I dont even think Black Star of the early 2000s could have made it on SNL. Let alone, the washed up version.

It's live network tv so maybe he can go without telling any trans jokes?!?

If I were a writer pitching bits to him I would pitch a bit where he meets some of his new fans and he hates them. I would even do it as a riff of that old SNL skit where Captain Kirk meets some of his fans.

He has to keep telling trans jokes to own the libs??

Not telling jokes about trans would just mean their are other jokes he knows how to tell.

but if you're looking for some kind of mea culpa sketch, yea that's not happening.

Dave’s monologue was incredible.

Lots of good sketches. Some were whatever but good stuff overall.

Black Star was great. Think it was a very missed opportunity to not do an old song, but I understand why. Just think it’d help them drum up more interest in them as a group and have people seek out the new album but what do I know.

Dave really makes this show better whenever he does it.
13473167, Chappelle was damn funny.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Sun Nov-13-22 03:57 PM
He used the platform to say controversial stuff worth saying.

Potato Hole sketch was inspired. The game of thrones one was meh. The weekend update was as good as it gets, Black star was meh (like their new album).

So was Potato Hole. So was the monologue.

Trudging out those old characters for the Thrones parody was super stale, tho. With all the time that took they should have done a song and video short with Dave and Black Star.
13473189, that monologue was one of the funniest things ive seen in a while.

‘SNL’ Slammed for Dave Chappelle Monologue: “Popularizing Anti-Semitism”
The Anti-Defamation League called out the NBC late-night show after Chappelle's comments about the Jewish community.

BY JAMES HIBBERD

NOVEMBER 13, 2022 7:15PM

Dave Chappelle was on TV again.

This time, the divisive comic spent the bulk of an extended monologue on Saturday Night Live giving his thoughts on Kanye “Ye” West’s rants about the Jewish community.

On Sunday, the Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt criticized the NBC program, accusing the late-night staple of “popularizing anti-Semitism.”

“We shouldn’t expect @DaveChappelle to serve as society’s moral compass, but disturbing to see @nbcsnl not just normalize but popularize #antisemitism,” he wrote on Twitter. “Why are Jewish sensitivities denied or diminished at almost every turn? Why does our trauma trigger applause?

The Jerusalem Post tweeted: “The American comedian Dave Chappelle said during his SNL monologue that he ‘denounces antisemitism in all its forms’…before promptly engaging in antisemitic tropes.”

While Time Out New York theater editor and critic Adam Feldman tweeted: “That Dave Chappelle SNL monologue probably did more to normalize anti-Semitism than anything Kanye said. Everyone knows Kanye is nuts. Chappelle posits himself as a teller of difficult truths. It’s worse.”

Yet Tangle News founder Isaac Saul tweeted: “Let me be the first Jew to say: Dave Chappelle’s SNL open last night was hilarious, timely, honest, and a reminder that he still understands this country better than a lot of people whose whole job is to understand the country. It’s okay to acknowledge there are a lot of Jews in media and Hollywood. And like Dave said, you can simultaneously note that it’s very stupid to think this means they are in some cabal controlling the world.”

Chappelle’s 15-minute monologue has racked up 3.2 million views in less than 24 hours on YouTube – more than any other SNL video since last May. It included comments such as Chappelle saying Ye broke “the show business rules of perception…if they’re Black, then it’s a gang. If they’re Italian, it’s a mob. But if they’re Jewish, it’s a coincidence and you should never speak about it.” (For full context, the monologue is below.)

He added: “I’ve been to Hollywood…this is what I saw: It’s a lot of Jews. Like, a lot. But that doesn’t mean anything! There’s a lot of Black people in Ferguson, Missouri. Doesn’t mean they run the place.” The comedian said he understood how somebody could “adopt the delusion” that Jewish people “run show business…it’s not a crazy thing to think. But it’s a crazy thing to say out loud in a climate like this.”

Chappelle also discussed NBA star Kyrie Irving, who recently was suspended from the Brooklyn Nets after he shared a link to the documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, a film that contains anti-Semitic sentiments. “He was slow to apologize,” Chappelle said. “And then the list of demands to get back in their good graces got longer and longer, and this is where I draw the line: I know the Jewish people have been through terrible things all over the world, but you can’t blame that on black Americans. You just can’t.”

Before the monologue, Chappelle unfolded a piece of paper and read a dutiful statement — “I denounce anti-Semitism in all its forms, and I stand with my friends in the Jewish community” — and then added, “And that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time.”

The uproar follows Chappelle receiving considerable blowback for two Netflix specials where he criticized the trans rights movement and made jokes that many felt were transphobic.

Last year, Chappelle won an Emmy Award for, ironically enough, hosting Saturday Night Live.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to NBC for comment.

