They hired Chris Rock to be edgy for the Oscars because people complained about the vanilla-ness of it. He was just doing what they asked. I dont think he's a hurtful person. Even Gervais isnt as "viscous" as his Globes hosting. They're just doing what was asked. "Hey make it super edgy."
