People think they're so insightful for pointing out that she sounds abused. She could just as easily realize that the text makes it sound that way. People don't know her, but think she's a damsel in distress who couldn't possibly think enough to be manipulative in the way she communicates. The perks of being a white woman... always assumed to be innocent and naive, without any will to be cunning, even when nothing could be farther from the truth.