For the record, I don't fully agree with the ADL here, I'm just presenting the news regarding them raising umbrage. Wonder what NBC will do next.

No matter what you actually say, if it covers certain topics, someone is gonna swing in on a rope and say/type something saying you should've have said what you said. At this point, I see a lot of it as bad faith/performative complaining. Some of it might be fair but even then, the 'oh no!!!' of it all is usually overblown and people trying to get clicks.

Hopefully NBC keeps it moving. SNL is a sketch comedy show that makes fun of stuff and people of various ilk, usually in mildly clever ways, not usually in overtly 'mean-spirited' ways. And really, no one there is actually 'in charge' of anything. I wish these websites and twittery folks would be more 'up in arms' and/or 'in the weeds' on how a Hershel Walker type could fetch anywhere near roughly half of the votes for any kind of 'real elected office position' from any subset of human beings in the US.

You're the one making outlandish claims about "extortion" without any evidence. You haven't even offered a clever conspiracy theory.

And that's ignoring the gross understatement about "tweeting a movie screenshot."

Once again I can see that you're deeply unserious.

Nice talking to you, tho.

Posted by Brotha Sun, Thu Nov-17-22 08:46 AM
Do you think the reaction to kyrie and the demands made of him are proportionate to his original offense?
13473448, It's not semantics. As mentioned below, by terming his punishment ...
Posted by Brew, Thu Nov-17-22 09:56 AM
... like you did without even a sliver of evidence, you're no better than a Q conspiracy theorist.

And while I don't think the punishment quite fits the crime, I also have zero sympathy for Kyrie and his anti-semitism so I'm not gonna expend any energy defending him. Because while I think the punishment is slightly over the top, I don't think the space between his offenses and his punishment is all that wide.
13473465, Jesus man. That was a lot

ADL is a protection racket and got raided by the FBI for illegally spying on civil rights groups and labor unions. (fact check me)

The amount of paranoia and fear mongering these guys are able to pull off with zero backlash is astounding. all while funding a genocide in Israel

Q anon would have to work very hard to get the amount of blood on their hands the adl/zionist lobby collected. but kyrie is your enemy. disgusting

Cool man. All's I said was that I'd assume/hope that they, as an organization, are more thoughtful about what/who they respond to than Joe Thinkpiece from Buzzfeed or TMZ or whatever the fuck. That's not even a definitive statement ! Just a hope. LOL. Remember, that's how this all started, you responding to that very harmless line.

>Q anon would have to work very hard to get the amount of blood

But but I wasn't comparing Qanon to ADL, I was comparing your verbiage to the type of outlandish nonsense a Q follower would spew. Try to keep up.

If the ADL puts pressure on sponsors, advertisers, or goes the drastic route to raise a stink with Comcast, NBC might not be able to 'keep it moving' or ignore their response. I have no clue how much attention the ADL's response is getting, so I can't tell if that's a possibility.

To go back to what Chapelle said in that monologue about not having a sneaker deal, he is somewhat free in that he isn't beholden to any corporate bosses that he has to answer to at the moment. I'm assuming he doesn't have any more stand up specials he's obligated to record for Netflix. Is that accurate?
13473210, When/where do we have the conversation
Posted by bentagain, Mon Nov-14-22 12:23 PM
Immediately calling people antisemitic at the mere mention of the 2 words...kind of reinforces the stereotypes and tropes that are claimed to be antisemitic

There wasn't much of a conversation IRT Kyrie's tweet...what exactly was antisemitic in the doc he linked? Antisemitic = suspended... after a history of posting dumb $hit

Kanye was counting his billion$ while saying slavery was a choice. Says the 2 words = bye bye $$$

Please tell me exactly what was antisemitic in Dave's monologue?

Let's discuss... instead of just silencing everyone
13473296, The ADL leveled their ire at NBC, not Dave
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Nov-15-22 10:21 AM
so I don't know if they have interest in having a conversation; it appears they want to correct what they view was a wrong in allowing Dave to air his views. I don't think they have interest in a back and forth.
13473304, Obviously
Posted by bentagain, Tue Nov-15-22 12:36 PM
This is one example of 3 in as many weeks
Kanye loses a billion
Kyrie is suspended
NBC next on the summer jam screen

Isn't that kind of reinforcing the tropes they claim are antisemitic?

13473206, Sorry, SUPER HACKY - consiering RUN DMC's movie had the joke
Posted by handle, Mon Nov-14-22 11:55 AM
I can't find a clip online but the scene is: Run DMC are being chased by hitmen and they run into a crowd in NYC. The hitman see Run in a crowd and turn him toward them - but wait - it's a Hasidic Jew.

Repeat once again for DMC, and maybe once for JMJ.

