13459163, Anybody been to Vegas recently? Recommendations?
Posted by John Forte, Fri Apr-29-22 07:21 AM
Going out memorial day weekend, with a group of 4 to 6* middle-aged Black men. The numbers are important. First and foremost, that means we’re not going to a club. Even if we wanted to, nobody’s letting six niggas in with no women. Restaurant recommendation should be for places where we can reasonably get a table for six. Nobody’s trying to see any shows, but we almost certainly want to see some dancers, nahmean.

Two or three of us have been several times. The rest have either never been, or haven’t been in 20 years.

* Six people claim they’re going, but only four have purchased tickets.
13459166, this sounds like yalll dont need to go to vegas lol
Posted by tomjohn29, Fri Apr-29-22 07:28 AM
the group gives me more of a miami beach vibe from what you saying
13459167, Nah. We’re too old to deal with that kind of rowdiness

I love Miami, but not Miami Beach.

I haven’t been to planet 13, but we are definitely interested in that sort of offering. Good look.

13459178, Fremont Street!
Posted by shockvalue, Fri Apr-29-22 09:46 AM
(The old strip, with the screen thing overhead). My favorite part of Vegas, always must hit it at least once when I'm there.
13459183, Fremont street is great for gambling
Posted by John Forte, Fri Apr-29-22 10:20 AM
The strip has gotten out of control with the table minimum‘s. It’s hard to find even $25 blackjack these days. When I was last in Vegas, in 2019, the Fremont Street casinos still had the occasional five dollar table. That said, I got sucked into MGM’s loyalty program, and I don’t like gambling in places where I won’t get comps
13459186, Freemont is like a giant dive bar
Posted by Mynoriti, Fri Apr-29-22 11:12 AM
which is pretty much why I like it more than the strip. They're both packed with tourists but the strip has a douchier vibe of people trying to show out like they're influencers. Freemont's just people trying to have a good time and don't give a fuck how they look.

First time I went to Vegas 95ish they didn't have the roof yet.. it was just downtown Vegas. I think it looked waay better then. But it's always seemed to be a etter place to gamble imo

Though the most money I ever won at blackjack was the Westward Ho (rip) which was a little spot next to Circus Circus lol
13459201, Fremont vibe is so much better than the Strip
Posted by shockvalue, Fri Apr-29-22 01:20 PM
I like the roof...makes me feel like I'm in Fear and Loathing, even when I'm semi-sober (the soberest I'd be in Las Vegas lol).
13459209, for sure

>I like the roof...makes me feel like I'm in Fear and
>Loathing, even when I'm semi-sober (the soberest I'd be in Las
>Vegas lol).

lol fair enough.
part of it is i really love pics and clips of old vegas... i follow a few IG pages on it.
like, pre-corporate, mobbed up, sinatra style vegas.
I pretty much missed it, and pre-roof Downtown felt like the final gasp
I still seek out the oldest casinos when i go. last time i stayed at the freemont. Will probably try plaza next.

but 100% agreed on the vibe
13459191, I went for the first time a few months ago. Fremont street was great.

13459179, Went a few months ago with the wife but it was a work trip
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-29-22 09:56 AM
went to Fantasy. It was cheesy but the host was hilarious… and they had some Brown skin on the stage which is why we picked it.

Not sure how yall feel about Cirque De Sol but that O show was the shit!

Aria was off the chain but like you said.. 6 niggas aint getting into
any club. Yall need to find a group of women in line and saunter up with them or offer a drink.

Could always go in one at a time but more than likely one or 2 wont make it inside.

Tried to visit the art district but ran out of time. Heard it was a nice break from the strip.
13459182, We were thinking of hitting up Floyd’s strip club, because it has black dancers
Posted by John Forte, Fri Apr-29-22 10:15 AM
But it’s looking like it’s wildly expensive for no good reason.
13459189, that nigga insurance is expensive af
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-29-22 11:37 AM
13459198, I mean...what are you trying to do?
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Apr-29-22 12:49 PM
If you're trying to gamble - Vegas is not what it used to be. By that I mean table limits have gone up significantly over the last 3-4 years. Depending on where you're staying - because you're there on Memorial Day weekend, I'd expect blackjack limits to start at $25 and probably only a table or two of those if you're lucky. If you want cheap(er) gambling - would recommend either Fremont Street, which is very cool to hang out at or a locals place like Ellis Island which is not too far off the strip (walkable depending on where/when).

