We had a few extra already and our daughter's school is supposedly sending one every week for her weekly tests on Sunday (though they may send bi-weekly, as there's two tests per kit). I stashed away a few N95 masks while I could find them a few months ago before Omicron was a thing just in case. Bought some colorful KN95 masks for our daughter for school for safety flair.

Americans can now order another round of free COVID tests

The U.S. government website to order free, at-home coronavirus tests opened up for a second round of orders on Monday, the White House announced, allowing Americans to sign up for another four tests per household.

Already more than 270 million test kits have been shipped to households around the country as part of 68 million orders since the website launched on Jan. 18, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

The U.S. government has promised to purchase a total of one billion tests for free shipping around the country in the coming months, and the first round of tests became available on Jan. 18.

President Joe Biden shared a video message about the second round of tests on Twitter Monday afternoon.

“Today, I want you to know that if you’ve already ordered free tests, you can now order another round, shipped directly to your home and for free, so we’re prepared no matter what COVID-19 brings,” he said.

He encouraged Americans to go online to COVIDtests.gov to order.

Biden had announced in his State of the Union address last week that another round of free tests was coming.

The postal service said in a statement last week that it takes an average of 1.2 days to deliver a package of the free test kits once it enters the mailstream.

USPS has hired thousands of temporary postal workers to package and ship the kits from more than 40 annex locations around the country.

I ordered mine roughly the same day the link went up and received mine two weeks ago.

To be honest, I don't mind having these tests since they are better than having nothing, but I'd rather go to a city run facility here in NYC since these take home test results aren't factored into the numbers NYC uses to determine positivity percentages. Pretty unfortunate on multiple levels.

I don't know if it's like that for folks in other states and cities in the US.

Ordered the first day they were available. I got mine maybe two weeks later. Super quick. My wife's parents, in the same city, ordered there's the same day and it took a couple months.

If so, I wouldn't be surprised if this whole COVID test venture is a chore to larger cities to sift through, on top of the regular mail delivery duties they have to perform.

Unless i live right next to some delivery hub it makes no sense how sporadic the timeline is for different people. Hopefully he will be gone in the next year or so.

Were COVID-19 funds added to the recent military spending bill that passed recently?

The reason I ask because I remember the free tests stopping because funding ran out.

Hopefully the renewed funds can go towards cities opening up COVID testing facilities. I'd rather get testing done at a facilities that offers PCR testing that having to rely on a rapid result testing kit, but I suppose these days I have to take what I can get.

I didn't track the first round either, they just showed up 6 or 7 weeks later, so figured the 2nd round would be similar.
Just looked up emails and info is only there for the 1st one. Guess it never went thru so I'll just try again
