13464451, Stuff I just don't do now that I'm grown.
Posted by spades, Thu Jul-14-22 05:14 PM
A post in here got me thinking... "Yo, there's a lot of stuff I just won't do anymore."

I'm sure y'all got yours, I go mine. Chime in.
13464452, Drive more than 15 mins to 'go out'
Posted by spades, Thu Jul-14-22 05:17 PM
I used to think nothing of making a 30 min drive to go hang out and then drive 30 mins back home. Yo, I once drove 1.5hrs to SF for a B-Day party for my buddy, Brunch, Day drinking, turned around at 9ish and drove back home, and still met a chick at a bar when I got back to town.

lol

Nowadays?

Nah-B

15 mins or less. If I can't get there in a 15 minute drive (and preferably less) I ain't going.
13464458, maybe this is why I say everything is 15 minutes away in Charlotte
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jul-14-22 06:06 PM
and also why I couldn’t leave in Atlanta.. lol.

13464465, I won't even go to the other side of SF anymore.
Posted by Nopayne, Thu Jul-14-22 07:55 PM
a 20 minute uber trip is just too much to even bother with
13464453, Give the benefit of the doubt
Posted by spades, Thu Jul-14-22 05:19 PM
That benefit fund has closed. If I catch a weird vibe off you, or a situation, I'm out.

No hard feelings, it could be your fault or mine, I don't care, I'm out.

I don't play with compatibility and life has taught me you know pretty quickly. If I'm thinking or wondering, I'm walking.
13464460, yeah im with u on this...not alot of room for debate these days

13464455, Give just anybody my time…
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jul-14-22 05:42 PM
I value the FUCK out of my time. I’m not just doing anything for anybody. I was watching Kevin Hart’s talk show on Peacock, earlier and the guest on this particular episode was Jay Z. Jay made the comment that the one thing you can control is how you spend your time. He was like, if I’m leaving my house and leaving my family, what am I leaving to do?
13464484, I should think like this more often. I might steal this one.

I don't like getting screwed around by folks and I don't have patience to discover if folks know not to mess around or play games with me.

Not the most positive behavior to maintain, but I can't see myself changing in that regard.

Eat unhealthy food regularly. Like, I think about every single thing that I consume.

Go to bars where people yell and shit, or the music is loud. If I can’t have a convo in a regular speaking voice, then I’m not going/staying. Now mind you, I still love going out and having some beers. I just don’t want people screaming in my ear.

Play video games. I don’t necessarily like this one, it just is what it is. I can play for 5 minutes and I’m already bored - I just don’t care at all. This one kinda sucks.

I’m not sure if this is me being grown or just the motif of the pandemic but - boundaries absolutely fucking rule. There’s a lot of ways to deal with shitty behavior and it totally depends on what your relationship with the person is but it’s absolutely a thing I put up with for far too long.

Life is better now.

Oh and helping someone move. Fuck outta my face.

13464475, 1. Go to a concert/show where I have to stand all night.
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Jul-15-22 02:45 AM
Fuck that. I a seat to sit down at least before the show starts. Truthfully, I'm also pretty much done with the idea of catching shows in crowded clubs.

2. Drive into San Francisco. Don't want to deal with the traffic. Don't want to deal with the parking. I'd rather just spend the money on an Uber.

Stand up shows might be a wrap for me. Went to one a couple of months ago and I was suffering.

Plus the crowded venue and the youngin's who couldn't handle their puff was annoying as shit. Show got stopped three times cause some youngin's were puffin' too hard and passed out.

That shit is for the birds.

Zero tolerance

I really can't be moved to leave the house after 10pm
I'd rather be in bed by 11.
13464498, I can still drink ciders/sours/craft beers. Liquor is OUT tho

Tried to drink some of this nice rum I got in the crib a few weeks ago... took one sip and dumped the rest of the glass out, lol. Shit tastes like poison now.

Gonna try and make a rum cake with the rest of it.
13464506, There's a significantly less than 0% that I leave the house after 10 pm
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Jul-15-22 11:03 AM
Truthfully, if it's after 9 pm, chances are I'm not leaving the house. Maybe it's because I live in the sticks now.

If I'm already out, I can hang after 10 p.m. But really not THAT many hours later.

