(i'll try to be brief)

i came to OKP because The Roots were booked for Bumbershoot (big music festival) in Seattle, Labor Day weekend 1999 (this is how i know i came in September 1999). went to see them and it was more like "The Roots"...it was Quest, Rahzel and i THINK Dice Raw so they couldn't really do Roots joints w/out Black Thought (story goes he was shooting Brooklyn Babylon and had to miss this gig) so we pretty much got Rahzel beat boxing for the better part of an hour. i mean, i love Rahzel but we were pissed.

so, my boy, who was an OKP but no longer posts and hasn't in probably 20 years, came to the boards to call the Roots out for playing their fans (i'm SURE Questlove remembers), and that's what got me to join the boards...to join in the call out cuz we were all pissed.

we took a lot of heat back then from people who were already on the boards (we did have some support from some OKPs but not a lot), but ultimately it worked out cuz Questlove and the guys did the right thing - they did a free show at DV8 by the Seattle Center, and we all got to go to that and the show was super FIRE (probably way better than what we would have got if everyone showed up originally).

anyways, been here ever since. i even remember my first post was from the computer lab in Terry/Lander Hall at U of Washington.

Amazing. The world has changed so much since the site first started and it's still here. Despite the craziness and things quieting down a bit, this site remains a testament to inspiration, conversation, and debate. A few have started here and went on to do bigger and greater things; others are currently on that path. May this site continue to push those forward on their journey.
If not, then at least provide the onlookers comedy with all the drama.

HUB (R.I.P.) told me backstage after a Roots show around 2002 to join OKAYPLAYER, I was like what's that? lol he said just go and become a member.
CHANGED MY LIFE for real, I have been friends with and talked to OKP's every single day of my life since then..EVERY FRIGGIN DAY.

In it's heyday, this place was incredible

It was a gift given to me after I graduated and the plan was for me to keep track of my life after college and starting my career in LA. I just found it recently and at first I was pretty good about tracking what was going on in my world but what I figured out is that I pretty much gave up journaling to talk shit on these boards. Like the time I use to spending writing in that journal ended up being the time I spent here talking music, culture, etc.
