Something I hear a lot in passing is how SEVERAL rap dudes went lowkey in the late 90s once the Tupac and Biggie stuff went down.

IE: Bun B recently told a story about how Pimp C was supposed to be on Jay-Z's A Week Ago along with Too Short (which would've been EXCELLENT), but Jay-Z wasn't down to go to Atlanta to meet Pimp in person so it ended up not happening.

Now, I'm blown away with how cats are STILL posting their location in real time. Even though that doesn't seem like that directly led to this issue, I question it quite a bit. And I hate feeling like I want dudes to stay in the house or at least not be out late, but that's how I feel..especially right now.

28? Man that sucks.

I've had cats say to me 'oh, he was with J Prince Jr!' like who you're with somehow gives you a protective shield. I hope cats make some adjustments.
13472331, I don't want to blame/shame the dead
Posted by Adwhizz, Tue Nov-01-22 11:34 AM
because from what I understand Takeoff wasn't the one playing it was Quavo, but still I'm a (relatively)broke Nobody and I can't imagine hopping in a dice game with some randos,, let alone if I was a rich celebrity.

It's way more dangerous to be a rapper now than ever
13472338, would be interesting to know if anyone else pulled out

13472345, Based on the above friendly fire theory
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Nov-01-22 02:30 PM
the dudes they were playing with WERE their protection. Seems a friendly dice game with their own security escalated very quickly to gunfire.

But who knows, take it with a grain of salt.

To be more specific, Like J Prince is at the heart of it.

Like you can't go to Houston in Rap and not kiss the ring or be under his protection. And Migos was there with them.

Also seems like it was J Prince folk who got into it with Quavo.

What's wild is I get nervous typing that dudes name on an anonymous message board.

I can’t imagine being 28, rich and famous and having to stay at the crib because some people don’t know how to act.

I know being famous is what a lot of people dream of but that shit comes with a ridiculous amount of rules and limitations.

Posted by PROMO, Wed Nov-02-22 09:58 AM
and i'm 99.9 percent sure, from knowing certain folks, he's been in some potentially dangerous situations where guns could have been involved.

but you're right, you should be able to live your life. i'm not with anyone saying he was wrong to be out, regardless of who he was.

like, most people just don't think "if i go out, i might not make it home" especially because, from reports circulating online, he was supposed to be with people who would be shielding him from danger.
13472610, I know some shooters too but…
Posted by spirit, Sat Nov-05-22 03:40 PM
…I’m not gonna be out playing dice with them at 2am (or thereabouts)

There are a thousand places less dangerous to hang out at than that….again not to victim blame, in an ideal world, an outdoors dice game should be perfectly safe

Whenever I was around them and there was potential for shit to go down they'd be like "Aye Truth you need to get the fuck out of here because shit about get real". We'd all be riding in the car together and they'd be like "we need to drop you off because we're about to go do some shit and we know your parents don't play lol". im like dude you really just going to places that you gotta have something on you and dont see the problem w/ it? "i mean yeah it's poppin. sometimes it can go down tho"

I'm gonna need successful rappers to control their surroundings just a bit better. You can enjoy yourself and the spoils of your hard work w/o being around total strangers in public. Jay-z is not kicking it places randomly like that.

Big and Tupac learned the worst way.

Its actually kind of wild to see Diddy on the street having words with cats (granted it was Kim Ks party but why you having words in the street).

But you won't catch Jay these days at some random ass party with hood cats.

I'm in this line. Dudes in the 90s were WILD and taking hella chances.

Jay and Puff both got guardian angel'd out of some silly situations that could've tanked them bigtime. Nas and Snoop too depending on which stories you believe.

They were SUPER sloppy...

But that was almost 30 years ago when rappers were first seeing HUGE success. Have we learned nothing?

Posted by kinetic94761180, Thu Nov-03-22 02:50 PM
and it's easy to place blame/fault

but systemic issues play a major, defining role here.

there's layers to this shit, and your question abt have we learned anything is loaded. who is "we"? if you're referring specifically to rappers, then you should also question who *sponsors* them and ponder for a sec abt what *they* have "learned" and subsequently acted upon.

"WE" as in Hip Hop artists. So yes, the we is rappers.

I am not placing blame, I am frustrated by a generation losing their life.

The "sponsors" aren't even close enough to influence or dictate the day to day lives of most artist and artist camps so it is really on the ones closest to act.