Then on the last turn IT IS JMJ but then JMJ throws a punch that literally disintegrates/breaks the screen. End scene.

I'll try to remember not everyone has studied important culturally history as well as I have.

If I find a joke taken from The Disorderlies or Rappin' I'll point it out, but I won't call it hacky.

If Kid Rock hosts and says ZZ top looks Hasidic too I'll point out The Simpsons episode that dealt with that too.

Tougher than Leather IS a bad film, but the score sounding like differnt takes of You Be Illin, the Beastie Boys being silly, Lois Ayres, Rick Rubin as a piece of shit, a clearly drunk Russell Simmons, and even a brief Slick Rick siting make it worth seeking out. And RUN DMC as Truck Turner types still kills me.

>especially when you are generating 100’s of mlillions of
>dollars and then want to take your business elsewhere

That’s a general idea, i think x happens for y reason.

Ok. Cool.

I still want to know what drives that conclusion.

Because anytime a famous person, or relative of a famous person dies, things like this come up: so and so was a sacrifice.

But there’s never any real evidence behind it. It’s always a loose thread connecting dots that don’t appear to actually exist, yet believed with a seemingly high degree of certainty.

People die. Bad things happen. Accidents happen. People commit suicide, etc.

And sometimes, there are enough inconsistencies or evidence that draws the official story into question, yet still doesn’t provide enough evidence to actually support an alternate theory.

I.e, when Fluid says we don’t know why Chris Tucker did what he did, I think that’s where it ends: we don’t know, until/unless we have real information to support a conclusion, conspiracy or otherwise.

Let me get this straight though. Kanye is no longer controlled like Diddy, Jay-Z, Beyonce and all the other black folks, yet in all his raging and stream of consciousness truth telling he hasn't explained to the world how his mother was sacrificed for money?

I think I would have lead with that to expose a cabal.

Yes, he had a name, a brand, ambition, and connections, and capitalized on that.

from the first time he hosted SNL. The joke wasn't from his perspective, but from the point of view of Ohio voters that support Trump. In addition, I think the joke was a good reminder for folks not to underestimate just how much power Trump still unfortunately holds with the masses, which I think was the point of the joke.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure I remember Dave saying he was a Democratic right around the time he landed that punchline about Trump being an honest liar.

It's funny because the co-host fall for it. Like they do exactly what he says everyone does.

BTW, this kind of points out why I think Kanye, Kyrie and Chapelle are all doing 3 different things.

Chapelle is making jokes. Satire to illuminate facts about how black people are treated differently in this country.

Kyrie, I really don't believe he had any idea what he was saying was harmful to jewish people. I just think dude is pro-black and is parroting pro-black Black Isrealite ish that real goal is to promote black people (I think Black Isrealites get it wrong but I do have a somewhat soft spot for them because I think there main goal is pro-black).

Kanye, is coming from either place, satire or love of black people. He was just as mad at black people a few months ago when he felt we weren't supporting him. He's coming at jewish people because he believes in conspiracies that they are controlling him.

The internet doesn't do nuance and distinctions but I do think they are all different.

I'm pretty much with you here.

And sadly, Kyrie lives in a world where trolls have never gotten more attention and/or been more successful.

Here's my internetty whatabout: it is kind of wild that most of the US's political system is mildly organized trolling and lowest common denominator abuse (immagrants! Oooga Booga! Gunz! Oh noooooooo!), but I'm supposed to believe that Kyrie deserves to be barred from hooping, endorsements, and earth in general cuz he lazily tweeted some shit out, people did what they do on Twitter, and he said 'yeah, I'm not playing this game with yawl' before he came back with a 'I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to do what yawl are saying I was doing. For real. I'm just lazy. Now, can I play? I actually want to play now.'?
13473387, I really don't think Kyrie is a troll or seeking any of the attention he is getting
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Nov-16-22 01:59 PM
In defense of Kyrie, this latest round started because he liked and retweeted a video that is pretty popular among a segment of the black community and I would guess he didn't know the anti-Semitic implications of. The post game interview about it it pretty clear he doesn't seem to want to talk about it or draw attention the way Kanye, Musk, et al.

He never wanted to be the face of anti-vaxx'ing. Like he was never in Pressers talking about the vaccine and he hated the anti-vaxxer press & support he got.

Even the flat earther stuff. Its a comment he made in a low view podcast that was amplified by the media.

He's a low information dude saying shit brothers say in the barbershop all the time who doesn't get he can't say any of that stuff now because the press loves to see what dumb thing he says next. I bet if dude could, he would never do another press conference again. He's contractually obligated to so them. He really doesn't at all seem to seek it like a Dennis Rodman.

