13452903, What else are we watching in 2022
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Feb-01-22 11:24 AM
that other post is mad long.

wondering if the mods can make this official.

If not its cool

Finished Yellow jackets and Ozark.

Meed to find some more blackness on the screen.

Can’t wait for Snowfall and ATL even though I know Snowfall is headed in the wrong direction without John Singletary.
13452908, Watching Westworld and Station Eleven right now
Posted by mista k5, Tue Feb-01-22 12:20 PM
I'm into the second season of Westworld and I'm not too eager to keep watching it.

I'm loving Station Eleven. I hesitated watching it for a while but I think it's really good. I think I watched episode 7 last night.

Not sure what else to watch on HBO Max, just renewed another month. I think I'm going to cancel it and get Netflix next month.
13453044, Season 2 Westworld is watchable.
Posted by Triptych, Thu Feb-03-22 03:43 PM
The story starts to go off the rails, but the production value is so good I still enjoyed it.

Season 3 was trash - super complicated and not worth the effort IMO
13453051, I might just tap out
Posted by mista k5, Thu Feb-03-22 04:06 PM
There was enough that was interesting to keep watching season 1 but from the jump I felt like it wasn't something I really cared about.

I managed to watch all of Veep and I never enjoyed it so who knows.
13465945, I am rewatching 3 now so I can get to 4. Felt the same way about

13474754, I jumped back in for season 2 and found it better

13452913, The Sex Lives of College Girls is 8/10 - 9/10
Posted by double negative, Tue Feb-01-22 01:01 PM
the it took us forever to get through the debut episode because we had to keep pausing it to laugh, then rewinding the scene to laugh at it again.

Kimberly has some big ol' giant yamsayin's - me and wife kept saying "goddamn" as the season went on.
13452916, Servant, Ted Lasso & Station Eleven

Ted Lasso is good too..
Station Eleven is excellent.

13452925, Into the Night (Netflix); Servant (AppleTV); For All Mankind (AppleTV)
Posted by Airbreed, Tue Feb-01-22 03:25 PM
A post-apocalyptic show about a group of airline passengers trying to escape the sun by flying ahead of the sunrise. Otherwise, they'll end up being burned alive. A weird concept. But S1 had me locked in. S2 is much slower and some of the characters are beginning to annoy me. Netflix also ordered a lower amount of eps this time. Two more eps to go and i'll be able to move on to S4 of Ozark.

Also watching M. Night Shyamalan's, Servant on AppleTV (spooky show about a couple's support baby doll coming to life), and Ronald Moore's, For All Mankind (an alternate timeline of the US/Russian space race) on Apple TV.

13452926, Too much. I can't keep up right now
Posted by Mynoriti, Tue Feb-01-22 03:28 PM
I'm on Yellowstone S4, and I want to hit 1883 after that
I just (background) rewatched Ozark S3 in prep for S4.
Now watching Ozark S4
Power Book of Ghost
Righteous Gemstones
Book of Boba Fett
Euphoria

GOMORRAH S5 just dropped on HBO which is entirely my shit that i might have to drop everything to watch.

Then coming up got Snowfall, Atlanta, That Lakers series on HBO, That Tommy series following Power Book of Ghost, Top Boy is coming back..

and who knows whatever else will come up. There's not enough time lol
13468425, I have tried to watch Euphoria several times and just don't like it.

13452928, Raised By Wolves, Cloak and Dagger, Single Drunk Female
Posted by Hitokiri, Tue Feb-01-22 03:38 PM
One of the homies has been trying to get me to watch Raised By Wolves for a few weeks, just started it last night. Not sure what I think yet.

Started Cloak and Dagger a few weeks ago, was moving at a good pace, then got to a few episodes that really dragged and killed my momentum. Will try to slog through to finish the season.

Watched the first few episodes of Single Drunk Female over the weekend with a friend. It was surprisingly pretty good. I'm gonna keep going with that one.

I also finally finished the first season of The Expanse back in December... such a fucking chore to get through that. Took months and the only thing that kept me going was that people kept saying it gets really good. No, not really. I'm not sure I've got another season of that in me.

Love having shows on that I already know while I do other stuff - just the right level of distraction.
13453048, Yep, I do this mostly with The Office…

Finale of Book of Ghost was last night. It's hilarious how everyone on the show is betraying everyone. Really ridiculous. Really fun.

