13475866, What else are we watching in 2023 Posted by Dstl1, Mon Jan-02-23 11:36 AM
Shout out to SuiteLady, the OG of these show posts, lol!
Appletv is doing 3 month trials, again...started one up the other day. Wife and I watched the show "Loot" with Maya Rudolph. Real fun. Eps are short. Knocked out the whole season in an evening. Some legit LOL moments. Maya was the star, but Ron Funches stole the show. I been rocking with him as a comedian, but he killed this joint.

13475989, Started watching The Resort, on Peacock... Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jan-04-23 10:17 AM
last night. I couldn't sleep, so I went downstairs and fired up the tv. Watched 5 eps, straight. Very entertaining. I like the main characters, a lot.
|
13475999, The Resort is good but I didn't like the ending. Posted by SuiteLady, Wed Jan-04-23 11:23 AM
|
13476304, The resolution of the main story in the final ep… Posted by Dstl1, Sat Jan-07-23 10:13 AM
or the very end, ending? I was somewhat ok with the story resolution and as far as the ending, I knew they had to leave an opening for a possible, second season. I was reading an article where the creator of the show says he already has Season 2 framework, if Peacock is down.
|
13486150, The resolution of the main story. If that had been better this could have Posted by SuiteLady, Sat Jun-10-23 03:57 PM
be a mini series and I would be happy.
|
13475990, i finally fired up South Side last night. Posted by PROMO, Wed Jan-04-23 10:29 AM
got through the first 3 eps of Season 1. i like it, and i hear it gets better, so definitely gonna keep watching.
|

13475991, what are the must see shows/movies (?) on Apple TV? Posted by mista k5, Wed Jan-04-23 10:31 AM
I've just been rewatching Succession but my subscription for HBO Max is over tomorrow. Going to take a break from it.
|
13475994, Ted Lasso and Severance. Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Jan-04-23 10:45 AM
Severance Sags a bit in the middle but the last couple of episodes are some of the best episodes in TV I've seen in a looong time.
********** "Everyone has a plan until you punch them in the face. Then they don't have a plan anymore." (c) Mike Tyson

|
13477230, Ted Lasso S1 was great Posted by mista k5, Tue Jan-24-23 10:20 AM
very corny but I can see why it's popular. S2 was eh. Almost gave me the last seasons of Atlanta vibes. "Why a whole episode on ___, what does this have to do with ___??!!" lol S2 wasn't a complete stinker but definitely seemed like they didn't know what to do after S1.
Watched a few episodes of Severance. The mystery hooks you right in. Not enjoying it as much as Ted Lasso but I figure there's a big payoff coming.
|
13477575, Blah Severance Posted by mista k5, Mon Jan-30-23 11:19 AM
How are you going to end the season THERE lol
I think this is my type of show. I can see people being bored by it though.
|
13475995, IMHO... Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jan-04-23 10:48 AM
Ted Lasso Severance The Morning Show Loot See

13476042, Ted Lasso for sure Posted by makaveli, Wed Jan-04-23 03:11 PM

|
13476043, Servant is must watch TV. That show is wild af Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jan-04-23 03:15 PM
See Mosquito Coast 5 Days at Sturdy Memorial was dark as fuck but amazing The Banker WeCrashed Ted Lasso of course Invasion not sure of this is Apple + but it was good. Ending was a little meh tho
People love Severance bit it was too slow for me. Opening credits are nice tho.. and ot looks like it could be interesting
|
13478017, Watched the first episode of Servant last night Posted by mista k5, Fri Feb-03-23 10:48 AM
I didn't love it but I can see how it could be entertaining. I'll probably come back to it.

You can't keep putting off the 'big question' like this.
Feels VERY "LOST".

13475998, awe! thanks. I am currently watching Secrets of Playboy Posted by SuiteLady, Wed Jan-04-23 11:22 AM
Pretty awful shit! I did notice that the celebrities they decided to name names with were mostly black. I think I only heard one white celebrity's name called out specifically. I am only on episode 8 at this point though.
|
13476034, Reginald The Vampire Posted by spades, Wed Jan-04-23 02:46 PM
Surprisingly good. I'm enjoying it. Sidenote: Them Van Peeples have SKRONG genes.

