it's not the most common action as we both tend to make our on plates.

Thanksgiving plates are all about personal ratios. I like a lot of stuffing, for example. And while I know the foods my wife prefers - there’s no way I’d get it exactly right (nor would she for me) so unless she NEEDS me to, no - im not gonna volunteer that.

but yeah, what ryan said...if its a meal with multiple options, people wanna make their own plate.

Unless that person is under the age of 10.

Nobody knows how much cranberry sauce they want on that day. How much sweet potatoes. How many rolls.

as for how much food, I would ask what she wanted and take instructions on amounts

If you and yours are complete strangers, I suppose.

We both know exactly what to put and what not to put on that plate.

I refuse to cook. lol Which I don't think they want me cooking anyway. hahaha

But I'll gladly do clean up (before and after if we're hosting), store runs if needed, handle kids, entertain guest, etc. But I'm only in the kitchen when it's time for food.

She likes to make my plate (so I oblige lol) but there's been occasions where she was handling a few other things and I just made her a plate. And I ask what she wants (depending on venue and who cooked what food...those choices change).

But most of the time, she's ok with the division of duties.

I would. No problems on looking out for Mrs. Jimmy. This isn't one of those 'woman proposing to the man' type gender roles convos, is it?

In general, my wife will try to make my plate for me and I'll be on some old 'let me do it cuz I need to see what I'm gonna want, how much, and all of that'. For her, its kinda the same deal. She might not know what she wants for sure until she's making the plate, putting it together, and seeing how it all looks.

Im against chauvinism if that's the root of anyone's "no", especially if it comes with the expectation that the woman is supposed to fix the man's plate

if it’s my family definitely not. I’d never hear the end of it from the women or the men. We still do gender roles in our family for the most part

Her family, depends on the temperature of her family

We’re hosting? I mean she’s probably eating last anyway just based on how it typically goes for the woman of the house whenever hosting is involved.

Doing a Friendsgiving kind of thing? Yeah I don’t mind making her a plate.

I have baggage behind families telling other grown adults how their lives should run. one of the only non-negotiables in a relationship should be mutual respect

I'm Vegan. Sometimes she doesn't eat that way. Especially when folks are offering rare delicacies. Though, I do have her second guessing everyone's ability to prepare meats lol.

I fix her plate when it's NOT Thanksgiving.
