13481774, We've been through like 4 tetras and a beta in the past week

We've got a big 30 gallon tank, a 5 gallon tank that filters through plant roots and a tiny 1 gallon tank. Feeding the fish is usually my wife's responsibility but she got herself quarantined and I didn't remember to feed the fish in the smaller tanks for about 3 days. By that point, the beta in the smallest tank and one of the 2 tetras in the middle tank were gone. I remembered the fish in the big tank bc he's been my responsibility before but I've rarely dealt with the small fish so it slipped my mind.

Well we replace the beta and the tetra but my wife cleans out the middle tank bc it was past due for a cleaning. Two days later, the other original tetra is gone.

So my wife goes and gets a 2nd new tetra from the store and the new one passes away within 3 days. She at least gets a refund on it and gets the 3rd new tetra. Then this morning, I notice that the 1st new tetra has croaked too.

So at this point, I told my wife we need to figure out what's up before getting another fish. I'm doing some research on the fish we do have and I'm realizing the beta really needs more space and they recommend having a school for 5+ tetras..... I'm really trying to keep myself from getting deep into this bc I definitely watched several hours of this YouTube channel during Covid lockdowns https://www.youtube.com/@FootheFlowerhorn
