to pretend they're super enlightened and evolved on every issue but we all know in the real world that's not the case...

If you grew up with a father, grandfathers or uncles in your life different opinions and stubbornness or "blind spots" about certain issues that don't meet your expectations shouldn't really be that disappointing to you if you're realistic IRL. Maybe this is a referendum on your own feelings.