If you can swing it - would highly recommend either Carbone @ Aria or Prime @ Bellagio for dinner. For cheaper eats/lunchtime spots - definitely check out Block 16 @ Cosmopolitan. They've got a ton of great stuff - Lardo is a great sandwich place, Hattie B's is an incredible hot chicken spot, etc. In general, Cosmo is the casino I most enjoy hanging in - the drinks are great, there's a ton to do, and it's location mid strip can't be beat. Some other good spots to eat (of varying fanciness) - Mon Ami Gabi @ Paris (steaks and great brunch), China Poblano @ Cosmo, Best Friend @ Park MGM, Pizza Rock downtown, Peppermill (it's kitschy and kind of a Dennys mixed with a strip club but it's a solid 24 hour spot to soak up booze...or to drink more), SW Steakhouse @ Wynn, Ciprani @ Encore, Hash House a Go Go @ The Link (it's mostly known for breakfast all day and it is HUUUUGE portions), etc. Vegas is an amazing food town - but make reservations, for sure. Gone are the days of sporadic dinners.

If you're doing a pool day - well, holiday weekends are nuts. To guarantee something - book a day bed or cabana, but that is definitely going to set you back some money.

Fremont Street is 'old Vegas' aka downtown. It's got a ton of casinos that are very easy to pop in and out of, unlike the strip where everything is spaced pretty far apart even if it doesn't look like it. The new hotel there, Circa, is basically a strip casino downtown. It's really a fun spot to hang out at. The pool area there is amazing - it's essentially a huge sports book with a stadium-seating style pool. Guests are free, but I think non-hotel guests are like 20/person. Worth it if you want to catch a game - the screens are MASSIVE and it's a fun time.

There are dispensaries there if you're into that but don't be suckered by the fake ones on Fremont. They sell CBD products but won't tell you that. Go to a real one - even if it's a cab/Uber away.

Vegas is what you make of it - but make all the reservations you can, because worst case is you cancel them. 6 guys on a trip is a killer for a lot of places, especially last minute - so just make all the reservations and game plan as you're there. Try not to tie yourselves up TOO much if you're trying to drink and gamble - but if you're not - you're gonna need rez's everywhere probably.

I'm not a strip club person so no help there. Sorry.

13459202, Great post. And I forgot Hattie B's was in Vegas now.
Posted by shockvalue, Fri Apr-29-22 01:23 PM
That'll definitely be on my to-do list next time I'm there. Some of the best chicken I've ever had was at the original location in Nashville.
13459205, We stayed at the Cosmopolitan but everyone else on the shuttle
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-29-22 02:14 PM
got off at Aria.. lol.

Hattie B’s was hot af. Wish I got the Southern and just dipped my chicken in hot sauce.

Blie Ribbon was dope but it was a business dinner and everything taste better when free

13459206, I think I’m going to make a bunch of dinner reservations now
Posted by John Forte, Fri Apr-29-22 02:18 PM
If they don’t want to go, I can cancel them.
13459212, That's definitely the move.
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Apr-29-22 06:43 PM
Plus - you can always (well - USUALLY) cut down on the number of people for a reservation but upping it gets dicey.

I went in November. It's slowly making its way back to pre-pandemic Vegas.

Here are a few suggestions:

Top Golf at MGM Grand. If you've never been, it's a cool experience. It is more expensive than non-Vegas Top Golfs.

Stadium Swim at Circa. If you're not a guest of the hotel, I believe it costs something like $30 to enter. https://www.circalasvegas.com/stadium-swim/

Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas: https://www.brooklynbowl.com/las-vegas/las-vegas-bowling

Legacy Rooftop Lounge at Circa: https://www.circalasvegas.com/drink-dine/legacy-club/

Take an ATV/Dune Buggy ride in the desert. This place picks you up from the strip and shuttles you out to the location for rides. https://www.atvlasvegas.com/

Drais Night Club: https://draisgroup.com/las-vegas/nightclub/calendar-view/
13459284, I’m salty af we never went to Freemont St
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon May-02-22 10:28 AM
time was limited and I wasn’t really up to do too much after work but dammit.. we missed out on some fun

We stayed at Cosmopolitan so we kept it close.. Aria for gambling.. left quick cause limits were too high

aCeasar’s Palace for a show

Fantasy Burlesque which was actually funny as hell.. host had mad jokes. Dancers were meh.

but Cosmopolitan was good to us as far as food and gambling. I actually won money, lol.
13459298, I don’t love Freemont St
Posted by John Forte, Mon May-02-22 12:32 PM
The gambling limits are cheaper, but it takes forever to get drinks while you’re playing.
I think everyone should check it out at least once, and it’s definitely where I would go if I were a local, but typically I’ll only hit it up if I’m already downtown for a restaurant.
13459299, never been to Freemont so would’ve liked to experience it
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon May-02-22 12:57 PM
and my wife loves ziplines so we would’ve tried one of those.

She did go on a tour to burning rock or whatever that place is out there..

in her brand new crisp white nikes that I bought so they were orange by the time she returned.