99% of the time it ain't happening if I try to include anyone else. I'm talking about doing anything outside of the norm.

Even basic shit like hiking, jamming some music, going to shoot around for bit on the court, going out dancing or going to chill in the park... I don't even bother telling anyone my plans anymore, I just roll out.

Only one that be riding with me now is my lady. I just meet new people wherever I'm going.

there was a time when I would risk it all to save 25 cents at the pump.

Dont get me wrong, I use Costco and know where gas is more expensive..

but these days if I need gas, I get gas..

I used to be all “Don’t stop here, check that one over there, circle back to the other one”

puts in 10 gallons

10 gallon x .05.. carry the one, that means I saved..

Posted by mista k5, Mon Jul-18-22 01:35 PM
i used to have an app for it and would not fill up before checking it. i did always try to pick one that was both low and near where i needed to be. i wouldn't drive across town just to save $2.00.

with how high prices have been i ended up getting the app again and found out one near where i usually buy groceries is over 30 cents cheaper than ones i usually go to. ive filled up there the last couple of times. the first time i was already across town but this gas station was near my house so just stopped there on the way back. i was closer to empty by the time i got there than id like to be though.

13464602, Dress up for work
Posted by Cenario, Mon Jul-18-22 10:05 AM
I was always trying to impress, felt i needed a 'look' to stand out adn get recognized. Nope i just needed a chance. Now that i'm where i wanna be, its Jordans, chinos and polos at least 4 days a week. On a 5th day you might catch me wit a dress shirt and shoes.

I mean COVID and virtual meetings helped this, but the days of suits and ties are over for this guy.

when I do take on a project I always have a moment of “man fuck this shit”

I need to get over that shit tho..

But yeah to be in a place where i don't need to side hustle is amazing. I do miss the random checks coming in the mail when you not event thinking about it haha

I got a project I've been dragging my feet on for the past 6 months. Client emailed me Saturday anxious because they want to get permits before fall. I'm practically done with it....but I really don't feel like following through with this last mile stretch of going through the whole permit process with DC and the subsequent construction phase. I'm certain i'm gonna just issue these plans and tell them they're on their own for construction phase services.

I'm so busy at my REAL job that I don't even have the mental capacity for voluntary stress that ultimately isn't doing anything but pushing me further into a tax bracket that's leading to higher taxes every year. The very definition of hustling backwards.

like rewriting their handbook, instituting flex scheduling/work from home policies...etc. And they were on a tight schedule so it woulda meant working like working 60+ hours a week between and that and my 9-5p.

The money woulda been cool but i really wanted to take it as an opportunity to get my name out there. I couldn't do it bc it wound up being a conflict of interest with my current gig (we contract work out to them) but sheeeeit, i was not completely disappointed. lol

Mostly due to covid but with an 80” TV at home its hard to justify going to the movies. I can wait 3 to 6 months and see it and not feel like I’m missing out.

We use to go to the movies 6 times an year.. maybe more. Since we had kids it changed to once a year and now with covid we aren’t interested at all.

This will certainly change once the kids get their first movie theater experience.

I’m sure refresh rates aren’t as fast but I don’t play video games. Couldn’t justify playing another stack or 2.

It took me less than a week to regret not getting the 75inch. Now, I'm sitting here with a 2 year old tv and wanting a bigger one, lol. I think I'm going to cop the 75 before football season starts and bless someone with this one.

mostly to avoid spoilers.

whats funny is that screen size is a big part of the theaters ads on getting people back in. they start with a black screen with the video sized to the size of a tv then gradually increase it to full size. its not like you're sitting 40' away from your TV between strangers though.

This is, for at the past two years because of COVID. Especially when they were showing non-new releases during the times when all the sit-down theaters were closed. Makes for a good date night: bring your own food and drink, chill out, etc.

I guess we've been to an actual movie theater three or four times beyond that, but it was almost always for a super-hero movie.

To piggyback, I don't try and talk about religion to the dyed in the wool "insert belief system" unless they convey to me that they want to have a serious conversation about the pros AND cons of said belief system. I'm on that Joseph Campbell "Hero With A Thousand Faces" steez. It's all stories to me.

i'm happy to put in my two cents in a non-combative way, or ask some questions, but when even that gets met with some impassioned rant, i just kinda smile like cool, do your thing, and keep it moving.

i just see it as an extension of the value of time thing dstl1 mentioned earlier in this post.

