Or are we being trolled and just made to wait?

Um, history shows that at least one of those dudes isn't concerned with schedules.

13459361, Because it’s mos, talib and madlib
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue May-03-22 09:20 AM
Would you be surprised if they came out today and said they just started recording the album? Not me
13459362, Where is ImRickJamesBitch?!

13459364, he’s got your attention w the Black Star talk, time for a solo album nm

>Or are we being trolled and just made to wait?
13459365, Streaming just hit peak levels of bullshit
Posted by Mafamaticks, Tue May-03-22 09:28 AM
Now I gotta download a separate podcast app in order to listen to an album.
13459371, I never left the seven seas personally

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
13459385, Shit same here honestly
Posted by Mafamaticks, Tue May-03-22 10:25 AM
I still buy certain shit if it's convenient but this is some bullshit. Can't wait for this to hit SK
13459418, you could just not do it

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
13459366, Are you subscribed to their Luminary podcast network?
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Tue May-03-22 09:29 AM
I'm not, and have no intention to do so, but this is supposed to be exclusive to that platform.
13459369, RE: Are you subscribed to their Luminary podcast network?
Posted by Shakeet Lokh Em, Tue May-03-22 09:33 AM
I am. There's nothing up there but a bunch of podcasts I don't care about. Except Midnight Miracle lol
13459372, What are we going to do if this album is actually good?
Posted by Nopayne, Tue May-03-22 09:44 AM
???
13459374, Find YouTube links
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Tue May-03-22 09:48 AM
13459375, Honestly I hope they just put it on vinyl
Posted by Shakeet Lokh Em, Tue May-03-22 09:50 AM
So I can be done with this streaming circus.
13459414, Bunp it in the whip?
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue May-03-22 11:40 AM
13459450, I forgot that Kweli isn't really cancelled on here.
Posted by Nopayne, Tue May-03-22 01:23 PM
The people still on the boards and the Twitter folks really have gone down different paths these days.
13459524, We brought Black Star to VA way back in the day
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue May-03-22 09:11 PM
and Kweli was an asshole back then..

but that never stopped me from enjoying his music

shit aint that deep for me.

13459439, I mean it is well worth it to listen to the latest episode of midnight miracle
Posted by Beamer6178, Tue May-03-22 12:52 PM
the labor that is being exploited by spotify and other streaming platforms should make any Black Star fan eager to pay the subscription fee of $35 bucks annually if it means these brothers will get more dough for their efforts.

13459462, Mos and Kweli talked about this at length on Kweli's podcast
Posted by Shakeet Lokh Em, Tue May-03-22 02:46 PM
And I agreed with them 100%. My issue was the rollout. They have to know that people are gonna be clamoring for it at midnight, on the dot. Just be honest and say Tuesday at 1:00 pm EST. Because for 12 hours a lot of us were starting to feel hustled. It's a small thing in the grand scheme, especially since it's up now. But the release could have been done better. Way better.
13459442, Anyone got it yet?
Posted by Heinz, Tue May-03-22 12:58 PM
13459443, It's up on Luminary.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue May-03-22 12:59 PM
While that's definitely a different way to put out an album - I absolutely understand and think going outside the box is generally a good idea, even if it's inconvenient for people.

Anyway, Luminary is a good service worth paying for. Midnight Miracle alone makes the $35 a year worthwhile.
13459522, I’d be more likely to pay $35 for a damn CD
Posted by DJR, Tue May-03-22 08:56 PM
I don’t like hassles. I don’t care about most podcasts.

I haven’t liked an album either of them have made since 07-08.

The glory days still have me interested though, but give me one convenient option to hear this shit. Good God.
13459643, Honest question: do you have the means to play a CD?
Posted by Ryan M, Wed May-04-22 04:17 PM
I’m not saying physical media should be dead and I agree you SHOULD be able to purchase this album - but outside of vinyl I don’t see a big market for physical media anymore. Hell, I had to buy an app to put MP3s on my iPhone which is a thing it used to do seamlessly. I cant even play CDs in my car or on my computer anymore so I understand why this isn’t available physically quite yet
13459661, My car does have a CD player
Posted by DJR, Wed May-04-22 05:37 PM
Now, I think Tribe’s last album was the last CD I bought. So I’m definitely not looking to go that route.

