and yet this is still a surprise and a most welcome one!
2505045, RE: there'd been word of them recording a new album
Posted by IceburgSmurf, Mon Feb-14-11 06:20 AM
This is the first time since the bends that i haven't heard any of the songs before the album comes out. Its kind of an old school thing but i like hearing an album in its entirety the first time start to finish.

That said i imagine every website will be looking for live versions of songs to post as tracklistings

i always played the live versions of the songs long before the album came out but would wait until the official release before hearing the studio album. since nothing more recent than "karma police" gets played on the radio anymore here, it's easy to avoid hearing their singles.

anyway, what is the site? i'll click at home but was curious now.

also, to the above, what is wrong with arcade fire? granted, they're no radiohead, and the whole topic about 'neon bible' being the best album since 'ok computer' was a horrible joke, but they're good, too, and deserve recognition. i guess i've come around on them since rock music sucks so bad right now.

I don't understand the comparisons between arcade fire and radiohead to me at this stage of the game they are as incongruous as the radiohead-muse comparisons people still make. I think it may just be a mistaken identity thing. in the sense that they are two of the 'biggest' acts within this difficult to categorise subgenre of "indie rock" I liked the first and the last AF albums a lot but don't really equate them with RH or understand the 'radiohead-lite' label thats being pushed in the GD post. If anything i think that just shows the original posters inability to differentiate the two.

My biggest disapointment with pre hearing radiohead music was hearing drunken punch up at a wedding live before the studio version. The version i had was low quality and had a fuzz to it that gave the song more "umpf". They generally do a good job with studio versions.

The bootleggers are gonna be on doubletime between now and saturday to get find some illegitamate versions to release.

nevermind

>I don't understand the comparisons between arcade fire and
>radiohead

"smart rock"... eh, i don't really get it either, but it's better than the one that made me kinda dislike arcade fire at first. someone described them to me as being like godspeed you! black emperor, who i loved, so when i played 'funeral' i was disappointed and answered back, "it's just a rock album."

>to me at this stage of the game they are as
>incongruous as the radiohead-muse comparisons people still

yeah, those comparisons and the one to coldplay are definitely missing the boat at this point

>or understand the 'radiohead-lite' label thats

GD is nonstop ignorance so there's little beyond that to understand

my biggest one was the live versions of "i might be wrong" in the year leading up to 'amnesiac.' on hearing the studio version of the song, i hated it and still do. they ruined what was one of their best songs IMO. it also took me a few listens to get into "motion picture soundtrack" on "'a dik' backwards" because i was married to the acoustic version from 4 years earlier. i thought they nailed "how to disappear completely," which made me happy because it was my 1st or 2nd favorite unreleased song w/ "true love waits."

agreed on all of this except i still struggle to get motion picture soundtrack. On rare occasions when listening to the album it clicks but mostly i still skip it. I'll get there one day!

i love it now and rarely ever play the old live recordings. i like the big church organ sound of the album version and find it and the outro to be a perfect ending to one of my favorite albums.

speaking of that band they're so much alike, the "my body is cage" song (may not be actual title) was one of my favorites on 'neon bible' for similar reasons, especially the organ.

you would need to encode the wav files to mp3 or another compatible (lossy) format, which would defeat the point, so you're better off with the 320 kbps mp3 option
2505223, thanks! that's all i needed to know

2505218, .wav file is the file type on CDs.
Posted by Steve O Tron v2, Mon Feb-14-11 01:10 PM
so you're getting the raw file along with it's huge size.

if you're savvy with transcoding, which I'm assuming you're not, you can convert the file to lossless formats like .FLAC (not iPod compatible) or lossy formats like .mp3, ALAC, etc.

I don't quite agree with Radiohead charging different prices for lossless and lossy formats, but whatever.

like howisya suggested, you're probably better off going with the 320kbps version, as I doubt anyone can really tell the difference (inb4 controversy).
2505224, thanks my man

it would depend on the quality of the wav files and the system on which they're played. since it doesn't say, for all we know, these could be the highest possible wav files of enormous size. what you said before is only partially true. artists have been selling/otherwise providing wav files higher than the 44-kHz sampling rate of audio cd for a while now. hypothetically--and i know radiohead is NOT the kind of band who would actually do this--if these were the highest quality wav, and you had a good system, you would hear the difference.

otherwise, 44-kHz 320 kbps mp3 vs. wav is an old argument best not rehashed.
2514877, RE: .wav file is the file type on CDs.

also, if you want the .wav and want to convert it to have a compatible copy for an ipod, you can even do that in itunes.

