not even just the whole commercialization...that's a whole issue in and of itself....
but...the sheer volume of "events" and "Things" being promoted, happening, going on, etc...
Maybe it's FOMO?
I don't know...
it's a lot though.

Both are huge commercial days.
Even memorial day, which is supposed to be a day of rememberence of the day, is just a big cookout weekend.
Not sure what folks had in mind when they got a federal holiday in the middle of the summer.

commemorative/educational. however, that's not how the US celebrates, especially in the summer.
I find it weird too because many pre-fed holiday celebrations include vendors selling their goodies. so this had to be expected on some level.

This country is always going to try to make money off a holiday
but WE should definitely party and make the most of it.
I remember a Juneteenth celebration in Philly and one in VA.. and maybe one in NYC but I can’t front, had no idea why it was a thing. Just thought it was another reason for a block party or a street festival.

My people are turning it into a reunion for our town. We used to have it in August and it fell off once the elders started to pass on.
Realized it made sense to come home for Juneteenth and support our local community center.
I’m excited.