But I’d rather have some form of physical(vinyl works too, though I listen to more music in my car than anywhere else) than download and subscribe to some janky service that I’ll never use again after listening to this album.
13459449, IDK. When you drop your first album in decades on Luminary...
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue May-03-22 01:21 PM
I don't think you have high expectations for it.

The production is really good. Yasiin and Talib sound good. I don't mind having paid $5 to give it a listen and keep access for a month. I wouldn't do it for every album or artist but in this case I'm good with it. I do hope it gets to all streaming sites eventually and that it helps get artists paid fairly.

I'm not really into podcasts so I doubt I will use the app for much more than this album but we will see.
13459472, While you have the Luminary APP, also check out
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue May-03-22 03:35 PM
The Midnight Miracle, The Telephone Stories (This is the investigation into Michael Jackson that changed my mind) and Omari Hardwick's podcast.

I'm good on Omari, I've listened to some albums that have him featured on tracks and I can't stand listening to him anymore lol I'm not sure what the appeal is and maybe this isn't fair but yeah.
13459480, LMAO…
Posted by Dstl1, Tue May-03-22 03:52 PM
I listen to Eric Roberson, a lot…he’s on a track on one of his albums and it’s one of my favorites. Seeing you say that made me legit LOL. I definitely get why it would be annoying to some. I haven’t purposely sought out other stuff with him on it, though.
13459491, Thanks. I need recommendations.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Tue May-03-22 04:57 PM
I'm gonna check out the app for the month and then bounce.
I honestly don't have time for the podcasts I subscribe to for free.
But I'm down to check stuff out.

You sent me down a rabbit hole mentioning the Michael Jackson podcast and now I'm intrigued.
13459518, Ehhhh... they coulda kept this

13459523, Mid.
Posted by Heinz, Tue May-03-22 09:05 PM
Pass.

If you are going to make it an exclusive do it up bigger. You had Madlib but not Gibbs or some features that would usher the new generation of listeners to want to listen to this album? Geez.

13459541, i fux with mos anyway but this is pretty damn sporty.... not mad.

13459548, Underwhelming

Really difficult for me to get past the subscribe to listen roll out
Really pissed me off
Been waiting 24 years…just to be hit with a pay wall
Who do they think their audience is?
Gen Zers aren’t checking for old man raps
…and my old a$$ don’t have time for the nonsense…

The album is good
Not great
Appreciate the analog drums, but nothing on here actually knocks
Sounds like it was recorded in a dorm room

I get it
Ownership
Value
Etc…
There’s better ways than a $35 subscription for a podcast

i heard it on youtube btw.
13459578, I didn't get that impression
Posted by Heinz, Wed May-04-22 10:03 AM
Mos especially has been making less polished sounding music for a while now and i think on purpose. You can trace that "feel" to like 3 albums ago

But it doesn't seem thought out and just a collection of songs they had accumulated
13459585, yeah it didnt strike me as particularly extra unpolished either...
Posted by mikediggz, Wed May-04-22 10:40 AM
i just thought it was funny that bro said it sounded like it was recorded in a dorm room when it appears that it kinda actually happened like that. album is pretty dope to me tho

13459582, I said elsewhere, Common, Mos, Talib can learn from Kanye & Jay...
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed May-04-22 10:27 AM
in that they can learn from making way more personal albums.

Like I know these guys been through a lot and seen a lot, but it doesn't come through in their albums. They are still doing a lot of Black Conscious Platitudes.

13459586, My first impressions are that it's a good, solid project
Posted by Shakeet Lokh Em, Wed May-04-22 10:50 AM
I have to keep listening to it to catch everything. The only issues I have is some of the mixing, especially with Mos' verses. Sometimes it sounds a little *too* distorted. That, and it feels like on some of these tracks Mos sounds less than excited to be rapping.

But that could just be an OKP being picky lol. Regardless I'm rockin this all summer....after I download it, cuz I'm not a fan of the Luminary UI.
13459589, Kendrick drops 5/13 and that’s about 10x more exciting

just hard for me to muster up enthusiasm for this given the barrier to entry and the lukewarm response it's seen. Sorry. Enjoy today's lunch!
13459657, I am digging this shit
Posted by Beamer6178, Wed May-04-22 05:02 PM
We are kidding ourselves to think it's 1998 again. This is good work though. And I'll be dead ass, Black on Both Sides took a few listens to grow on me solidly, now it's in my Top 10 list forever.

Like someone else said though, Madlib and Thought would be.......