13476054, RE: What else are we watching in 2023 Posted by Marbles, Wed Jan-04-23 03:47 PM
We just finished "Derry Girls." It's one of the goofiest shows ever but I loved the whole run. You may have to watch with subtitles though.
Just started "Fleishman Is in Trouble." It was "Meh" but we only watched one ep. I'll give it a couple more shots.
We just discovered the Tastemade channel and we're all in on "Struggle Meals."
I'm still enjoying "Ghosts."
Finished the 2nd season of "Barry." I'm enjoying this way more than I expected.
I just saw that "American Auto" is coming back midseason. It's a regular ass sitcom but I get some laughs from it.
Got a lot of Marvel stuff to catch up on.
We watched "Smile" (the horror flick) and "Glass Onion" last week.
|
13476064, I love Barry and Derry Girls is pretty funny Posted by makaveli, Wed Jan-04-23 04:09 PM
i think my favorite episode of Derry Girls is the miracle one. I haven't watched the third season yet.
|
13476070, American Auto is excellent... Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jan-04-23 04:21 PM
I'm gonna re-watch Season 1 right quick, as soon as I'm done with The Resort.

It was a fun to watch and just got crazier as you got deeper into it.
The end was just OK but overall this was a blast to watch. Completely insane.

Delivers on action, humor, emotional beats and it doesn’t insult the viewers intelligence. Can’t really ask for much else from a kids movie
|
13476714, saw some critics had this top 5 animated movie of the year... Posted by PROMO, Fri Jan-13-23 01:25 PM

13476747, Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street - white folks are amazing... Posted by ThaTruth, Sat Jan-14-23 11:28 AM
that's my take from it, between this and the Epstein doc the overarching theme is if you're white with money you can literally do whatever you want.
The gov't builds RICO cases against rappers and won't touch these guys lol

13476774, I’m in 200% geek mode. Played the first game enough to recite the show Posted by nativesun07, Mon Jan-16-23 03:27 PM
When I finished the game I felt like it was better than most movies and all they’d really needed to do was stay true to the game for tv/film
They did and don’t and it helps that the writer/director of the game is those things for the show too
Why they needed to make the intro even more heartbreaking….don’t know, but he had 10 years to rewrite it
|
13476775, never played the game so luckily, for me, nothing will disappoint... Posted by PROMO, Mon Jan-16-23 03:29 PM
in that regard.

13476777, Going to give this a try Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jan-16-23 04:56 PM
had a Walking Dead feel to it the way things turned.
I do appreciate fast moving zombies or whatever these are called. Always side eyed slow walking zombies.. how the fuck am I supposed to be afraid of zombies that shuffle slow af
|
13477233, watched the last 3 seasons of walking dead grudingly, so you Posted by T Reynolds, Tue Jan-24-23 10:41 AM
can understand my apprehension at another zombie series
But honestly, it's different enough, with a cool enough premise, that it easily falls into the highly watchable category of serial dramas
My wife is so good at facial recognition she instantly knew the daughter in the show had to be related to thandiwe newton. She stays identifying people in shows that last had a role 20 years ago lol
Anyway after watching episode 2 last night, I'm definitely hooked, and hope this show fulfills its promise without fizzling at the halfway point like a lot of other shows
|
13477249, the material was released in 2013.... Posted by nativesun07, Tue Jan-24-23 01:11 PM
...there was still alot of zombie isht then but, by now - I have seen movies and films steal from the original game
its a good original story
|
13477520, I wasn’t aware of the game and I do not like that girl Posted by SuiteLady, Sat Jan-28-23 03:44 PM
so much so that she is hard for me to watch.
|
13477577, Ep 3 was dope. I love how we're getting these breakaways... Posted by PROMO, Mon Jan-30-23 11:24 AM
this time it was basically a whole episode. last week was the stuff in Jakarta.
also, Nick Offerman in that role was mad surprising. kudos to him and the casting and show runners to make that choice and that it actually worked really well.
|
13477677, Yeah I did like this one! Frank's whole vibe gave me anxiety though. Posted by SuiteLady, Tue Jan-31-23 09:41 AM