The Tommy joint. Force" started last night, and it's exactly what I expected. Safe to say your opinion on the show will absolutely rest on how you felt about Tommy on Power. Good times.

13464336, Malcolm In The Middle is my standard reccomendation
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Jul-13-22 06:15 PM
I’m in the minority in that I think all 7 seasons are absolutely worth watching.

There’s an overall dip in quality, to be sure, but IMO it’s nowhere near as steep as most tend to argue, and some of the best bits come in those later seasons.

But those S3-4 eps, particularly where Malcolm’s teacher is his nemesis, are fucking gold

The first few seasons of Francis stories are worthwhile on their own.

I really can’t say enough about the greatness of this show. IMO it’s the GOAT of the family dysfunction genre. It’s a bit of a treat when you view Bryan Cranston’s Hal as either a pre or post BB Walter White.

If you’ve wver watched Rick & Morty, Jerry is like a version of Hal.
Hal also plays similar notes to Daria’s dad, from Daria. He’s like the anti-Homer/Al/Peter

In one scene, one of the boys challenges dad to a fight. Dad says, ok, but if ny back goes out beating you up again, I’m gonna kick the crap out of you!

And Jane Kazmark’s Lois is an all-timer. She’s both the perfect villain and comic foil to the rest of the family. This could have easily been marketed as her show with no lies told.
13464433, "Did you just call my wife ... 'wide ride'?!!"
Posted by stravinskian, Thu Jul-14-22 12:50 PM

I still randomly remember that scene and that line, for no apparent reason other than that it was comedy perfection.

Yeah, Malcolm in the Middle was criminally ignored and way ahead of its time. I tried rewatching it a while ago but got distracted. Maybe I'll try again when Better Call Saul ends.
13467969, that was a great show. and i'm tripping now off your comparisons of the

watched the first episode. Will had a scholly to VCU. Awe man, he would’ve really blossomed
at VCU.

anyway.. I actually like this show way more than I expected.

They went dark skin with the Banks family. House is 2022 Bel
Air huge… I love it.

Since we all know the story its actually kinda cool the way they modernized it and made it “real” instead of straight comedy. I’m still laughing but there are a lot more “oh shits” and they actually curse on this show.

won’t spoil it but I’m a fan.

13457173, I doubt that I will return for season 2 of Bel Air, but I finished 1.

Love Is Blind is just crazy entertaining. Final episode of szn 2 drops this Friday.

Everybody already knows Abbott Elementary is the goods.

Raising Dion szn 2 is more after-school-special-ish than szn 1. Definitely made with the kids in mind. Good family tv.

Funny thing is I didn't understand why everyone was so annoyed at what Shake said about Shaina seemingly wanting to just continue on the show. Hell, I felt the same way. But then he started telling Sal's business after Sal said he wanted to keep it private, I got it. Shaina was just so full of shit in so many ways. Saying she felt manipulated by receivng the ring, getting defensive, etc. I felt like she deserved as much shit as Shake has gotten.

13458621, Was there ever a post about s1? I am just finishing s1.
Posted by SuiteLady, Mon Apr-25-22 03:22 PM
If Carlton didn’t think his sexuality would be an issue why was it so agonizing for him to tell her? He was so defensive and disrespectful to Diamond. Her response to his defensive and disrespectful behavior was not ideal but I cannot fault her for it.

When I first started watching this I didn’t know they would end up being like a reality show cohort like all the other reality shows but I like it.

Most of these people are ridiculous and I have more to say besides what I said above but I am pretending to work. If I can find the original post about s1 I can browse that.
13461883, I'm not sure. Let's discuss it here!

I totally agree with this. Not only did he not make sense, but he totally misused the show, bc he should've been telling people about his sexuality in the pod, so that he would find someone who completely accepted him for him from the start. That's the whole point of a setup like this. I understand you saying her response wasn't ideal, but it's much better than ones I've seen. She was actually willing to talk and try to understand. It wasn't ideal because she wasn't well-versed, but I thought it was about the best response she could've had being who she was, if that makes sense. Carlton was just obnoxious in every way imaginable, and I thought the show runners had ulterior motives for even choosing him, because apparently he'd been on some other reality show before and is full of drama everywhere.
Did you watch all the reunions from S1 as well? Carlton gets even more ridiculous.

