I mean.. that title is trash to the point I thought it was a parody of a Jordan Peele movie.

I just knew it was a Dorito’s commercial.
13453699, This is gold.

LMAO

The horse pulls up to the cloud, the rider pulls out a bag of Dorito's to calmly ride out the storm, before some narrator delivers some variation of the god-awful "chew it over with a twix" tagline.
13453694, "Nope!" would have been a better title
Posted by Adwhizz, Mon Feb-14-22 04:28 PM
I still like the title/trailer as is, but that I think an exclamation mark would help drive home the sentiment better

Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Feb-14-22 02:35 PM
13453686, I shouldn't be surprised by hate/backlash but here we are.
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Feb-14-22 03:21 PM
Jordan Peele makes some of the best trailers - you have no idea what the movie is about and all you know is it's creepy.

Love it. Will be there day 1.
13453692, is there a lot of hate/backlash for this?
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Feb-14-22 04:14 PM
I want to see it but I think the title is cheesy as hell.

also, I guess this will sound like hating but I’m starting to get a M.Night Shamalamalan vibe from his work.

Is that hating? not sure.. lol
13453741, I dunno.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Feb-15-22 12:24 PM
Ultimately saying “bad title” without ANY context is like people saying something about an album when the track listing comes out. Who knows what the title means yet. On its face, Get Out is a generic ass title too. *shrug*
13453746, No, it's like saying something about the title.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Feb-15-22 01:25 PM
>Ultimately saying “bad title” without ANY context is like
>people saying something about an album when the track listing
>comes out.

You think poking fun at the title is the same as saying something about the content within the movie itself?

Because those are two completely different things, and nobody is making fun of the movie itself. Because nobody has seen it. We're just having fun with the title and trailer.

It's not "hate" or "backlash" to joke at the title, or even the trailer.

>Who knows what the title means yet. On its face,
>Get Out is a generic ass title too. *shrug*

Nobody in here is doing anything other than having a small amount of fun at the title and a trailer that's extremely sparse on the details.

I don't see an ounce of hate or backlash there.

It's just good natured joking around about a movie title and trailer.
13453748, Okay.

13453749, You can't actually discuss the points being made?
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Feb-15-22 02:08 PM
or acknowledge a valid point?

that's some shit all stah would do, rather than admit that he was wrong about something.

13453750, I don't care to argue about this, dude.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Feb-15-22 02:09 PM
I still think it's kinda dumb. But it's fine for us to disagree on that.
13453751, It's a discussion- and you *did* want to have that discussion
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Feb-15-22 02:20 PM
At least until you got a firm counterpoint in response.

Then, suddenly, you have an about face and don't want to "argue".

Were that really the case, you never would have said anything to begin with.

We can discusss and still disagree, without it becoming an argument.

It's ok to bow out too, but don't pretend that you just don't have interest, because you did, until you came across a firm, reasonable counterpoint, and you're suddenly above it all.

People are just having fun. I don't see what, objectively, the actual issue is here.
13453753, None of this is that serious. Enjoy your day.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Feb-15-22 02:34 PM

Is not being thrilled by this trailer, hate and backlash?

13453702, Where is the backlash? Yall are reactionary AF

Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Feb-15-22 08:44 AM
begun, I think is a reference to the old joke about why Black People don't work for horror movies because as soon as black people saw some spooky shit in a horror movie, they would be like "Nope, I'm out".

And has been for awhile

“I noped out of that one” etc is relatively common on the internet.

So, “Nope” is just that, as legs said: nah, fuck that

I figured that was the point the second I saw the title months ago.

Saw this shit last night on the 8 story IMAX and I recommend seeing it in IMAX.

Peele made a black Spielberg summer blockbuster for adults. It's like Close Encounters and Jaws.

There's some things I don't like which we can get into once the movie opens, but I really itching to see it again.

I wish we could get more original blockbusters for adults
13464702, Oh word?
Posted by spades, Tue Jul-19-22 09:29 AM
Was it scary too?
13464769, More suspenseful than scary
Posted by bwood, Tue Jul-19-22 03:03 PM
Does have a few jump scares though.
13464705, I haven't seen it yet, but from the trailer...
Posted by PROMO, Tue Jul-19-22 09:36 AM
i thought it was actually Peele's take on Close Encounters with a twist.