13477224, Who Killed Jenni Rivera? (2022) Posted by SuiteLady, Mon Jan-23-23 10:49 PM
Somehow I missed this whole news event back in 2012.
|
13477512, Just finished this.... Posted by Dstl1, Sat Jan-28-23 01:15 PM
***SPOILERS*** and I'll do you one better...I never even HEARD of Jenni Rivera, before this post. Now, I understand that my demographic probably wouldn't be hip to her music. That said, I am surprised that I've never even heard of her...she was MASSIVE. I legit was aware of who Selena was, when she was murdered. All that said...this was a sad watch. I can't even imagine what kind of weight she was under when she was performing some of those shows...especially her final show. She was told NOT to sing in Monterrey and she went out there and CRUSHED it. They killed that woman, man.
|
13477591, I’ve seen the cover for this doc and wondered who the fuck she was Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jan-30-23 12:51 PM
cause I never heard of her before.

|
13477581, Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies (Peacock) Posted by Dstl1, Mon Jan-30-23 11:40 AM
joint auto-played right after the Jenni Rivera doc ended. I watched about 10 minutes and was interested. Three eps, so it's a pretty fast watch. It dealt more than with the details of the event (there are plenty of those), but hearing from Casey Anthony RIGHT TODAY was interesting. NGL, either she is a Meryl Streep level actress or her father is a complete piece of shit. It's probably some unknown mixture of both.

13482717, This Love Is Blind s4 LIVE reunion bout to be wild Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sat Apr-15-23 02:42 PM
Jackie deserves all the smoke. Marshall set himself up tho.
Kwame don't seem to really like Chelsea or her dog frfr. Something about him has her hooked tho. They made history as the first black male/white woman LIB couple lol.
Kwame seemed more attracted to Micah aka Donald Duck, which was WILD to me. She unattractive and a terrible person.
Zach and Bliss seem like a compatible couple imo. Altho Bliss' white-identified personality seems to strongly contribute to that.
Brett and Tiffany are the best LIB couple yet for me.
Jackie deserves all the smoke.
|
13482755, Love is Patient? Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Apr-16-23 08:22 PM
man I was ready for this shit too
Wife got me hooked on this shit.
Chelsea is about that life.. you can tell. Kwame just wants a white woman but not that white woman. Micah is extremely hard on the eyes.. and her Wayans brothers White Girl looking ass friend confirms she aint shit.
Bliss is fine as hell but ain't no way I could listen to her voice all day. Gotdamn she is whitewashed. She bad tho..
Jackie is unstable. I could tell early on she is all looks but hella damaged.
and fuck Irina. I hate that bish.. always smirking like a villain and shit. Can't believe Zack picked her over Bliss but I can't front, if all I have is a voice I prolly wouldn't pick Bliss either. Her voice sounds like Irina's personality.
but smh at Netflix fumbling the live reunion.
|
13482783, Jackie was too scared to take that heat live Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Apr-17-23 07:56 AM
and Irina had a million excuses for why she was a POS on that show. Panic attacks make you act like an evil ass beyotch????
but Jackie refusing to give back the ring is some weirdo shit. She must need to money.
|
13482931, Vanessa a weirdo for giving Marshall more smoke than Jackie Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Apr-17-23 08:24 PM
Keke-ing it up with Jackie and Josh, overlooking Jackie calling Marshall gay but acting like his clapback was so terrible. Nigga was fed up. He chose the craziest woman he could tho. He did it to himself.
>and Irina had a million excuses for why she was a POS on that >show. Panic attacks >make you act like an evil ass beyotch????
Man them Roseanne Barr ass excuses lmao. I was glad to see a woman finally get the business at the reunion tho. THey always get a pass no matter how terrible they are. Jackie needed much more smoke tho.
>but Jackie refusing to give back the ring is some weirdo shit. >She must need to money.
I wouldn't doubt it. She seems like a bum.
I was glad Kwame fixed his damn hairline for the reunion too.
|
13482955, I didn’t watch the first few episodes to see how they connected.. Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Apr-18-23 09:01 AM
in the pods.
My wife likes this show so when I came back from a business trip all I saw was hair and a face so I was like “ooh, she bad” and my wife said “she fine but she’s funny style”
and she didn’t disappoint. I knew she was one of those women who likes dirt dawgs too.
and duck face got off easy too. she got dumped but she was shitty and Irina’s road dog.