2505243, I like the way they are releasing it.
Posted by good5, Mon Feb-14-11 01:47 PM
Everybody gets the album at the same time at high quality, then the actual record arrives a couple months later so that people have a reason to re-listen to the album. These are both good steps to promote actual deep listening.
2505244, There is absolutely no reason to release an album in wav.

same audio quality as WAV but smaller file sizes. It would save them a ton of money and it wouldn't annoy audiophiles as much.

Wanna export in a universal lossless format in your average music production software? That's gonna be a wave.
2505370, it takes less than 5 minutes to convert wav to flac
Posted by Nopayne, Mon Feb-14-11 05:50 PM
90% of the people that want lossless will just end up doing it anyway so Radiohead might as well do it for them.

plus it's cheaper to distribute flac. Those wav files are gonna be huge.
2505665, It's mostly about the public
Posted by imcvspl, Tue Feb-15-11 11:04 AM
The public has not been educated on FLAC and unfortunately Radiohead has chosen to conform to public knowledge rather than school them. To most WAV = REALLY REALLY GOOD!!!

Anywhere from: The Greatest Album Of All Time to Hail To The Thief.

Without having heard a single snippet of a single song nor having seen even a tracklist— holy shit I'm so excited.

This feels just like when In Rainbows came out.

I had no idea what to expect. I ended up getting an album that contained my favorite song of all time: All I Need, yet an album that I don't really enjoy as an 'album.'

This time around, I don't expect to have a new favorite song, but I do hope for and expect a Coherent Radiohead Album.

I expect a new Amnesiac. I don't expect it to revolutionize, but I do expect it to be solid. But who knows?! I'm so excited!

We know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about this album. No idea on the tracklisting/length, no idea of the sound of this album...yet, I gave them $48 yesterday, and I don't regret it for a second.

One of the coolest things that they've done these last 2 albums is having everyone outside of Radiohead listen to the album for the first time at the same time. It's just an epic shared moment that we are going to experience late Friday night/Saturday morning when we all can listen to something so huge without preconceived notions clouding our judgment.

The actual physical release is March 28th. Newspaper thing is May. I'd expect streams/downloads of the album instantaenously on release...You'll be good.

Three of my top 10 albums of all-time are Kid A, OK Computer and In Rainbows. So yeah, I'm probably a bit more excited than most about this weekend.

>
>I think you've explained this before, but I totally forgot,
>bro.

yeah, i've explained, but it's been so long that i'm starting to forget as well. the easy explanation is that, like everyone else, i went to the site to download it on day of release, but for some reason it didn't work for me. was it an emailed link? if so, i waited for the link to come, but it never did. maybe it was an instant download. either way, nothing happened. eventually i came back and retried it, but by then everyone was raving over how great it was, so my view was clouded before listening, and i was set up to be disappointed by it not living up to the hype. i burned the low-quality 160 kbps mp3's to cd-r but never ended up even playing it. the album came out physically, i bought it immediately, but i guess i was still put off by the hype and the fumbled delivery. i also have a thing about reading along with the lyric booklet the first time i play an album i buy, so sometimes it's a while before i have time to really devote like that. mostly it was the hype factor. i eventually listened shortly before i saw them live, which was another disastrous experience. every time i saw or tried to see radiohead live something bad happened except for the last time i saw them, which was at lollapalooza. that's another story (or several) for another time.

the even harder to articulate reason is that even though radiohead is my favorite band and OKC my favorite album, i've been drifting away from them and their music for a long time. their music is an anomaly in what i listen to usually these days, and as a band they just don't excite me like they used to. IR has a sort of adult contemporary feel and sound to it that isn't very inspiring, as great as the songwriting is, as consistent as the sequencing and overall album are, and as talented as radiohead (and nigel) remain. i'd be pleasantly shocked if this album (i haven't even committed the title to memory yet) hits me like their 2nd through 5th did and usually still do on the rare occasion i play them. still, i'll always check for everything they do, and to quote a song they've covered, "nobody does it better."

