- The 1960s were the starting point of celebrity culture as we know it due to the explosion of TV and pop music, which created a much larger pool of public figures in general.

All these names that we've grown up with our entire lives are now reaching their 70s and 80s, the end of average life expectancy.

Unfortunately, this is a trend that's only gonna accelerate.

my kids had a camp this summer and one of the things they focused on was Michael Jackson. So now every time they hear someone they like on the radio their first question is..“are they still alive?”

That doesn't mean we're saying that a MAGA supported loves Hitler.

There are exceptions for RIP posts I understand - little scandals or foibles should be omitted but support for MAGA, Trump, or Hitler , or The Klan stays in fair play - unless MODS post a rule against it.

She had a good voice. She used it to sing beautifully. Then she used it to go Q-Anon/MAGA.

I spent 20 minutes investigating her alleged MAGA support, and the interesting thing is that there's no evidence of any MAGA support outside of her Twitter account. No interviews. No videos of her saying this. Nothing on her IG. Just her Twitter account.

And even when you look at her Twitter account, you start to question whether it was really being controlled by her:

From like late 2019-2022 her account gets weirdly active on social issues with lots of hashtags and @s, whereas before and after that it's all proverbs and announcing show dates and sharing music. These tweets from this period don't sound like her in any interview she has ever given. It's weird.

But IDK. Maybe it's her. I've got a couple of aunties who turned MAGA (almost exclusively former drug addicts who turned super religious who spend a lot of time around white people).

Even if it is, I can't bring myself to shit on the legacy of a Black Woman from Mississippi, born in the 50s, who has made so many contributions to the culture. She's more than just a beautiful voice. Who knows what she has been through. I know a lot of older black folks who lived long hard lives who started saying weird shit when they got older.

for a Black woman born in Mississippi in the 1950s, you brought them up to say that her RIP post should be treated similarly, with regard to the rules of decorum for RIP posts, which don't apply.

I don't think Cassandra Wilson's passing should be treated similarly to the passing of members of the KKK and the American Nazi Party.