13482957, Hello Tomorrow, not sure why but I loved that shit Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Apr-18-23 09:09 AM
Tetris was okay but I never finished it. Trying to get a game out of Russia was wild.. lol
Succession. whew, but now that we are finally here I’m a bit bored with the last episode. Pretty much showing how he was the glue to it all.
Ted Lasso.. its still good. Ole girls friend and assistant is fine AF. I’m embarrassed to admit the owner of the team is also the old hag from Game of Thrones and I have to admit, she bad af too.
Abbott still hilarious.
I miss the Wu Series already.
Snowfall looks like its falling flat.
Best series right now is Golden State vs Sacramento. That shit is high intensity drama. lol

13483225, Mandalorian was so gangster this season Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-21-23 10:27 AM
those helmets, outfits and the whole story of those people is everything I love about Star Wars.
Still fucks me up how deep they go with these storylines and history.
They have all the Star Wars shows in chronological order and I was interested in watching from the beginning but these cartoons have like 20 seasons and 30 episodes each season. How in the fuck???? People say these are good but I aint got that much timw left on earth to watch all that.

13483791, American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing Posted by Dstl1, Mon May-01-23 07:48 AM

13483792, The Legacy Of J Dilla on Hulu Posted by Dstl1, Mon May-01-23 08:01 AM
I was up super late, after hockey last night and stumbled upon this. SO good. Had me in tears. I found out about Dilla passing while I was in Iraq. I had just got back from a mission. I got some food, showered and sat down with my laptop. An OKP who I'm still cool with today had sent me an email and let me know about his passing. I was bummed. Watching the doc, hearing the core SV sounds he was known for brought back a lot of memories. Like sitting in a hotel room in Detroit and someone playing us Get this Money and thinking...what the fuck is this?!?!?!? It went in depth on the dispute between Mama Yancey and his representation. I always knew there was beef, but never understood the genesis of it. I think my favorite part was Jazzy Jeff breaking down the song Players. I was last night years old when I learned that vocal sample isn't saying "playaaaaassss". Lol. The way Dilla took the sample he used and turned it into the song we love, it's like...who's brain thinks of that. Definitely worth the watch. Youtube link breaking down Players https://youtu.be/Nh3Si9V1lJI

Yes, I did it to myself..knowing how much hearing about 2Pac and BIG essentially getting themselves killed sends me into all sorts of emotions.
But also yes, I considered a really good show that didn't beat the typical 2Pac doc drums in the same way. The footage was mostly wonderful...especially him in the white jumpsuit rapping. And it was great seeing more about Afeni than normal on this one too.
And duh, I loved Tupac's music, so seeing it laid into context makes it hit as hard as ever even damn near 30 years later. I love the utopian idea of what he coulda accomplished even if it was (and still would be) a long shot (because people are unappreciative assholes and too many people see artists as products only). I still loathe his fate and how little most people seemed to 'learn' from his failures. And don't start me on the parade of bad faith negativity that goes towards his music or even him with all of the foolishness he brought on himself. Oh well, I enjoyed the show.
And I listened to the 'original' Still I Rise (the one with Big Syke saying '96 big body sitting on chrome' as the hook) yesterday. It is still one of my favorite Pac verses along with all of Unconditional Love. Getting my hands on a bunch of those bootlegs in 97 felt like a treasure trove of absurdly good outtakes. Now we know that lots of artists have some killer vaults.

Pac definitely was part of the beatdown of a gang member a few hours earlier b4 his death but what did Biggie do in ur opinion?

and yeah, the Pac robbery at the studio definitely made him a marked man unfortunately.
but from all I remember I think Biggie wasn’t to blame for his death.

i expected to hate hate it, so my expectations were super low
i thought the two leads did fine but most of the jokes just sucked, especially from the other two dudes. they just reeally overcooked all the "white" stuff, including how Styles dressed, etc..
all that said, i found it watchable and i chuckled a few times. the LA setting always helps me, plus it was great to see Lance Riddick.