2506189, RE: Cool. Interesting explanation.
Posted by howisya, Wed Feb-16-11 08:46 AM
>A bit weird

more than a bit, but all true

i think i was also put off by the vagueness of whether it was coming out physically... since radiohead is an automatic purchase band to me, i think part of me wanted to wait until i could hear the album in perfect quality and with all the normal artwork and liner notes, but they made it seem like IR might not come out that way. i don't download/"preview" automatic purchases because i don't see the point. i might this time just because i don't want to have a bunch of other people's opinions in my head before i listen to it.
2507131, do you think your lack of enchantment w/ Radiohead
Posted by forgivenphoenix, Thu Feb-17-11 05:54 PM
is the 'samey'-ness of their songs? I'm not saying I am thinking the same as you are (unless you uploaded your voice into my head), but really they've been making the same 'off-kilter' music since The Bends and while they peaked creatively at OK Computer / Kid A / Amnesiac, and those albums sounded fresh and innovative, they kinda, at least to me, are having an effect where they're all running together.

or do songs like Nude and All I Need just 'drone' to you?

but then again they're in they're 40's and have been making really good music for about 20 years. i'm just spoiled is all.
2507140, hmm
Posted by howisya, Thu Feb-17-11 06:23 PM
i'm not sure i thought of it in terms of sameiness, but their last 2 albums and 'the eraser' do run together a little bit too well for my tastes, but not the albums themselves sounding the same (like stereolab), not even 'kid a' and 'amnesiac,' which were drawn from the same sessions.

>or do songs like Nude and All I Need just 'drone' to you?

"nude" is one of those unreleased songs i loved for years before they finally released it, but i like the dubbiness of the recording and of "all i need." i wouldn't say they drone. there is a sterility to the album IMO. as much as i'm a fan of nigel, i was a little disappointed when they ditched the sessions with mark "spike" stent to redo the album w/ nigel since i thought a new producer might liven up their sound, and i bet nigel produced this new album, too. he's definitely their george martin.

>but then again they're in they're 40's and have been making
>really good music for about 20 years.

most of my favorite artists outside of hip-hop are 40+ now and still making vital but perhaps not their best music

As in, will the newspaper edition have an extra disc like IR? Cause I'll gladly buy the NE for the extra disc instead of waiting and buying a $35 import of extras.

The extra IR disc justified my purchase of the special edition thing. I mean, the vinyl I got with it will likely never be played. The large booklet was cool to look at, but it's not like I've peeped it in the past, say, year. If not longer.

Now let me stop being Debbie Downer (waaaaaaaah waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah) and say that I can't wait to hear the album!

Posted by howisya, Fri Feb-18-11 08:26 AM
when i checked the thread this morning and saw that the album was available early i stopped reading immediately, downloaded it, and started listening so as to avoid my experience with IR and a lot of other albums

and now i'll write my thoughts after finishing my 1st listen

i like it, and i respect that they made and released an album that wasn't as poppy as last time or a grand statement like several other albums... i think this band has earned the right to do that, and this sort of does sound like what rock bands make 20 years into their careers, and it feels really sincere

this album is worth the $10 or so it'll cost when released and not much more than that IMO, but maybe the people who spend $30+ will weeelly weeelly wuv it

i'm also glad i didn't listen to any of the atoms for peace or recent solo concerts... one time i watched one video of thom performing one song, 2 years ago, and it didn't even make the album, so not only were 7 songs new to me (i didn't expect "morning mr. magpie" to resurface, but it sounds good), but also i have those live shows to enjoy now... i didn't even consciously plan to save all the new songs for the album, but i guess i was so bored with radiohead in the last couple years that i didn't care enough to listen, unlike going into 'kid a' all the way through IR, where i knew the songs in advance

now i'll see what the rest of you are saying... i'm sure we're all fans here, but i don't see this album being an "OKP" hit like IR
2507382, you didn't talk about the *sound* though
Posted by imcvspl, Fri Feb-18-11 08:32 AM
I've just heard the video and the first song and immediately thought, this is the *sound* i wanted to hear on IR. It's interesting you point out rock 20 years into their career, because ultimately I think that's what I want as a listener. Looking forward to hearing the rest and I'll be back.

Oh and congrats on listening without the hype and staying on the curve!!

on one hand, it sounded like they found a niche for themselves and are digging new territory, on the other, it sounds like they do heavily listen to current music and have found a comfortable medium between freak folk and hauntology, as much as i hate to type those words, because it has some trendy spooky aesthetics but less coy/ironic songwriting and clearer vocals (although still muddier than on most/all other radiohead albums)... it actually sounds like a band that listens to neil young AND burial

I just don't think it's possible at this point.

*typed while "Little By Little" was on repeat*
2507386, I really like what I heard on first listen, but...
Posted by okaycomputer, Fri Feb-18-11 08:38 AM
I can't help be disappointed at 37 minutes worth of material. I don't know if that's fair or not, but it is extremely disappointing.

