The bass-playing Los Angeles native Stephen Bruner, who records as Thundercat, has had a truly varied career. He's done session and tour work for people like Snoop Dogg and Eric Benet, he's been a member of a boy band that scored a hit in Germany, and he's played with mookish hardcore legends Suicidal Tendencies. (Actually, he's still a member of Suicidal Tendencies.) Last year, Thundercat contributed to Cosmogramma, the spaced-out bass music masterwork from Flying Lotus. And on August 30, FlyLo's Brainfeeder label will release Thundercat's solo album The Golden Age of Apocalypse-- produced entirely by FlyLo.

Erykah Badu contributes to the album, as do members of SA-RA Creative Partners and J*Davey, pianist Austin Peralta, and Thundercat's drummer brother Ronald Bruner, Jr. One of the album's tracks, a cover of George Duke's "For Love I Come", recently ended up in our Best New Tracks section. Another, "Daylight", is above. We've got the album's tracklist below. And Thundercat also has a few shows coming up with FlyLo, so we've got those listed out as well.

what a talented family.

I'm catching this talented trio (Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Austin Peralta) at the Hollywood show. Looking forward to it.

Show was SO SICK! 420 hash brownie had me in outer space with all that psychotic bass that just went right through the body. Amazing show. Despite that douchebag blocking the way every 10 minutes taking pictures and the stupid drunk short girl up in the from cutting in front of people every 10 minutes, it was one of the best concerts I've attended in my life, thus far.

Plus I got to meet FlyLo and Thundercat! I'm still in excited mode as you can probably tell.

I felt the same as some of the posters above at first thinking it was all too similar, too much overplaying. But damn now I can't stop playing it. Definitely one that gets better with each spin. Although it wasn't what I expected at all, I was expecting more jazz-influenced things along the line of Mmmhmm and For Love I Come but it plays more like a more experimental Dam-Funk. One of the albums of the year for sure.

probably the best lp for me but it was nice to enjoy a chilled out listening event of an lp rather than a cd with 4 out of 12 good tracks

The album should've been better, though.

While the Grimm Reality wasn't as good as I anticipated, it has an edge on this album.
