Appleton Estate 21 Year or Hampden Estate Single. If you want a great value Jamaican rum that has the distinctive ‘funk’, you can get a bottle of Smith and Cross really cheap. Or the Appleton 8 year. Best way I can describe the funk of aged Jamaican rum is like an overripe banana.

All of the above are great as sipping rums, but I love them in cocktails because the funkiness comes out in layers in drinks like a Hemingway daiquiri or a traditional Trader Vic style Mai Tai (completely different from the fruit juice heavy resort style Hawaiian mai tai.)
