But she sounds blah to me. Her vocal doesnt stand out to anyone else today.

13523479, I think the aim of Peyton (in this debut) is to be "somewhat/generally"...

...a decent/functional "vehicle" for a sound....

...Then....

...show some more "wildness" etc. on her part (not Shafiq's part) on further albums.

Some would say acts like Nirvana etc. started like that: you start "modest" THEN you kind of get a little wilder with the next releases (Kurt was sort of upset when some critic said the first Nirvana album "Bleach" sounded like Lynyrd Skynyrd - trust me, Kurt wanted to come off cooler than Lynyrd Skynyrd. But obviously, few were comparing Nirvana to Lynyrd Skynyrd later on...even though by then Kurt probably would haven't minded - since "coolness" lost a lot of luster to Kurt by the end).

I like it when artists start modest then "grow into" something. Some would say Beach House did that. Maybe Crumb too.

And other whispery singers that get more props for being a pretty face that can hold a note vs actual front stage singer capabilities. I think its odd the same listeners that would go ham on Brandy and MJB are willing to be lullabied to boredom by boring background vocals.
LynyrdSkynyrd perhaps had influence on Nirvana, as Jim Morrison, Bowie etc and based on the Nirvana sounds like a headlining rock band and not a coverband or filler band.

Don’t get me wrong, they have their place but it is, generic light subtle background vocals.
13523798, yeah he could have picked a better vocalist