Posted by blueeclipse, Tue Jul-19-22 11:44 PM
I used to game everyday growing up and damn near everyday after work in my 20's. I BARELY pick that shit up anymore and my life is better for it. It will consume an entire fucking day before you know it.

It's an expensive ass hobby and the payoff now isn't the same for me anymore. I find myself reaching back to old shit now more than getting excited for new games.

I'd rather read, fuck, vibe to music, puff or honestly just sleep.
13464815, I'm playing video games now more than anytime after HS
Posted by mista k5, Wed Jul-20-22 09:20 AM
After HS I pretty much stopped playing. I did get into emulators in college but I wouldn't play often. Flash forward a few years after college and I got back into emulators for a year or so.

A few years back I bought a Switch and I have bought way more games for it than I expected. I don't play regularly but probably 3 to 4 times per month. It's more of playing several days in a week then forgetting about it for a month. I probably play 30 minutes to an hour on average. I haven't finished most of the games I have. Most of my downtime I spend watching TV or listening to music. I think I'd rather swap some of the TV time for video games but I think having to swap out a cartridge is enough to make just hit play next episode on the TV lol

Haven’t been into them at all but thinking about them for my kids or maybe an Oculus but that feels a bit restrictive. Like my kids will be hungry and ignored while I’m in another universe doing yoga and shit.

Nor do I ask for rides to and from the airport.

If they live in the burbs then yea I'm usually picked up.

But I've flown into large densely packed cities where it just doesnt make sense for the person to do so, (like in NYC) and I have no prob w taking an Uber/LYFT

I live 15 min from jfk so that is no biggie. if you are visiting me and flying into LGA, i'd encourage you to fly to jfk, if you insist on LGA me picking you up is not likely. If you flying into newark, well i'll see ya when i see ya.

I was skeptical when I was in college and going to games regularly. Now that I’m grown, I’m certain that it’s tomfoolery to have ‘rankings’ before anyone has played games with their current roster. And now that more players go pro ‘early’? And a coach might for real switch schools before the bowl games (more on that later)? It’s almost nothing but social media, barber shop, podcast, and/or sports channel talking head fodder. And really, it’s still mostly that even when the allegedly official ranks come out in the middle of the season. And beyond that, it’s basically a marketing tool for the games every weekend. ‘Number 3 Clemson vs Number 6 Ohio State yawl! 7 PM Saturday night, now! Be there!’.

And mfers bite down on that mouse-trapped cheese every year for several months at a time..arguing about who should be what rank and who ‘hasn’t played anybody’ or whatever. Or hating on/adoring certain conferences. I’d be more embarrassed just looking at folks act like that if we weren’t at the point where mfers pledge their allegiance to these somewhat obviously rotten political people in even more aggressive and/or dangerous ways.

And bowl games? We’re up over 30 bowls now! Them shits are basically parades if it ain’t the final 4 or MAYBE the top couple of bowls after that. When I look around and see teams with 5 losses playing in bowls? C’mon now (B High voice)! Even when it’s ‘my own school’, I’m barely wanting to see that foolishness.
13465058, I try.. and your point about preseason rankings is exactly why
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jul-25-22 10:50 AM
but I still find myself mad as fuck over how blatantly corrupt it is..

Also pisses me off how the SEC teams can lose and get rewarded for it because “the SEC is so tough”

How can you get ahead when they keep giving 8 SEC teams top 25 rankings when 4 of them they have 3 losses?

the worst tho is when they have a team in the top 10 who ends up 7-6. Clearly that was more than a reach. I know its for early season drama but shit is rigged.

I haven't kept up on the Disney+ shows of late, and didn't see Strange or Thor in the theatre, but sa maverick twice. I still dig it, and have a vested interest in it, but Endgame was a fantastic capper that I don't have to do another 10 years to experience.

Plus, it's not gonna be the same. I told my son the first Avengers was a shared moment for nerds unlike anything I'd seen up to that point (Star Wars notwithstanding), but Thursday night/opening night Endgame showings were full on once in a lifetime experiences that, at my age, nothing is going to come close to it. If the next phase does it for him, I"m all for it. For me? I don't know that it can.