Directed by Oliver Stone and narrated by Donald Sutherland and Whoopi Goldberg. This was really good. It goes back over things, now using the recently declassified documents that had been on lock, for so long. I knew a lot about this, as I've been borderline obsessed with it, since grade school. Holy shit, there's a lot of new stuff. The level of cover-up is nuts. I started a 7 day trial of Showtime, which I will absolutely be cancelling, to watch it. I think it might be on Amazon Prime, too.

edit, there is also a pair of Black guys from Louisiana that make moonshine too

I know most of the "legal encounters" are staged/scripted..but the rest of the show is entertaining.

Posted by Dstl1, Sun Mar-20-22 01:08 PM
I knew I was definitely going to get around to this…wife and I watched both of the Jack Reacher movies and we enjoyed them enough. I was listening to a podcast and dude was saying how the character was from books, first, which I didn’t know. He said a lot of people who read the books weren’t happy with the casting of Tom Cruise, because in the books he’s described as a really big dude. They certainly fixed that in this series, lol. Dude that plays Reacher is a big boy. It’s short at 8 episodes. I ran through the whole season, yesterday. There’s some ridiculous plot aspects, wild violent fight scenes and some terrible one liners…but, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read it’s been renewed for a second season.
13456914, That series was 80s action movies fun. A good time.

Season 1 was finished, so I started this morning and finished up by this afternoon. It’s got some very funny parts, but it wasn’t nonstop comedy. I know a couple of people who struggled with alcohol and there was a lot in the show that aligned with thing they went through. Good show. 13459460, Fun fact…

the main character in BCS, Bob Odenkirk, auditioned for the role of Michal Scott on The Office. It came down to he and Steve Carrell and the discussions were heated, but Steve won out.
13460775, yeah you really should watch bb.
Posted by Reeq, Wed May-18-22 11:12 PM
i dont know if its absolutely mandatory. you can prolly fill in a lot of blanks yourself on bcs or do some quick googling/youtubing for short summaries.

but its so much more enjoyable/meaningful if you witness the whole thing unfold. youll also appreciate how things/people develop on bcs into what they eventually are on bb.

i know its a lot to catch up on (plus the earlier seasons of bcs). but i think youd be robbed of the complete experience if you just jumped into bcs.

But seeing that as Lip’s epilogue 100% checks out as a believable path for him

That last season gave us one final tantalizing glimpse of Lip’s capacity, but it was so small, and they moved right past it in such a flippant way, that it almost felt like a “fuck you” to the character.

Posted by Reeq, Sun Jul-10-22 12:44 AM
came out like 2 years ago maybe.

still one of the best series that nobody has heard of. intense as hell.

amazon entertainment marketing is weird as shit.

their original stuff is just mixed in with all the random legacy shit. its hard to even separate whats free with prime and whats not.

their *best* original content is hardly promoted on the front video page (if ever). and their algorithm doesnt do a particularly good job of kicking it up to you.

meanwhile they will blow a ton of money promoting shit like that horrible al pacino nazi hunter series with commercials on network tv.

it makes no sense.
13464128, I do remember some folks talking about that show…
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Jul-10-22 01:16 PM
in one of the previous iterations of this post. You’re dead on about Amazon entertainment. I have no idea what they’re going for. Prime Video’s interface is a mess. Nothing is highlighted or prioritized well and the categories are super shitty. The only time I really go there is when I already have a show or movie in mind. Hulu, Netflix, HBO Max, even Peacock and Apple…all do a better job of directing a person, who would otherwise not be sure what they were looking for, towards content they would enjoy.

Excellent series overall, though it has some narrative issues.

It’s a bit on the nose, and highly relevant to our current sociopolitical climate- and not just because of the way women are treated.

I do need them to tighten the writing though, because there’s a lot that makes little sense, particularly one major choice at the end of season 4.

But the overall story is riveting, and Elizabeth Moss absolutely shines.

This show is fantastic

My homie said it reminds him of Atlanta, and I kind of agree.

I would say it's more interesting than entertaining, although it is very funny at times

The depth and relatable quality of all the characters and larger dialogue about native culture existing inside American culture, and confronting NDN stereotypes is all pretty unique to see on television.

My homie whose pops is from the Pala rez said the show is cool because it's very much consistent with what he sees as everyday shit, but that represents the culture accurately to other people.

Season one was good, season two I feel like fixes all the problems and improves on the storytelling and character development.
13466771, yeah, been on it from the start. it's fucking great

This show deserves way more props. My girl was salty because she said they got snubbed at the Emmys.

