Then, suddenly, you have an about face and don't want to "argue".

Were that really the case, you never would have said anything to begin with.

We can discusss and still disagree, without it becoming an argument.

It's ok to bow out too, but don't pretend that you just don't have interest, because you did, until you came across a firm, reasonable counterpoint, and you're suddenly above it all.

People are just having fun. I don't see what, objectively, the actual issue is here.
