I'm more familiar with quantitative methods, but I do know from some mixed-method evals I've participated in that direct quotations of what is shared by respondents in qualitative studies is extremely common.
Can't really speak more on the author's methods tho bc we don't know other than the bit shared in the writeup.
Also, the author never disclosed whether they identify as a woman btw. There are men who study feminism too lol