13466897, one of the few documentaries that actually changed my mind
Posted by Reeq, Sat Aug-20-22 03:50 PM
about something i witnessed in real life.

because i was for sure in the camp that believed he was in on the scam to elevate his image for his career, the heisman, etc.

that was the picture much of the media and the sports world was painting at the time. whether they wanna admit it or not. i see more than a few old tweets being pulled up to compare/contrast some media folks takes then vs now.

i specifically remember that dr phil episode where he said all of these linguistic specialists concluded there was very little chance the voice on the phone was the voice of the actual perpetrator who was literally confessing to doing it.

great job by the doc makers illuminating all of the facts and painting a more truthful picture of what happened.

it wont bring teos career back or erase the trauma that ruined such an important age/point in his life. but hopefully it can restore his credibility and provide some much needed closure to that painful chapter.
13466898, good shit..
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Aug-20-22 03:57 PM
with that said, did you feel from watching it...that he was free from it? Part of me feels like he's not really over it and maybe won't ever be. He has grown to be such a solid man, whereas when all that shit was happening, he was literally a kid. I also felt a certain amount of sympathy for Ronaiah. It must have been brutal to live in that culture and know you weren't being who you felt you were...and couldn't be.
13466899, i felt he was still grappling with it and it was still painful.
Posted by Reeq, Sat Aug-20-22 04:22 PM
you could tell during some really emotional responses he had to recounting parts of the story.

and its understandable because basically the whole country was against him in some way...either believing he was an idiot for getting catfished or an active accomplice...except the people that were close to him and that one chick at the draft going crazy when he got picked lol.

salute to him for being grounded in his genuine faith and not becoming bitter, anti-media, etc and not letting it change what type of person *he* is.

as far as ronaiah...ive seen the doc getting a bit of heat for i guess normalizing/platforming the villain. but i dont think it was their job to take/paint sides. if that were the case...the entire true crime genre would evaporate since you couldnt explore the views/motives of thieves, serial killers, etc.

their job was to give as much detail about the story as possible. and they did a great job of exposing the type of pathology and the inner workings of a person that led them to be dedicated to such an elaborate scheme to remain connected to someone they 'loved'. and yeah...i did have sympathy for him/her.

very well done. its been a good while since ive watched a truly compelling doc on netflix.

I saw this "movie guy" on tik tok who makes a lot of noise and who i generally agree with (aka usually has a reasonable outlook about movies) say this was in his Top 3 film he saw this year and he's seen 80 new releases, so far.

he said he was pissed he didn't watch it on the big screen.

he raved about the technical acheivements in filming and sound design and editing, but also the rawness, writing and acting.

i really couldn't agree more.

13472399, Barney Miller (Amazon Prime)
Posted by handle, Wed Nov-02-22 11:25 AM
Been binging it.

Seasons 1 through mid season 6 are absolutely hilarious, at least a couple of laugh out loud moments every episode.

It's smart, they talk about social issues that we still talk about today, and the relationships are realistic and evolve over time.

And the tribute show to Jack Soo was so well done I'm amazed it happened.

This is *my* Friends.

But, the writing in late seasons 6 has gotten dicey, we'll see if they come back or not.

Then Night Court binging starts, that show is basically Barney Miller but more crass and the first 6 seasons are also comedy gold!

First of all... when I first saw who played the girl... I was like GTFOH, cause she appeared 'spontaneously' on America's Got Talent (the wife is a fan I get dragged in) slightly before this show premiered. Shit felt like a set up, and she did sing Amazing Grace PRETTY WELL, but then to find out she was already a star of this show, I felt like guarantees she was a plant in the audience.

That petty shit aside, she is very good in this role, and Demian Bichir adds some weight to cast. Anika Noni Rose is highly watchable as the detective / neighbor / mother. The root and the quest for the cure for the vampiric disease is a great base to set up the character sub-narratives.

So far through the first 3 eps I can find very little to pick at, this shit is highly entertaining and a great spinoff of the 2008 movie.

13474734, Season 1 just ended, and I gotta say, it was insanely good

If so, I busted out the blu-rays for the first season of True Detective and watched all eight episodes this weekend because of a scene that popped up when I was browsing youtube. So glad I copped the first season when I did years ago.

It's amazing how well the show holds up. I'm not typing out any breaking news here, but this was true masterclass television on so many levels. Almost feels like the first season was lightning in a bottle since the second and third seasons were so much worse.
