Volume 2 finds us chin-deep in some of the flyest Island Funk to come from the Caribbean from the 60s and 70s. The musical influences of the area are widespread bringing together Calypso, Reggae, Salsa, Dancehall, Goombay, Ska, Jazz and Boogaloo with the mainland’s Rock, Folk, Blues and Soul woven in. Because of it’s many distinct mad musical styles coming together in one common stage, it’s sometimes difficult if not impossible to clearly define Island Funk, but we attempt to do it here with this 30-song and nearly two hours of musical madness. This ain’t Putumayo Airlines, man. This is The Root Down and this pure, uncut Island Funk.