I've only given it one listen through and it was while hiding in my office at work, listening through crap speakers.

My strongest initial impression is that the sequencing, flow, build-up...call it what you will...is fantastic. The progression from dreary Bloom to the unusually light and airy Separator is just awesome.

Overall I'm very happy with what I've heard, but not too thrilled that I paid $48 for this. I guess if I'm going to overpay for anything music related I'm happy that it goes to Radiohead. Plus I still haven't seen what's going to show up in the mail come May.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to taking the back roads home tonight and getting a better listen.

When i first listened this album i had to adjust my expectations after the first song, Bloom. I had the same experience when I listened to The Roots' How I Got Over. I thought both bands were going to deliver a certain tone/energy and they had another game plan.

This is a solid album. Parts of it feel like a jazz record to be honest. I wish Thome had changed up his vocal delivery on this album so that the record didn't recall some of his solo work. The other guys in the band work so hard to change up their sound and here he comes holding vowels again!

I love the groove (bass) of the first part of the album, the second half the album has more heart and all together this album progresses well.

well done.

Fav songs:

Bloom - a fine intro for the album, it sets up everything perfectly
Little By Little - Classic

Lotus Flower - Classic, Another one!

Separator - Reminds me of In Rainbows. Funny that by the time this song comes in you understand that everything before it was a new sound and this is what a regular Radiohead song used to song like.

Feral - Radiohead dub step, finally an instrumental on a Radiohead that doesn't totally stop the momentum of the album, i'm all for that.

Radiohead Album Ranking based on a few hours of listening to the new album:

OK Computer
Kid A
In Rainbows
The King of Limbs
Hail to the Thief
The Bends
Amnesiac
Pablo Honey

2507637, my thoughts after one listen...
Posted by al_sharp, Fri Feb-18-11 04:16 PM
i didn't think it was possible but they've managed to baffle me again.

this shit is weird. like weirder than they've ever been. it's like if 'the eraser' had babies with 'amnesiac''s b-sides.

not for the average listener. definitely not for the average listener.

there's so much going on here. so much confusion. drum patterns come and go where they damn well please. voices fade in and out of the left side and the right side of the headphones at random. things groove then they don't groove. then they do things i can't wrap my head around. then as soon as i think i've got it, they rip the rug out from underneath me and do something else. every song is like its own little acid trip. hell, i've had ACTUAL acid trips that've made more sense than some of these songs.

thom is speaking "thom" more than ever. i'll be damned if i can make out half of wtf he's saying.

everything made me feel very very uneasy...and then "lotus flower" came on and ripped me apart. made me break down and cry. like hard too. then things got a little easier. not much tho.

their songs have always taken a few listens to completely digest and understand...but i have a feeling these are gonna take more digestion than usual.

they really are on their own fucking planet. like seriously fuck you if you think you have expectations of what something's gonna sound like at this point. they don't give a fuck. you're on planet radiohead. it's a very strange place.

i really don't know how they've stumped me again. it's crazy.

i said the other day half-jokingly "they could fart into a mic for 38 minutes and not only would i love it but i'd prolly try to convince you it was the album of the year." oddly enough i got the running time exactly right. and wouldn't you know it...they're farting into the mic the whole time...daring you to smell it...then smell it again...and keep smelling it until you know exactly what it is they had for breakfast.

i'm gonna press play again and see what happens.

2507638, My first listen:
Posted by denny, Fri Feb-18-11 04:17 PM
Definitely not as accessible as IR and a lot less rocknroll.

I was a little distracted when listening but here's some random observations:

The bass playing is pretty thoughtful, original and ambitious.

Not as angsty as other Radiohead. Lighter and more optimistic.

Seems to be a 'bird' motif repeating throughout the album which i guess is related to the album title. I didn't listen to any of the lyrics though.

No overdrive or distortion that I can remember on ANYTHING which is strange for them.

I don't like alot of the rhythms but have always had this critique for Radiohead. No swing and the drums/percussion are always out ahead....pushing the song. Nothhing new there though.

Fave tune was 'little by little'. Sounds like an extension of 'Reckoner'...especially the homemade sounding percussion.

Looking forward to another listen this eve.

i don't think this is throwing a stake in the ground like OK Computer or Kid A.. but like In Rainbows, this seems like "Radiohead after the dust settles".. and not in a bad way at all, there's just a comfortable feel to it.. it's like they went into "cruise control," but after hitting 120mph.. digging the hell out of this album.
2507816, It's way more of a "mood" piece than In Rainbows

I'm more excited about the new Pj Harvey.

