast IS balance.

I think Fame has funnier/more memorable lines a lot of time, but skill-wise I'd say he and Danze are pretty even.

...And just for the record, I really hate that no apostrophe s thing. There's no verb in that sentence up top. I hate that Hip Hop does that shit and spreads it to the kids. We need to learn how to talk, for real. I know I'ma get clowned for that, but it's something I feel passionate about.
2596697, you're blaming hip hop for that?
Posted by MISTA MONOTONE, Sun Sep-04-11 02:57 AM
>I hate that
>Hip Hop does that shit and spreads it to the kids.

black people have been talking like that for years prior to hip hop's existence.

>We need to
>learn how to talk, for real.

i don't necessarily disagree.

>I know I'ma get clowned for
>that, but it's something I feel passionate about.

not that isn't a worthy cause, but it's an uphill battle.
2596934, I don't blame Hip Hop for creating it
Posted by Options, Sun Sep-04-11 06:33 PM
only for perpetuating it. It's definitely an uphill battle, though.

deac has a little more versatility with flows and harmonies and natti is a little better lyrically, but i think they are pretty even on some pimp (versatility) and bun (lyrical) steez.

I know no one cares about them and they only made one album that anyone semi-cared about (Realmz and Reality) and that no one really checked for the 2nd, but yeah

They were equal straight down the line
One never stood out more than the other for any reason really
That is just really who I thought of

Is there a requirement for a certain group to qualify
Relevancy or anything ?

Posted by zuma1986, Fri Sep-02-11 05:30 PM
Maybe some might say Ghostface had the edge but I definitely thought it was pretty close.
2596255, if you wrote their raps down
Posted by bills, Fri Sep-02-11 06:57 PM
they'd prolly look about the same...even though Ghost uses a bit more comedy and nonsense.
I even think Nas is real similar to them, too...
but Ghost's voice and delivery is what puts him ahead of Rae to me.
(at least, he WAS ahead...now I'd take Rae over Ghost...and it pains me to say that, because Supreme Clientele has to be one of my 3 favorite albums ever)
2596282, Yeah I definitely think Rae has pulled ahead of Ghostface recently
Posted by zuma1986, Fri Sep-02-11 08:07 PM
Even though Ghostface really brought it on OB4TCL2 (His verses on "New Wu" & "Cold Outside" are some of favorite), Rae just seems to be hungrier then he's ever been. I don't what woke him up from his slump but thank god for it. Ghostface still has some truly amazing moments recently but not as consistent as he used to be.
