Missing Link closed?????

I have one great memory of that spot... I took 15 there the day after the Roots played The Vogue in '01. Called Dilla from the store saying how much he needed to come down and check it out. The basement hadn't opened up yet, but he snuck down there and looked around for like 5 minutes.

Ended up buying 5 or 6 boxes of records.

Fast forward 8 months later, i get a voicemail from 15...

"Hahahaha... I just gave Missing Link a colonic. I CLEANED THE SHIT OUT OF THAT STORE!!!!"

again fast forward a few months later, i get an email from Ben Kenney (who had just joined Incubus at that point) asking me for the address for the store.

later on ?uesto tells me that store was responsible for some of the crazier moments on "Electric Circus."

But why hype something up before it drops? I mean I don't understand why you'd do this with any artist but with someone as inactive as D has been I fail to see the upside in this. It's just giving the anti-D crowd a head start... either it never comes out or it does and can't possibly live up to the hype.... it's just a likely fail either way.

Big ups to BB for this post. D'Angelo unfortunately is such a touchy subject here because of expectations and constant hearsay over his long-in-the-making album. For the real D'Angelo heads, we know he's gonna bring it..without question. Though it's probably best not to keep this a constant discussion until we hear from the man himself because all it does is draw skepticism and "whatever else" from a lot of people here on these boards. Even when he does finally drop, a lot of cats are gonna hate and criticize..(like they're known to do here). But all the real heads are gonna rejoice (God-willing) once the new project finally comes into fruition. As long as we keep putting that positive energy out there into the universe for Brother Michael Archer to bring it, he's definitely gonna bring it.

Thanks again to BB for this post. :-)

haha true, but this seems like actual looping of samples AND the vocals are far from interesting which i can't say of most of the stuff on 'voodoo'. also, the lyrics -when audible- are kind of silly, where i'd say at least they tried harder for 'voodoo'...

that said, this is just a demo and we shouldn't judge it as a finished track. i just don't think there's a whole lot in there that could turn it into a proper song... or should i say "jam"?

Wasn't meant as a slight. That's just the first thing I think about when I think of Q-Tip. And there's definitely no need for him to be SINGING on a D'Angelo record. Once again, no slight.

And even production wise I don't think I see where that would go.

Posted by betelgeuse, Sat Oct-01-11 04:05 PM
Anyone have the complete transcript of this interview?

At one point someone from the crowd asks if D'Angelo will ever release any new music. Quest explains D's slowly but surely working on the follow up to 'Voodoo', being 'James River'. He shares some album insights:

- Why the album is named 'James River'.
- Mentions D plays guitar as good as he sings.
