2579351, I brought it up because I think both are underrated on those instruments Posted by OldPro, Fri Jul-29-11 12:29 PM
I would also agree Stevie's drumming >>> P's Bass playing... but not by a very wide margin. Watching P stand toe to toe with Larry Graham and hold his own really gave me a new respect for the way P handles the bass.
>Maybe it's just me because I'm not as deep into Prince as some >other folks, but I can't recognize Prince's "voice" on any >particular instrument...
I think Prince has a voice on rhythm guitar... I'd say lead too but I really don't want to open that box right now. And while I know it's a little different I'd say Prince showed a "voice" on the Linn... so much so that those patterns are universally heard as his.
>And that's (one of the reasons) why I'll always rank Stevie >far above Prince even though it seems fashionable these days >to give P the crown because he plays more instruments and has >displayed a wider stylistic range. I think Stevie *inhabits* >his sound a lot more deeply than P does.
I love both so I'll leave this be.... but most people already know where I stand on this.
