It was suppose to intentionally be a comedy (Not in a it's so bad it's good way), he's talked about it in interviews ( http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2007/11/r_kelly_answers_our_questions.html ) and really I can't see anything that would lead me to think it was serious (The old man he plays, midget lovers, him constantly just showing up smoking and winking in the camera).