I listened to it twice now and then revisited In Rainbows. I'm guessing that Thom took a stranglehold on this one cause it's just not taking root with me.

I like 3 songs but I'm guessing this one WONT have staying power. They're reputation is doing them favors for this one. It's like people don't wanna admit that half of the album is boring. There are some interesting production techniques....voices turning into sounds, sounds turning into voices. But I don't really like all the experimentation in rhythm they're doing here.

I get it....the tension built up by shit that's out of time. Slowly becoming 'in time' and then straying off again. Maybe it's 'supposed' to give you a headache. The drum programming is not well-executed imo and that's the biggest flaw to me.

But a couple of gems too.

A couple other people here said it sounds like an extension of Thom's horrible solo album and I'd agree. It's better...but only where it doesn't bear as much resemblance to the 'eraser' or whatever it's called.
2507906, "an extension of Thom's horrible solo album and I'd agree"?

I was underwhelmed as well

Radiohead gets a pass and I don't know why. They are one of these "IN" bands that you have to be on some intellectually elevated dimension to get sometimes (I'm guessing, because I don't get it). They've been critical darlings for decades. I've bought my fair share of albums that never really clicked for me and gave up on them. Then I heard In Rainbows. Wow. It was perfect, for me anyway. I love this record. So now I'm sucked in and back to buying albums that just don't click for me...

I downloaded the album and listened to it over the weekend. Albums get the big stereo treatment. Nothing really grabbed me. It just kind of played. So I played it again...still nothing. I will give it the headphone treatment and the ride treatment next, but so far = eh

So I got the chance to spend some time with the CD on a recent road trip. I'm still underwhelmed. Nothing really grabs me.

Overdubbed mumbling lyrics...Is there even a song on this album?

Studio tricks and production techniques in place of a band?

They got me with In Rainbows, and I revisited that album...WOW. The song writing and muscial compositions are incredible and impossible to deny. This album is eh, not even meh, just eh

if you look at the format of the album (though it sounds a lot different).

"Give Up the Ghost" is my favorite of the moment. It's really just beautiful. :)))
2514203, I think they took a cue from Grizzly Bear with Give Up the Ghost
Posted by dunk, Sun Feb-20-11 06:33 PM
J. Greenwood mention how they're his favorite band the harmonies "don't let me" sounds like something from a grizzly bear sound, but its still very much Radiohead.

in general, i love that song.

Just downloaded and listening now.

This is tense, highly rhythmic, labyrinthine, paranoid music.

Very druggy.

Not very many corridors of lightness to be found here.

Maybe it's because of where I'm at in my life right now, but it makes me feel like nothing will ever get better. Like I'm stuck. Almost like mental prison.

Jesus christ, just the tone of this music is unspeakably bleak.

For all of its complex rhythms, densely buried melodies and paranoia, it's actually very calm. Like restrained doom.

As far as specifics:

This is Thom's best vocal performance ever. Who would have guessed that the guy would've developed into such a wonderful soprano crooner? Truly, on songs like Lotus Flower and Codex, his voice sounds downright gorgeous.

Rhythms and polyrhythms EVERYWHERE. The whole initial shock of this thing mostly rests on just how complex the time signatures are.

38 minutes and mission accomplished. Fuckin' a.

Codex --> Give Up the Ghost = I cried. I did.

I'm a little surprised that These Are My Twisted Words didn't show up. Granted, the song is over a year old by this point, but it would've sounded awesome coming right after Feral.

After spending a half an hour wallowing away in pure gloom, Separator is quite possibly the prettiest thing they've ever done. Makes me think of the Durutti Column. Fantastic.

Overall, I'm not speechless, but I'm am quite certainly in total awe. Two listens and I like it better than half of their catalogue. In fact, right now, I'd say the only things topping it are Kid A and Amnesiac.

Too early to give any sort of score, but sweet merciful crap is it good.

~Austin
2514325, you're clearly not speechless!

2514462, my thoughts after a whole bunch of listens...
Posted by al_sharp, Mon Feb-21-11 12:05 PM
it's amazing how the songs flesh themselves out after you hear them a handful of times. especially songs like "bloom" and "little by little" that seemed so damn confusing at first. they're not confusing anymore. i even bob my head now where my head had no fucking idea how to bob at first. lol.

the first four tracks almost make me feel like they've become some garage band just jammin out for the hell of it. you can tell they're having a whole lot of fun. the second half of the album is just amazing. flawless even. "lotus flower" is thom's best vocal performance in years. "codex" is one of the most beautiful things they've ever done. reminds me of "sail to the moon" kinda. "give up the ghost" is so haunting it kills me. and "separator" is the perfect way to close this album. so perfect.