IMO, too many people are projecting their interest on the topic
Bruh needs help, and that should be everyone’s first priority

But c’mon with the…he’s not doing it for attention
I don’t even f with bruh like that and know he has a history of doing this again and again
Just a coincidence?

13473472, So it's just a coincidence?

The league is overwhelming majority black
Miss me with the deflection
I'm sure th NBA players that got vaxxed know enough black people.

You didn't answer the question
This behavior preceded the pandemic
and if you remember, Kyrie even opted out of the bubble
Before there even was a vaccine
Like I said, I don't even f with dude like that
But even I can pull references off the top of my head that are evidence of problematic behavior

Dude wants to be the constant contrarian and is left grasping for straws when called on his bull$hit

So, just a coincidence?
13473504, Yeah I give grace for brothers who don't go with the flow of this Country
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Nov-18-22 08:38 AM
What you are missing is that Kyrie opinion are not at all controversial for most regular black people. It's the SNL barbershop sketch.

Like the shit Kyrie says I've heard thousands of times. Shit I went through a 5% phase at one point in my life.

Which isn't to say that I agree with him. I think he is wrong and with a broader education he could learn how he is wrong, or at the very least know what you aren't supposed to say or promote when you are superstar athlete who wants endorsement deals.

So again, I just don't think he understands that these things he is saying is controversial because well they aren't that controversial in an all black environment.

And no there is no coincidence. He tweeted the movie because Kanye says we are Semites and Kyrie tweets what he thinks is a source proving that claim. I really don't believe he understands the anti-Semitic roots of this particular black nationalistic movement. I say that after having to explain to homies more than once how blaming the Rothchilds or Soros for controlling the world is actually an age old anti-semitic trope.

Again he is a low information dude who really doesn't understand the landmines that he is stepping on IMHOP.

What Kyrie is doing isn’t really shocking to the average Black person.

based on history why the fuck wouldn’t Black folk be skeptical?

Not sure what you mean by the NBA being mostly Black. You think if it was voluntary all these
NBA players would get vaccinated?

and this is what trips me out about the NBA vs NFL. Fans on OKS were quick to boycott the NFL over Kaep but most of them didn’t say shit when the NBA forced them to stand for the pledge.

Not sure if that was your point about the racial breakdown of the NBA but players see how some get treated when they were skeptical of the vax and just stfu i stead of standing their ground.

and the corporate folks like Barkley were quick to call Kyrie all types of names. Barkley was outspoken when he played and said a lot of dumb shit too.

Which one of my replies contained shock and outrage?

My concern IRT Kyrie, as I've stated, is the escalation of behavior

IMO, bruh needs help and I hope this incident will be the catalyst for just that.

I'm replying to the topic of Kyrie not trolling or doing this for attention

As Dave said...not crazy to think...but crazy to say out loud...

Your replies make it seem like is a litmus test for blackness
... which doesn't really have anything to do with my replies...
But my point about the NBA being majority black is to illustrate how silly of an idea that is
... being that no other player is making flat earth statements, retweeting Alex Jones conspiracies and antisemitic films...

I'm saying his behavior as whole is problematic and a symptom of a bigger issue

You're disregarding any other behavior and just focusing on the film
There's more going on with bro than Hebrews to Negroes.

Curry: Me neither.. they are going to come get us.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2810107-stephen-curry-says-he-doesnt-believe-man-landed-on-the-moon

This is why I said Blackness.. you don't have a clue how Black people view so-called history in the US. We are skeptical of a LOT of shit for obvious reasons.

If you were Black you would understand. It's not a litmus test, the shit is NORMAL to most Black people. Questioning other races, the vax, the moon landing, the FBI, the government.

That shit is normal Black discussions at our dinner tables.

Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Nov-22-22 12:00 PM
And what criticism of them you don't think also applies to Nation of Islam, Islam or even Christianity?

As misguided as I think these guys are around history and organizing principles, these guys have no history of hurting anybody. In fact, a lot of these guys might otherwise be involved in some really non-productive negative stuff if it weren't for their religion.

I really don't get worked up over Mormon's mormon-ing despite thinking its a silly made up religion with racist origins. I definitely find it difficult to hate on a group that keeps brothers off the streets and not doing dumb ish.

I think it was cool for my boys to see a bunch of black men together united singing together being positive with one another and towards my kids.

I stand by my original statement and less you can provide some evidence of them doing harmful stuff with the black community.

No, I'm not a member nor do I have interests in their teachings. I have to pass by them on the way back home from my Saturday chores. Them and the dollar vans clogging up the streets normally angers me, but that's not the main reason for the response.

The first time I saw them, I was shocked they were still around yelling on NYC sidewalks as I only vaguely remember them when I was a kid in the 80's and them barking at people in major tourists spots in Manhattan.