“Based on the true story of Sam Meffire’s rise and fall in East Germany, this miniseries follows Sam’s desperate search for a place he can call home, as he fights for recognition and justice. Sam goes from being the first Black cop in the GDR to media celebrity, and finally a criminal in the wild years following German reunification.”
Really good story that’s worth checking out. The English dubbed voiceover is okay, but I always prefer to to hear the original language.

13488306, i mean, you don't have to like it but I don't rly get this critique Posted by Mynoriti, Wed Jul-12-23 11:04 AM
>what an unserious show.
..since it's pretty much in line with all of Elmore Leonard's stuff. It never really tried to pass itself off as some kind of deep, serious show. Sure there were dramatic beats but it always had a breeziness about it. I always liked to contrast it with SOA which was convinced it was profound prestige tv, while justified always felt comfortable in it's own skin.
|
13488315, idk anything about leonard. im judging the show on its own merits. Posted by .Monkeynuts., Wed Jul-12-23 01:18 PM

13487828, Chevalier ... biopic on Hulu Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sat Jul-01-23 02:29 PM
Made me read further into his life. It's an ok movie, worth watching, but there's SO much more to his life than was depicted. He accomplished much more than a movie could show, perhaps, but they focused mainly on the composing and didn't even include much of that aspect of his life, and they took storytelling liberties that I thought were unnecessary. Still, it was ok in terms of sparking interest in his life.

13488343, 1923 is the most frustrating show i've ever seen in my life Posted by Mynoriti, Wed Jul-12-23 05:43 PM
Sheridan has a habit of heaping so much tragedy on its characters, especially early on. but at least in 1883 the story was tighter. 1923 has so much potential, but it seems like they're dragging their feet by perpetually dumping more misery on everyone until it just feels like overkill. its torture to watch, yet i'm all in for the next season.
weirdly enough i wish Tulsa King was a little darker

About halfway thru right now. It has my interest.
|
13493241, It had potential, but the flaws are too massive. Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Oct-23-23 12:37 PM
I know every Black woman in a relationship on TV these days is seemingly required to be with a white guy, but this one made absolutely no sense with race being such a central component of the story. I thought it would tie in some way, or be confronted, but they just kinda acted like it wasn't a thing at all. I mean imagine a story about a Black male fighting the system with a white woman on his arm. That would have to be a total comedy to be taken seriously (pun intended).
Then (spoiler alert) the origin of the grease is never explained. All of that stemming from this mystery grease with no origin? Wth kind of ending was that?
The story was decent, but it just grinds my gears when ppl wanna be militant lite. You wanna talk about some real shit that we all deal with, but then you make compromises that make a mockery of the message. That's more egregious than just making another dope selling show.

13493242, It's a bone I have to pick with race blind casting in general. Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Oct-23-23 01:28 PM
Don't just take a white character and make them black (or vice versa) the race of your characters is going to impact the story, let it impact the story. If you ignore it, then what's the point?

13493274, I agree. Just extra silly here with race being so central to the story. Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Oct-23-23 06:34 PM
It was negligent, caused missed opportunities, and ultimately made the story unrealistic overall.

13493800, it was predictable but I agree, they never addressed it. Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Nov-01-23 06:45 PM
I kept waiting for someone to say something
but then again, I used to call it the manhattan back in the late 90’s.
went there one time and the amount of Black women I seen with white men was shocking. Now that I think about it, it was also common in Park Slope where my sister lived in the 90’s so maybe they are keeping it realzzzz!
given the show tho, cmon, not even a joke or reference to her white ass boyfriend?

13495167, The Documentary Victim/Suspect on netflix Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Nov-29-23 11:20 AM
https://www.netflix.com/title/81288561
Cops man. In the vein of false confessions, there is a trend of charging women (mostly) with filing false police reports simply for coming forward with accusations of rape. These filing false reports charges are based solely on recants, but the recants are often the result of manipulated false confessions.
Every cop in the country should be forced to watch.

dude is an incredible human being to not crack after all he went through and the real villain just skated by with no punishment. To see dude actually being able to sing those songs live was cool as well. the part when he said he hated to go outside because if he heard anybody laugh he thought it was because of him ... wow