Close Encounters is personally a Top 10 movie for me. I get emotional watching that shit and I don't even know why.

I'm definitely going to see this.
13465042, Nope, more like Nah.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Jul-25-22 07:15 AM
I don't think this was a good movie.

I didn't understand what any of the characters were doing or motivated them.

Keke was overacting and brother man was under acting.

Spoiler Alert:

It was the dumbest monster I've seen in a movie. Whose idea was it to have bed linens as a monster?

SFX wise I just don't think pulled certain things off. Like the monster wasn't scary and the people getting sucked up by the monster seemed ....goofy.

The monkey stuff was the coolest thing in the movie and couldn't really figure out why it was in the movie.

The cinematographer character was just strange. It's like all these characters were from different movies.

13465046, Yeah I pretty much agree with this. It wasn't that good.
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Jul-25-22 09:09 AM
And for the record, I also didn't think US was all that good either and that Peele is still riding off Get Out.

And really I'm not sure about Daniel Kaluuya as an actor. Has he played anything except an introverted somewhat stoic character?

The monkey stuff was definitely the most interesting part of the movie. And I would have really liked to see that SNL skit. I also thought that the cinematographer character didn't make sense, he was just convenient to the plot. Shit, even the dude Angel's involvement was a head scratcher.
13465050, pretty much...

13465076, eh...
Posted by tariqhu, Mon Jul-25-22 02:07 PM
it was a slow build up and anti-climactic. the 'monster' was bad. I liked Keke's character though. thought she was funny.

seemed like the guy that was the kid with the connection to the monkey thought, as an adult, he also had a connection with this new monster.

13465086, About Gordy…
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Jul-25-22 02:56 PM
It seemed to be mostly commentary on not respecting animals. Like Jupe thinks he has a connection, but also didn’t respect what was said elsewhere in the film - you’re not controlling the animal, you have an “agreement”. As a kid, he was a fellow actor with the monkey. But now he’s, essentially the “director” and didn’t REALLY understand what their agreemen was.

And it ate those people.
13465091, exactly.
Posted by tariqhu, Mon Jul-25-22 03:16 PM
like he thought he was in control of them, but clearly was not.
13465098, Spoiler
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Jul-25-22 05:52 PM
I wish we learned more "rules" about the animal.

All we got is don't look at them. It would have been nice to see other rules, like why did Jupe think he had a relationship with the alien?

Well -

I said this in the PTP thread but:

Jupe's "show" was new to an audience - but he'd been working at it for 6 months (which is when the Keith David character was killed) - and was how long the non-moving cloud was in the sky.

He'd been buying horses and sacrificing them to the monster, while "training" it for a show without a crowd. That's what the Daniel Kaluuya character was seeing in the distance (the lights and music) that the horses would run toward. Which is also why Jupe was cagey when pressed for a plan to buy the horses back ("yeaah....").

So this was the first time with an audience - he was passing out the flyers that it was a 'new' family show, and why the actress who was mauled by Gordy was there. It was essentially the premiere. And he didn't factor in that there were all these people there and that variable is mirrored by the first scene on set where the horse kicks up and acts violent on stage for the commercial. The people attending the show (or just on set doing their jobs) don't have that agreement with the animal - and so it just went nuts and attacked them.

As for why he thought he could control it - I think that's the point to all the monkey backstory. Now, did the monkey ACTUALLY have a connection with him? We don't know. Could have been that the bedsheet was actually shielding his eyes from him. But still - Jupe was misguided, clearly.
13465084, Total snoozefest, BUT i'm gonna give it a rewatch

there was definitely things i didn't like though.

seems like this is a pretty polarizing movie as far as people seem to love it or hate it.

gonna watch it again since the wife wants to watch it i'll see how i feel after round 2.

off first impressions i AM surprised to see how many people have this very high on their 2022 top movies lists. it's good (to me) but not sure it's like, "top movies of the year" good.
