I have a problem with the people/critics who set the criteria for what is great song writing..

Black musicians living in desperate times are trying to reach people and speak to directly to their people.. And convey thier feelings to the world.

There ain't much call for ambiguity under these circumstances...

Black musicians often had a knack for speaking very directly but yet having the ability to offer you a new viewpoint/perspective. That's an art in itself..

Curtis Mayfield often spoke in simple language, but can't anybody on earth suggest to me that brother didn't have complexity or depth..

I'm a big fan of Dylan/Joni Mitchell etc but lets not assume because you can't understand what an artist is saying automatically makes it of a higher intellect..
