but seriously, having Eddie play Tracy Morgan while Tracy Morgan is actually there...Brilliant!

Also Doug outta nowhere right at the end there

But they mostly nailed it.

Lots of tech issues but some really fucking great moments that just made for a fun watch.
13517004, My biggest complaint: *way* too many celebrities.

There were two sketches that only featured two cast members and a bevy of celebrities, many of whom we don't associate with SNL at all. Like, why have a lengthy joke about drumming on Kim Kardashian's ass that brings the sketch to a halt? Why do Bronx Beat with Miles Teller (?!?!)? Why rehash Debbie Downer with a bunch of celebrities and give them nothing to do? Why end Black Jeopardy with the Tom Hanks character doing an almost word-for-word retread of a joke from the previous time he was on, when what we all wanted to see is more Eddie? Meryl was funny... but why not Jane Curtin in that role? Or Gasteyer or Oteri or etc?

The 40th seemed like it maybe didn't have the spectacle... but it felt more like an affectionate retrospective, whereas this felt like a victory lap that left much of the cast in the stands.

Was fun to see Eddie in two sketches though. Linda Richman and Drunk Uncle were a delight, as always. Sandler and Samberg are always reliable. And while the Mulaney musical thing always becomes a bit of a mess, they're very endearing and affectionate, which is what these sorts of anniversary shows should be imo (and Nathan Lane was the only celeb cameo that made sense in the context of the joke!).
13517013, That’s my issue. Jaded Hollywood audience

And though there was excitement with the performances etc, the lower keyed atmosphere compared to a regular audience was palpable
