This is different from the "Every Breath You Take: The Classics" surround SACD. First, it has the "correct" version of "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" on it and not the weird one on the SACD. Also different tracks.

with Fred Hersch "Alive at the Village Vanguard" - for those who think Espy has gotten "weird" over the past couple albums, this is straight vocals and piano, maybe her most straight-forward project. I'm going to see her tomorrow night, and can't wait.

Heard a bunch of the tracks from it during a show with him in November. Gonna be dope.

Not a ton catching my eye but we of course get The Magic Number on streaming today, apparently Apple Music has it in spatial sound. As far as new music the Black Thought & El Michels Affair - Grateful single is dope, can't wait for that album. I am definitely checking out the new Skyzoo album. I will also check out the ElCamino, Aaron Frazer and Declaime.

2 artists who I consistently like their stuff in one week is about all I really want to listen to, anyway.

As someone who's been following him since Anything, I'm really happy for his success. I'd say that a lot of his projects post-FOTO have had a lot of skips on them though. Great for him, but idk if his projects at large are for me anymore

Basically all his songs are on the exact same level and it's a sound that really works for me but I can definitely understand why some people might not dig it or get tired of it.

I am getting a bit tired of how defensive and dismissive he is in some lyrics. I don't know if the accusations against him are true and I don't know how I would handle being falsely accused but I don't think he's handled it that well.

I do appreciate his honesty though. I always felt that he just put everything out there including the worst sides of him. Not sure why some people think he was always just overly positive.

I actually really really hate to say this, but I think for me, I resonated a lot more with "sad" Kota (Paloma Beach, Anything era) because I was in a similar place at the time they dropped. As a human, I'm very happy for "happier" Kota, but his music just doesn't hit me at the soul level anymore. I do agree that at the surface, it is similar sonically

Not sure how many here people here would into this, but I'm kind of loving this. The main thing that might turn people off is the auto-tune in the early rap verses, but I think the transition from the trap beat into that beautifully melodic pre-chorus is done perfectly, and the beat coming back for the chorus is too. Aside from the song, it's pretty apparent now that that 90s and Y2K aesthetic has been coming back hard.

They were also recently trending because of this "GALZ XYPHER" track (https://youtu.be/-L4Visli9sA), mainly because of the first girl's rapping over J.I.D's "Surround Sound," and I'm sure everyone at least recognizes that sample from "Ms. Fat Booty." So there's kind of an interesting overlap of hip-hop/rap fans and fans of this kind girl group sound on some musical Venn diagram.

i liked the ARCS record, electrophonic chronic. it's key members from Black Keys and El Michels Affair and a really solid album.

the 'Concrete Fantasia' album from Onoe Caponoe is a great UK rap record.

Reuben Vincent's album (Love is War) was a nice surprise from Jamla, with the usual Justice League suspects behind the boards (Khrysis, 9th etc)

Joya Mooi delivered a gorgeous R&B album with 'What's around the corner'. Really digging this one & it exceeded my high expectations.

Also on the R&B side, Gene Noble's 'Feel a way' was interesting...

My playlist of songs worth checking out for January is 142 songs but my favorites playlist is only 31 songs and that's mostly from the Skyzoo and Kota albums.

I definitely feel like I'm missing out on some. These look interesting and they weren't on my radar at all.

Skyzoo Kota & Oddisee were definitely the standout albums.

I addition to the above i also liked C.S. Armstrong's Let the people decide. He puts out a lot of material and its hot & miss for me, but there are some strong ones on this one. Biig Piig album had some gems too.

I did listen to singles from Black Thought & EMA and Cordae with Paak a lot, can't wait for those projects to hit streaming