"little by little" is the only song in the whole bunch that i'm not crazy about. maybe cos it seems like thom just sorta phoned it in on that one. other than that, i'm in love with this album just like i've been in love with everything else they've done.

all in all, it's indeed a worthy addition to their catalog. no idea where i'd rank it but i stopped tryin to rank their stuff years ago. each album holds a special place in my heart and i'm just fine with that.

can't wait to hear/see what comes next.

it just seems paint-by-numbers radiohead to me

>all in all, it's indeed a worthy addition to their catalog. no
>idea where i'd rank it

i agree it's worthy but would probably put it at the bottom after 3 listens but still better than most music out there

>can't wait to hear/see what comes next.

me, too, as it sounds like they've found a groove as a band with this album

Bloom grabbed me from the first listen.. replayed it a few times like "daaaaamn" before playing the rest of the album. Seperator is another stand out track, have replayed that a bunch of times too, probably my favorite so far.

Was gonna take a lil 2c-e for the journey but punked out when I heard the tone of the album and saw its only 30 min ha.

I'll be playing this for a while.
2514511, "Little by Little" is probably my favorite
Posted by woe.is.me., Mon Feb-21-11 01:20 PM
and i think that may be because imo its the only song that harkens back to more classic radiohead (guitars + crooning). It sounds like it could have been on HTTT or earlier.

there a few skippers on here
but it is definitely a grower.
i probably listened to it 10 times this weekend while working.
2514534, Interesting Believer article excerpt from 2009
Posted by okaycomputer, Mon Feb-21-11 01:59 PM
In the midst of the will there/won't there be a KoL part II this weekend I remembered that Thom had talked about a series of EPs rather than sticking with the long form album format.

Here's an excerpt (link at the end):
BELIEVER: I’ve heard you talk a lot about singles and EPs. Is that what you’ve been moving toward?

TY: I’ve got this running joke: Mr. Tanaka runs this magazine in Japan. He always says to me, “EPs next time?” And I say yes and go off on one, and he says, “Bullshit.” But I think really, this time, it could work. It’s part of the physical-release plan I was talking about earlier. None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off. I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us.

http://www.greenplastic.com/2009/08/10/more-from-the-thom-yorke-interview-with-the-believer/
...............

Granted that was a year and a half ago and right before Twisted Words came out, but some of that sentiment may have stuck with them. I'm not expecting any extra music at this point. But if that means we don't have to wait 4 years for the next one (wishful thinking) I'll take it.

I've completely gotten over the length thing at this point. If they continue to do short mood pieces like this, we could be in for some crazy shit down the road.

...but for now I'm just going to enjoy listening to the new stuff, because it is fucking great.
2514539, one more excerpt from that article...
Posted by okaycomputer, Mon Feb-21-11 02:11 PM
THE BELIEVER:…This isn’t the end of Radiohead album art as we know it?

TY: No, we’ve actually got a good plan, but I can’t tell you what it is, because someone will rip it off. But we’ve got this great idea for putting things out.

THE BELIEVER: In a digital realm?

TY: In a physical realm and a digital realm. But, yeah.. no, I can’t tell you what it is. Sorry to be so vague about everything.

..........

y'know, I just said that I wasn't expecting extra music, but now I'm thinking there is more to come. I'd speculate something is coming after the May "Newspaper" shipments. Instead of secret music that comes with what we've paid for, I'm thinking additional future purchases will add on and somehow fit into the "newspaper" we get in May.

Alright, now I'm just driving myself crazy. I'll stop.
2514907, Maybe I'm crazy, but I really like "Bloom"
Posted by prophet j, Tue Feb-22-11 10:30 AM
And I promise I'm not one of those die-had Radiohead fans that praises everything they do, regardless if it's just banging on pots and pans.

Love how it at first sounds like it's going to be a clusterfuck and turns into a song. Love the chord hit on the tremolo/Rhodesy sounding keyboard. Love the cluttered beat. Love all the layers that appear throughout the course of the 5:14. The orchestra samples remind me of post-Rubber Soul Beatles for a second too. Great start to the album.

"My bucks, must I go out on a limb here and say more is revealing at Ελληνική οδός? That man: ims menooo! Juicy pre-watching. Beware you not!"
